’I approve wholeheartedly.’ Neveah’s wolf consented almost immediately, without even giving the idea a single moment ot thought.

And her words were said with such insistence and absoluteness that her voice rang through Neveah’s already aching skull from the aftereffects of Demevirld’s power,

It added to the sharp pangs of pain spreading through Neveah’s head, making Neveah even more restless and overwhelmed.

Neveah shook her head slightly, in an attempt to shake off her wolf’s influence on her mind.

’Veah, why exactly are you hesitating? Don’t you dare shut me out!’ Neveah’s wolf hissed, sensing Neveah’s intentions before Neveah had even realised them herself.

Neveah lifted her mind block at that exact moment, shutting her wolf off so she did not say anything more and a measure of silence was restored to Neveah’s mind.

Just a measure of it, Neveah’s thoughts were still a large enough mess even without her wolf’s influence.

King Jian’s proposal, what he called the third option sounded like a very terrifying experiment to Neveah.

Of course, there was a part of Neveah that did not want to think beyond the fact that the two men who meant the world to her were willing to be by her side.

But Neveah was never one to jump headfirst into anything, she had learnt the hard way to always consider the possible repercussions of her every action and every choice.

It was easy for King Jian to overlook all other considerations, he was King, he could always do as he pleased and no one dared question him.

It was easy for Xenon to not have second thoughts, Xenon was one who only ever did as he pleased, when had he cared for backlash?

If no one else would think about the fact that this two men were not ordinary men but the two greatest pillars of the Asvarian Stronghold, how could Neveah not?

’Putting my heart out there for one is daunting enough, but two? And what would this mean for the stronghold? Was this a solution or signing up for more trouble?’ Neveah thought in dismay.

"Veah... " Xenon began to say but Neveah cut him off before he could complete whatever he had to say.

These two men were so convincing, impossible to resist, Neveah could not even think clearly anymore with her thoughts and emotions moving faster than she was capable of comprehending.

"I... this is... just a lot for me to take in right now, I’m sorry." Neveah stuttered out,

Neveah was on her feet in the next moment and hurried away, not waiting to hear whatever else they had to say.

Her heart was beating at a very rapid rate and Neveah needed a moment away to catch her breath before she blacked out.

Neveah did not dare meet Xenon’s gaze as she hurried past him and back through the forest to retrieve her horse.

Neveah could feel her wolf’s presence in the back of her mind, slamming into her mind block and demanding release.

Neveah knew better, if she let her wolf out at this point, her wolf would force her to retrace her steps even if it meant seizing control from Neveah.

It took Neveah a short while to get to where she had left her horse and Neveah was glad for the fact that neither Xenon nor King Jian had followed her.

The moment Neveah sucked in a deep breath, her resistance weakened and her wolf slammed through her mind block, sending a sharp ache through Neveah’s skull.

Neveah lifted a hand to cradle her head, a quiet groan of pain escaping her.

’What exactly do you think you are doing? What happened to ’running away’ is not your forte?’ Neveah’s wolf confronted when Neveah finally gave in to her completely.

"Do I not get a moment to think away from them? I cannot even be sure if I am thinking this way because I want to or because they have gotten so deep into my head..." Neveah murmured with another quiet groan of pain.

’You know as well as I do Neveah that you are already completely entrapped in whatever web they have spun...do not delude yourself.’ Neveah’s wolf called her out.

Neveah bit down on her lip, she could not deny that every fiber of her being was demanding for her to go right back in the way she had come and tell them that she would not have it any other way.

That she would cherish both their hearts for the rest of her existence and would not fail their love, and that was precisely why Neveah was doing the exact opposite.

’Whenever things seem to be going so smoothly for us, something happens not long after, reminding us that the Creator never shows us his mercy.’

’Look what happened with Menarx, how invested did we get? What was the result of it all?’ Neveah reminded her wolf in a blank tone.

’The moment we marked Xenon, we made the choice to let go of the darkness of our past and give happiness another try.’ Neveah’s wolf countered.

Neveah could not believe her wolf was roping her into a decision she had made all on her own, completely independent of Neveah’s opinion or thoughts towards the matter.

"We?! Did you say a word to me before you did what you did? I think you meant, You...you marked Xenon without my consent." Neveah reminded her wolf.

’And what?! I only did what you wanted to do but was too cowardly to actually make the move. In the process, I saved him... for good!’ Neveah’s wolf defended her actions.

Neveah sucked in a deep breath, lifting a hand to rub her temples.

"Forgive me, I spoke out of turn...as much of a radical as you can be, we are of one mind..." Neveah apologized quietly.

"I just...we are happy here, are we not? King Jian’s place... Xenon’s place, is Dragon Keep. What becomes of the life we have built here? Are we truly to return...to a dragon keep once again?" Neveah asked the question that truly weighed on her heart.

Neveah’s wolf was quiet this time, she had no words to counter Neveah’s statement.
