“When you’re on the other side, be nice to Du Feng.” Jiang Cheng said as he kicked him, “He has lost his head. It’s inconvenient for him. You should help him.”

Wang Changguo cried.

When he felt that it was almost time, Jiang Cheng paused ot rest. Wang Changguo hugged Jiang Cheng’s leg. His snot flew everywhere. His arrogance was gone. “Mr Jiang, I was wrong!” Wang Changguo shivered. He didn’t even look at the elevator. He was worried that something inside might wave at him. “Please. Please… give me another chance!” Wang Changguo pleaded.

“Do you want a chance?” Jiang Cheng questioned.

“Yes!”

“Do you dare to talk back again?”

“No. I don’t dare anymore.” Wang Changguo was very sincere. “Mr Jiang, I’ll follow your orders in the future. Please forgive me this time!”

Jiang Cheng narrowed his eyes and scoffed. “You’ll follow my every order?!”

“Yes!”

“Then, why didn’t you enter the elevator as I told you to?” Jiang Cheng asked and delivered another kick. Hearing the commotion in the corridor, a door close to the elevator opened, and someone walked out. It was an old man. He looked thin and weak. He swayed as he walked. He wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses on his nose. He looked like a professor. The old man clearly wasn’t expecting this. He rushed to stop Jiang Cheng. “What are you doing? Kid,” The old man addressed Jiang Cheng, “Why… are you beating the man?”

When Wang Changguo saw the old man, his expression became sadder. Before he could cry, Jiang Cheng hissed darkly, “Hold back your tears!”

Wang Changguo was so scared that he stopped crying. Tears rolled in his eyes, but they didn’t dare to fall. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Seeing Wang Changguo like this, the old man walked forward to help him up. “Young man, we should rely on words. Look at him. He is not that young. Is it appropriate for you to treat him like this?” The elder warned furiously, “If you keep this up, I’ll have to call the hospital security!"

Jiang Cheng looked unfazed. He glanced at Wang Changguo and asked deliberately, “Did I hit you?”

Wang Changguo was stunned. So was the old man. Eventually, Wang Changguo shook his head and whispered, “No…”

The old man held his glasses. He glanced at Wang Changguo and Jiang Cheng. Question marks popped above his head. Even though he didn’t see it, he heard everything through the wall… Did he mishear everything? At this point, the old man asked Jiang Cheng severely, “What are you talking about? If you didn’t hit him, how do you explain the injuries on his body?”

“The elder is asking you a question.” Jiang Cheng reminded Wang Changguo calmly. “Hurry up… We still need to get on the elevator.”

Wang Changguo shuddered and instantly answered, “I accidentally fell!”

“You fell?” The old man frowned.

“That’s right.” Wang Changguo nodded. “It was in the stairwell. I was careless and tumbled down. And…” Wang Changguo pointed at Jiang Cheng. “It was this brother who saved me.” If not for the footprints on Wang Changguo’s white shirt, the old man might have believed him.

A short and fat old man walked out of the same room. Different from the elder who confronted Jiang Cheng, the other elder leaned on the door with notes stuck all over his face. He looked funny.

“Old guy.” The fat elder said, “What are you doing? We’re waiting for you!”

“I’ll be there in a minute,” The elder shouted.

Then, Jiang Cheng walked towards the old man. “Sir,” He began politely, “It looks like you’ve lived here for a while already.”

“I have,” The old man answered casually. According to Director Qi, strange sounds were heard at the hospital at night. They could ask the elders for more details. Jiang Cheng was very polite to the old man. It didn’t take long for them to get over the previous conflicts.

The old man told Jiang Cheng he was a regular at the hospital because his health was deteriorating. Thankfully, a few friends were there to accompany him. His friends were the other elders inside his room. They were probably playing cards.

As they conversed, the old man reached into his pocket. He searched around and licked his lips. Jiang Cheng noted this and walked to Wang Changguo. He found the pack of cigarettes and a lighter.

“It’s alright.” The old man’s eyes lit up when he saw the cigarettes, but he still politely declined Jiang Cheng's offer, “I can’t possibly trouble you!”

However, when Jiang Cheng delivered a cigarette, the old man instantly snatched it. Jiang Cheng offered to light it for the old man. The elder bent down and used his hands to cover the flame. After he took a nice hit, he felt completely different. Even Jiang Cheng looked more likeable to him.

“Kid, where are you going?” The old man asked between smokes.

“We want to head downstairs.”

The old man’s expression flashed with confusion, but he quickly covered it. “Going downstairs.” The old man mumbled. “Then, you should use the stairs. We’re on the second floor. Do some exercise.”

Jiang Cheng sighed. He glanced at Wang Changguo with love. “Sir, that’s my wish too, but take a look at him. My friend has innate brain damage. His nerves are damaged. He took only a few steps before tumbling down the stairs. If I insisted on taking the stairs, I’m afraid he’d fall to his death.”

The old man coughed for a long time. Eventually, he felt better. He sneaked a look at Wang Changguo. Wang Changguo gave him a look that said everything and nothing.

“Then, you can request aid from the caretakers.” The old man suggested, “The staff here is very responsible.”

“That’s unnecessary. We can just take the elevator!” Jiang Cheng moved to press the elevator button.

“Wait!”

Jiang Cheng turned around and realised the old man was staring at him strangely. He confirmed that the old man had to know something about the elevator or even the whole hospital.

Jiang Cheng appeared inquisitive and confused. “Sir,” He blinked his innocent eyes. “Do you… have something you wish to share?”
