Reborn as a Rich Woman in the Eighties-Chapter 60 - Lu Zheng
60: Chapter 60 Lu Zheng
60 -60 Lu Zheng
Lin Xia thought for a moment, and then took out fifty cents from the change in her coat pocket to give to the person organizing a collection to help out.
When you are out and about, you help where you can.
However, she was even more aware of the principle of not flashing your wealth in public, so even though she wanted to give the old man one or two yuan, she dared not to do so.
Because of the incident with the thief, no one dared to sleep too soundly afterwards, who knew if a thief would strike while they slept.
The train had arrived at a small station and would stop for ten minutes.
Lin Xia had wanted to get off to get some fresh air, but seeing that the person across from her stayed put, she decided to endure it and stay put as well.
At this point, several passengers boarded, sitting in whatever seats were still available.
One of them, a tall and strapping man, sat on the outer side of the three-seat row next to Lin Xia.
He sat upright, radiating a powerful energy.
Lin Xia glanced over subconsciously and saw that the man was in his twenties, with a dark complexion, thick brows, and deep-set eyes framing a tall nose; he was very handsome.
He noticed Lin Xia’s gaze, and his eyes shot over sharply, the sternness in his expression frightened Lin Xia so much that she dared not look again and quickly turned her gaze out the window.
But she could still see the man from the reflection in the window.
Lin Xia didn’t want him to think that she was particularly interested in him,
so she turned her eyes back down and fiddled with her clothes, her mind pondering how to deliver the hazelnuts to the sunflower seed seller after she arrived in the provincial capital.
However, as time passed, Lin Xia’s eyelids started to fight against each other, after all, the latter half of the night is when people are most sleepy.
Finally, she could not resist the overwhelming urge to sleep and leaned her head against the back of the hard seat and drifted off.
When she woke up again, it was already early morning, with only one more hour to the provincial capital.
She looked around in confusion to see where she was, the seat beside her empty, probably because the occupant had gotten off or gone to the restroom.
Lin Xia shook her numb feet and saw that the man was still there.
She didn’t pay much attention to him as she was about to take off her shoes to climb up to the hard seat to reach her big bag, and then she would go to the sink to wash up.
Someone behind her beat her to it, with a voice cool and detached, “I’ll help you!”
Lin Xia softly said her thanks, thinking that no matter how indifferent his attitude might be, he was still a kind-hearted good person.
After she finished lining up to take care of her personal hygiene, she returned to her seat and took out an iron teacup from her bag to fill with hot water to drink.
In the morning, she had decided to take advantage of the hot water to eat her fill right on the train.
By afternoon, she’d see where she could eat, and if that wouldn’t work out, she still had pancakes and eggs – there was no way she’d go hungry.
The man saw Lin Xia taking out food from her bag, glanced at it indifferently, and then continued looking out the window.
Lin Xia blinked her eyes, thinking that maybe in the future she might offer the man who just helped her a pancake, but right now, it was better not to be so presumptuous.
Having eaten her fill and sipping on hot water, Lin Xia felt that this train journey wasn’t as difficult as the last time.
When it was almost time to arrive, she prepared to get off following the flow of people.
The man was also getting off at this stop, following behind Lin Xia.
The two of them silently didn’t speak to each other, standing at the junction between train cars, waiting for the train to stop at the station.
When the train finally stopped, there were people bustling to get out on Lin Xia’s right, eager to leave.
She didn’t want to jostle with the crowd, so she fell back by two steps.
By the time she disembarked, the train had already been stopped for quite a while.
The moment she stood on the platform, she felt the fresh air fill her nostrils, a different scent than the suffocating, unpleasant smell inside the train, and it perked up her spirit.
Lin Xia took a deep breath of the fresh air and then discerned the direction to exit the station and started walking.
Suddenly, Lin Xia saw two elegantly dressed middle-aged women approaching, and she recognized one of them!
This woman was none other than Meifang, the one she had sold the Lingzhi to!
What was she doing here?
Lin Xia’s heart skipped a beat; she never expected to see the very person she had been avoiding the moment she stepped off the train.
Thankfully, Meifang and another middle-aged woman were both looking towards the carriage, probably searching for someone, so they hadn’t noticed her.
Lin Xia quickly lowered her head and moved to the right, quickening her pace as if she hadn’t seen anything.
It wasn’t until she had walked some distance that she dared to cautiously look back.
She saw the man from the train talking with Meifang and the others.
Fearing being discovered, Lin Xia quickly turned her head and hurried away.
Yet, she couldn’t help but mutter to herself that Meifang actually knew that man with the stern face.
The world really is small!
The man talking with Meifang sensed the panicked figure of the young girl on the train and couldn’t help but take another glance.
“Son!
What are you looking at?” The woman with Meifang followed his gaze.
Meifang, too, turned around curiously, “Yeah, Lu Zheng!
Is someone else coming to pick you up?”
The man withdrew his gaze, “Nothing, Mom, Aunt!
How is Grandpa recovering?”
“Pretty well!
Thankfully your aunt found Lingzhi!
And with the attentive care of your Grandpa Liao…”
“Mhm!
Let’s walk and talk about it!”
“Okay!”
Meanwhile, Lin Xia left the train station and took a bus.
She was worried that Meifang might notice her and make trouble for her.
Nervously boarding a bus that came along, Lin Xia finally felt a weight lifted off her chest.
She could never have imagined running into Meifang again, let alone sharing a train with someone she knew.
But as her anxiety subsided, she began to think she was making a mountain out of a molehill; maybe Meifang had completely forgotten what she looked like.
Lin Xia got off at a random stop and asked for directions to the market where she sold hazelnuts the last time.
Even though she might be able to sell a good amount to the same sunflower seed seller as before, the stockpiles in Jade’s room were plentiful.
Having come all this way to the provincial city, she had to sell as much as possible—every bit counted.
Once she found the market, Lin Xia went to the bathroom just as she had the last time.
She carefully took out a sack of hazelnuts and a plastic sheet.
Smirking, she found some empty space and began to sell the hazelnuts.
It had just been a few days since her last visit here to sell hazelnuts.
Today, as soon as she laid out the plastic sheet and divided the hazelnuts into several small piles, people began asking for the price.
Lin Xia continued to sell as she did last time, fifty cents for a small pile, letting customers taste them before buying.
Hearing that they could try for free, a small crowd quickly gathered around her stall, grabbing handfuls to taste.
Fortunately, among the crowd was a middle-aged woman who had bought from her before.
Although she grabbed a handful, she said to Lin Xia with a smile, “Young girl, these hazelnuts are just as you said, they are fragrant and nutritious when roasted!
Both the kids and adults at home love them!
I’ll take two piles!”
Seeing Lin Xia had nothing to package the nuts in, she squatted down and said, “Then I’ll just bag them myself!”
“Sure thing, ma’am!” Lin Xia responded crisply and even gave her an extra large handful.
People love a bustling scene when shopping; seeing someone purchase immediately and hearing how tasty they were at home, they started to buy as well.
Lin Xia was busy portioning out the nuts and collecting money, ensuring each person got a little extra.
Even when a stingy customer insisted on more, she was not miserly.
She managed to keep everyone around her stall happy, and the crowd continued to gather.
