Nightmare Assault-Chapter 364: Disappearance
Chapter 364: Disappearance
With a hand on his chin, Fatty turned back to ask Jiang Cheng, who was still in the corridor, “Doctor, do you think there’s something wrong with Chen Yi and Chu Jiu?” In his earlier hypothesis, Jiang Cheng suspected that one or both of them had been replaced by ghosts.
“I don’t know.” Jiang Cheng gave a vague answer. He looked at Fatty. “At least for now, I don’t see any flaws. They both acted normally,” Jiang Cheng analysed. “If I were a ghost, I’d throw out fake clues to muddle the waters or at least try to lead us astray in the conversation. However, you saw that they didn’t do that. Plus, they even found evidence to support the findings of the other two groups. It’s hard to fool us like that.” Jiang Cheng shrugged. “So they should not be ghosts.”
Fatty became energised when he heard that. He stood straighter. Staying in the same building with ghosts was very stressful.
Jiang Cheng shook his head. “I said the possibility is low. It’s not impossible. Plus…” He looked at Fatty. The latter became nervous again. “Fatty.” Jiang Cheng lowered his voice, “If there’s a ghost among those two, we’ll be in big trouble.”
Then, Jiang Cheng turned and left. After all, the sky was dark. It was not safe in the corridor. Even after he closed the door, Fatty could not stop thinking about Chen Yi and Chu Jiu. They pounced at him with evil faces. Fatty shivered.
When he returned to his room, Jiang Cheng checked everything. This took a whole hour. Thankfully, nothing had changed compared to when he left. He entered the bedroom. He sat on the bed. Before him was the phone. The thing that happened during the day repeated in his mind. He frowned. A weak female voice that was laden with pain echoed in his mind… There was conflict, stress and searing twistedness.
“Save me…” That was what the ghost on the phone said.

TICK. TICK.
Chen Yi turned again. The ticking of the clock on the wall annoyed her. She couldn’t fall asleep. She wanted to sleep. Unlike her careful teammates, her understanding of the nightmare and ghosts was different.
In the day, she carefully went through everyone’s description of the ghosts. She realised something interesting. The ghosts in this mission would not appear silently. Before they showed up, they’d warn the travellers with strange noises… Like door knocking.
In terms of results, the three who met the ghosts the night before were still alive. If anything, it was Yu Lan, who had no encounter that died first. Therefore… She bravely predicted that the ghosts couldn’t kill people at night, or at least not inside the room. So, as long as she didn’t leave her room, she should be fine.
“In the end, I’m still too reckless.” She sighed as she looked at the ceiling. Earlier that morning, before the sun came up, when she heard Chu Jiu’s helpless cries for help, she couldn’t stop herself from opening the door and rushing out. She wanted to save as many people as possible. It was her professional habit.
Before this, there was a teammate who warned her that the nightmare was a dark and endless forest. In that place, those who raised the torch would not live long. Your kindness would be a target for those hiding in the dark. She appreciated her teammate’s advice and saw his perspective, but this was something that was ingrained in her. If possible, she was willing to be the person who raised the torch to chase away the night.
To her surprise, she saw her teammate again outside the door. The teammate admired her kindness that was untainted by the nightmare. It was rare. He invited her to join a group called the night guardians. In his description, the organisation was a group that maintain the rules in the nightmare. It was similar to her real-life job.
“I’m willing to be a watcher in the dark night so that more people can praise the dawn.” With her hands before her chest, she mumbled to herself. She patted the pillow, turned around and continued to sleep. She was not used to cotton pillows. She preferred harder pillows. It made her feel more concrete.
While she was half-asleep, she heard a sound. It felt illusory. Eventually… her eyes flew open. She heard knocking on the door. It was very soft. Plus, it disappeared once she tried to focus on it. But she could confirm that someone knocked on her door.
At the same time, she realised that the lights in her room had been extinguished. Only a bit of light flowed in through the window. She instantly sat up and looked around. The bedroom was connected to the living room. She could see the living room clearly from where she was. All the furniture only had a dark silhouette. It felt like they could come alive at any moment.
Chen Yi held her breath and frowned. She could sense a strange presence around her, hiding in the dark. She didn’t climb out of her bed because she realised the thing was very close to her. It felt like once she turned around, the thing would be close to her face. Chen Yi’s throat moved. She was frightened by the thought. Was it… behind her?
She quickly turned around, but there was only the headboard and a wall behind her. The strange thing was the feeling that someone was behind her didn’t disappear. If anything, it became more solid. She kept turning forward and back. However, nothing changed. It was always empty behind her.
She started to believe Jiang Cheng. The ghost… was there for her. It was just beside her but she couldn’t see it. Resisting the fear, she stuck her back close to the headboard. She pulled the phone over and quickly pressed a string of numbers.
After a few rings, the phone was connected.
“What happened?” Jiang Cheng’s voice was low, as if he also knew that things were not right with her side.
“It is here.” Chen Yi’s voice trembled. She looked around but she still couldn’t see anything. “I can feel that it is behind me, but I cannot find it.”
