Reborn as a Rich Woman in the Eighties-Chapter 59 - There is a Thief
59: Chapter 59: There is a Thief

Lin Qiu was also furious, “Lin Qiang is too harmful!
If he keeps this up, he’s definitely going to end up squatting behind bars and eating prison food!”
After the three of them vented their anger for a while, Lin Chun couldn’t help but instruct with concern, “Xiaoxia, from now on, you all need to be careful when you go out and about!”
“Mhm!
Got it!” Lin Xia had already made some plans in mind, but she knew her eldest brother wouldn’t agree with her approach, so she’d rather not share and feel uneasy about it.
With concern, she asked, “Big brother, is your upset stomach feeling any better?
Let me go get you some medicine!”
“It’s nothing serious!
I still have to go to work this afternoon.
I didn’t go to work this morning and didn’t even ask for leave!”
Lin Chun felt much better after having lunch there with Lin Xia and the others, carefully avoiding greasy food and only having some watery porridge, pickles, and boiled eggs before heading off to work.
Lin Dong, upon learning that his eldest brother got a stomachache from eating meat dumplings, couldn’t help but gloat to Lin Xia with amusement, “Big sis!
Our big brother’s stomach is really something, isn’t it?
I had so much greasy rice with meat this morning, and I’m totally fine!”
Lin Xia gave his head a pat, “Look at you, all pleased with yourself!”
The three of them really didn’t have any issues with upset stomachs.
It seemed like her big brother’s stomach was rather weak, Lin Xia thought, and remembered she needed to remind him to drink the Lingzhi-infused water.
After Lin Dong went off to school, Lin Xia and Xiaoqiu finished pickling the vegetables in the morning, and with nothing else pressing, they decided to take a nap.
Upon waking up from her nap, Lin Xia felt completely rested, and though her legs and feet were still a bit sore, her spirits were high.
While Xiaoqiu was still asleep, she slipped into Jade’s room to check on the drying status of the hazelnuts.
The result was truly a pleasant surprise; she hadn’t expected such a large batch to dry out so quickly in Jade’s room.
Just like last time, she used her consciousness to make them automatically dehusk, and soon enough, there were piles of husks and dehusked hazelnuts on the floor.
In Lin Xia’s room, there were only four sacks left, which she had scrounged from the storage room at home from last time.
She had no choice but to fill the four sacks first, thinking about where to get more sacks later on.
The quantity of hazelnuts, after dehusking, seemed to be even more than she had anticipated.
However, considering the man who sold seeds, it was unlikely he had the capacity to take the entire batch at once.
But she figured even if he took two sacks at a time, that would be fine.
Each delivery could earn her several dozen yuan—a business with only profits and no loses.
If she sold some more at the market, she would make a good sum with one trip.
Once the hazelnuts were ready and her stock sold out again, Lin Xia was itching to make another trip to the provincial city.
But the thought of sitting in a hard seat all night made her hesitant.
Yet, for the sake of earning money, she was determined to endure the hardship.
After all, she would at least have a seat when boarding the train here, and it would be even more torturous if she ended up without a ticket to sit.
After waking up, Xiaoqiu saw her big sister packing things and quickly asked, “Sis!
What are you up to?
You’re not thinking of going back to the provincial city so soon, are you?”
“Yes!
I’m taking the train tonight and will be back early the day after tomorrow!
Xiaoqiu, you all take care at home.”
Xiaoqiu was somewhat reluctant to see Lin Xia leave, “Sis!
Why don’t you rest for a couple more days before going?
Look at you, ever since you rushed back, you’ve been busy nonstop, selling goods and going up the mountain, and you only had one day to rest yesterday after making those greasy dumplings.
Your body can’t take this kind of strain!”
She really felt useless; once in the provincial city, she wouldn’t know her way around, or else she would’ve gladly taken her sister’s place in stocking up on goods.
Lin Xia sat on the edge of the kang, gently rubbing Xiaoqiu’s cheek, “Xiaoqiu, sis is fine!
Look, it’s getting cold now, and the scarves might not sell anymore out of the blue;”
“So I was thinking, while we can still sell, let’s hustle a few more times.
That way, when winter comes around, even if we can’t sell anything, the several of us will have money to spend!”
She definitely couldn’t tell Xiaoqiu about selling the hazelnuts; that had to be kept a secret.
“Sister!
I don’t want you to work so hard!
We can spend less and save more money!”
Lin Qiu’s eyes grew moist.
She truly felt utterly useless, unable to help with anything, always just a burden.
Lin Xia understood her sister’s sensitivity.
She laughed and said, “Silly girl!
Money isn’t just saved, it’s earned!
How much can you really scrape together by squeezing it out from between your teeth?
Besides, I’ve only been working hard lately.
Once you get a job and I go back to the factory, we’ll be able to live comfortably on our salaries…”
Convinced by Lin Xia’s words, Lin Qiu went to make pancakes with eggs for her to take along.
Lin Xia didn’t stop her, knowing that the train food was terrible, and she’d need to eat once she got off the train in the morning.
At home, it was okay, but outside, she’d need food coupons, and she didn’t have any of those.
Before leaving, Lin Xia left two yuan for Lin Qiu to use for household expenses, then reminded her to eat the leftover cooking oil residue with Lin Dong.
Whether they made buns or stir-fry, they shouldn’t let it sit too long and spoil.
Most importantly, Lin Xia was still somewhat worried about Lin Qiang causing trouble.
She told Lin Qiu and Lin Dong to be careful at home, lock the doors and windows at night, and not to go out too late.
Having given her family instructions, Lin Xia rode her bicycle with Lin Qiu to the train station.
Once there, she bought a ticket to wait for her train.
Lin Qiu wanted to wait until she boarded the train before leaving, but Lin Xia, using the excuse that she should start making dinner early, persuaded her to go.
Lin Qiu had no choice but to cycle back on her own.
On the train again, Lin Xia felt a much calmer sense of mind.
With plenty of money in her pocket for buying goods, the prospect of selling hazelnuts in the market, and a chance to see if the sunflower seed vendour would buy some too, she boarded lightly without any psychological burden.
Some things seem different when you approach them with optimism; the feedback you get can vary accordingly.
Having slept during the day, Lin Xia wasn’t tired that night.
She sat in a window seat for two, watching as the night scenery flew past outside the window.
It wasn’t like the future, with various lights everywhere, so there was only so much she could see in the darkness—the occasional reflection of her own face against the window as well.
Lin Xia felt she had changed greatly from the sallow and emaciated person she had been when she had first returned.
Her gaze had become brighter and more focused, and her expressions reflected newfound confidence.
She believed her future would be even better!
A fire burned within her; she wanted not only to live well herself but also to ensure the happiness of her brothers and sister.
The road ahead wouldn’t be without its bumps and challenges, but she was certain she could overcome each and every obstacle.
In the middle of the night, Lin Xia, like the others in the carriage, dozed off with her head resting on the little table.
In a half-asleep state, she heard cries in the carriage—a thief!
Money stolen!
Lin Xia was instantly wide awake, and she noticed that many others jolted awake as well.
Everyone either sat up or stood to look towards the source of the commotion.
An old man dressed like a farmer stood not far ahead in the aisle, lamenting to the others.
He said he had hidden his money carefully in the inner pocket of his jacket, holding his arms tightly around it to be cautious.
Who would’ve thought that just dozing off for a moment would result in the money from that pocket disappearing?
It was money his family had saved up for a long time, money they needed for an emergency.
Since Lin Xia had left her money with Jade, she wasn’t worried about losing it.
However, she still instinctively glanced at her luggage on the rack.
Inside the big bag were the pancakes and eggs that Xiaoqiu had made for her.
At that time, people were still pretty honest and compassionate.
Everyone started chipping in—two mao from one person, three mao from another, five mao from someone else—to help the old man out.
