Overprotected By My Tsundere CEO-Chapter 682 - 426: One Sentence Offends the Entire Class’s Parents
July, the sun was blazing, the weather was hot, and the sound of cicadas outside the teaching building was incessant.
The fan was running in the classroom, but the wind it stirred up was hot.
Nora Scott leaned against the wall, one arm resting on the desk, while the other hand fished out a pen from the desk hole, twirling it ceaselessly in her hand.
The parent-teacher meeting hadn’t started yet. There were students and parents in the classroom, a bit chaotic, but as they neared Nora, their voices unconsciously lowered. —This was the most basic respect for a beauty.
"Here, ice-cold."
Marcus Shaw walked in from the back door and placed two bottles of mineral water on the table, with fine beads of water clinging to the bottles.
The afternoon was stuffy and hot, Nora was sleepy and in low spirits, she responded with an "Oh," sounding a bit listless.
Marcus was about to leave, but then paused after turning around, looking down and asking her, "Miss Hughes invites us to her house for dinner tonight, are you coming?"
After a brief consideration, Nora said, "I have plans, not going."
"Okay."
Marcus left after finishing his sentence.
There was a holiday in the afternoon; the school was basically on break. However, Marcus and Oliver Scott had to prepare for the Mecha contest, so whether it was a holiday or not didn’t make much of a difference, as they had to stay behind to adjust the Mechas anyway.
The substitute homeroom teacher, Cleveland, entered and greeted the parents present, then promptly distributed the exam results.
Before coming, Nora had inquired that Marcus’s grades were outstanding – first in class, first in school, first in the city.
With the rustle of paper, the once quiet classroom was filled again with the discussions of parents.
"Where has the always-first Oliver Scott gone?"
"Did he fail the exam badly?"
"How could that be, I didn’t see his name on the first paper; no matter how bad he did, he shouldn’t be outside the top thirty in the class, right?"
"Who’s this Marcus Shaw in first place? The rankings of the class have changed quite a bit."
"Did Oliver Scott not take the exam?"
...
Two report cards fell into Nora’s hands.
Ernesto Scott was busy with business abroad and couldn’t come back, so Nora came to the parent-teacher meeting on behalf of Oliver and Marcus. Their seats, directly behind each other, were left empty in the end. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Holding one of the report cards, Nora glanced at Marcus’s first-place results, seeing the perfect score in science, her lips twitched, eyebrows raised, and she casually took a photo and sent it to Pedro Langley.
[Nora Scott]: [Picture]
[Nora Scott]: No sense of accomplishment.
After sending it, Nora thought of Oliver Scott, her eyes lit up a bit, and after exhaling, she flipped through the report card to find Oliver’s name on the last page.
Oliver Scott, last place.
Chinese: 0.
English: 0.
Math: 0.
Science: 0.
Total: 0.
???
Nora raised her eyes in surprise—wasn’t someone saying that Oliver participated in the exam? Even if he used his left hand to randomly fill in ABCD, he shouldn’t have ended up with a total score of zero, right?
So, Nora took another picture and sent it to Pedro Langley.
[Pedro Langley]: Now you can have a sense of accomplishment.
Nora: "..."
Praised because of Marcus, blamed because of Oliver, a compromise achieved, yet it was utterly uninteresting. With no waves or winds, this trip of hers was in vain.
Nora sighed.
However, the unexpected happened—
Cleveland immediately said, "All the parents seem very curious about student Oliver Scott. He hurt his hand and handed in a blank paper. However, he got all the additional questions in Science and Math correct, being the only student in the city to do so correctly. Since the additional questions aren’t included in the total score, they weren’t listed."
"..."
Nora’s eyelids lifted, feeling a strong premonition.
As expected, Cleveland turned his head, enthusiastically casting glances her way, his eyes shining brightly, stating directly that Nora was the sister of Marcus and Oliver, showering her with praises, which incited all the parents present to eagerly hope for Nora to deliver a speech and share some "top student parent" experiences.
Only armed with experiences of encouraging the two of them to eat, drink, and have fun, Nora, facing the many fervent gazes of the parents, was taken aback, feeling her emotions getting out of control, yet she still managed to suppress a bit of impatience from her expression.
Picking up the bottle of mineral water on the table, Nora twisted open the cap, gulped down a couple of mouthfuls, then tightened it back with fingers clenching it, lifted her eyebrows, adopting a low-key figure-of-authority demeanor, and said slowly, "No experience. Intelligence is innate, can’t help with that."
"..."
On the stage, Cleveland almost choked on his own spit.
The parents’ faces suddenly changed, from earnest anticipation to angry scowls. If it weren’t for Miss Scott’s good looks and her two top-student brothers backing her up, they would have already started cursing.
With just one sentence, she effortlessly offended all the parents in the classroom.
Yet Miss Scott seemed oblivious, crossing her legs and leaning back, appearing relaxed and at ease, without a trace of pressure.
—Who needs some elusive sense of achievement? Being proud at this moment is enough.
Cleveland, tears streaming down his face, forced a laugh and swiftly steered the conversation back on track, skipping over Marcus Shaw, Oliver Scott, and analyzing the students’ situations in the class one by one, finally drawing some attention away from those furious parents.
To Miss Scott, Cleveland’s words were like a lullaby. This temporary homeroom teacher, young and with a good temperament, spoke in a gentle tone that, in such a sweltering afternoon, made one drowsy.
Miss Scott chatted briefly with Pedro Langley and finally couldn’t hold on, laying down on the desk, turning her head to face the wall, and just slept.
Being Miss Scott’s little fan, coupled with her two outstanding brothers, Cleveland only feared she wasn’t sleeping comfortably, so he wouldn’t dare to disturb her? He even lowered his voice a bit more.
...
"Miss Scott?"
A gentle call woke Miss Scott from her slumber.
She squinted slightly, placed her hand on the back of her neck, and lightly massaged it. Then she slightly raised her head to look at Cleveland, who was bending over and calling her quietly, looking a bit uneasy.
Seeing her awake, Cleveland smiled at her, "The parent-teacher meeting is over, you can leave now."
"Oh."
Still hazy with sleepiness, Miss Scott sat up straight, leaned back, her eyes drooping, blankly staring into the desk drawer.
There weren’t many books, but it was stuffed full of exam papers, all jumbled together.
"By the way, Marcus Shaw and Oliver Scott are about to enter senior year, and the school has the whole senior class starting in August." Knowing Miss Scott wasn’t listening, Cleveland explained, "Also, Marcus Shaw and Oliver Scott probably haven’t returned, so remind them to take their summer vacation homework home."
"Summer vacation homework?"
She muttered these words slowly, her eyes landing on a pile of rolled-up exam papers stuffed in the desk drawer. Casually pulling them out, she ended up with a whole stack of papers.
Testing the thickness with her hand, she hissed under her breath, then lifted her eyelids slightly, "Two weeks of vacation, and so many papers?"
"..."
Always seeing parents complaining about "too little homework," it was rare to meet someone like Miss Scott who went against the grain, making Cleveland’s eyelid twitch as he momentarily didn’t know how to respond.
After hesitating for a while, he forced himself to say, "It’s actually not too bad, the school is easing up. The homework from the neighboring school is twice as much as ours, averaging out to eight sets of papers a day for half a month—"
"Sis."
"Sis."
At this moment, two voices came from the back door, alleviating Cleveland’s current awkwardness.
Cleveland breathed a sigh of relief.
As the evening approached, the sky outside was filled with evening glow, casting a red hue that streamed through the back door, elongating the silhouettes of the two young men.
Rubbing her temples, Miss Scott became a bit more awake, turned to look at the two, and lazily asked, "Not leaving yet?"
Oliver Scott smiled, relaxed and natural, and replied, "Soon. Came to pick up the exam papers."
Since his right hand was still not free, Oliver Scott’s belongings were carried by Marcus Shaw. Marcus Shaw walked over, took down his backpack and opened it, and Miss Scott handed over the stack of papers to him.
Marcus Shaw nonchalantly took them, and as he stuffed them into the backpack, the end held by Miss Scott let loose, and a few handwritten Sudoku sheets suddenly fell out, swaying gracefully to the ground as the evening breeze swept over.
Glancing sideward, his eyes shifted slightly, and he bent over to pick them up.
Miss Scott’s gaze followed, landing on the topmost paper, with neat and beautiful handwriting, clearly not from the bold and vigorous style of Marcus Shaw.
She raised an eyebrow.
The next moment, Marcus Shaw picked up the Sudoku sheets and, without blinking, stuffed them all back into the backpack.
From the back seat, Oliver Scott also retrieved his papers and handed them to Marcus Shaw, who also casually stuffed them into the backpack.
Looking at those crumpled papers, Miss Scott’s eyebrows slightly rose, and she sighed lightly, standing up, pretending not to have seen anything.
*
Bidding farewell to Cleveland under the teaching building.
There were not many people left on campus, students waiting for their parents; some were beaming with joy from compliments due to good grades, while others lowered their heads, being scolded for poor performance, and some were walking out together.
Miss Scott, Oliver Scott, and Marcus Shaw stood in the campus, walking side by side, forming a striking scene that drew numerous admiring glances.
Just like this, the attention lasted until the three reached the school gate.
"Let me know when you get home tonight." Miss Scott said casually, her gaze wandering to a car parked outside the school, she tilted her head slightly, asking the two, "Want some late-night snacks?"
"Yes!"
Oliver Scott replied resolutely.
Marcus Shaw gave Oliver Scott a sidelong glance.
With a light laugh, Miss Scott bid farewell to the two and walked towards the car that had been waiting for quite some time.
