Chapter 904: The adventures of Ecaterina (1/2)
Early in the morning, a unique scenery could be seen in the streets of the capital city, attracting the attention of office workers who were on their way to work, and students who were on their way to schools and colleges. A pretty young girl, who looks like a porcelain doll with milky white skin, golden yellow hair, and deep blue eyes, was seen walking around the streets of the capital as if she were a little landlord patrolling her territory. Next to this young girl, a burly Russian man, whose body size resembled that of a bear, followed the little beauty like a bodyguard.
Who could this young girl be other than Ekaterina Wilhelmina Petrovna Romanov, the princess of the Tsarist Russian Empire, and the eldest daughter of Grand Duke Peter Alexandrovitch Romanov?
Ekaterina had only just started to walk on the streets, but she couldn’t help but remember how hard it was for her to convince her father to let her come to the Bharatiya Empire. Even thinking about it makes her feel sad, but it’s all in the past; she was finally here in the capital of the Akhand Bharatiya Empire. Ever since Ekaterina could understand the world, she had heard about the legends and various stories of the Bharatiya Empire told by her father. She was extremely curious about this legendary Eastern Empire, which was called as the land of miracles and magic
Since little, she had asked her father to take her to the Bharatiya Empire whenever he was about to set off, but unfortunately, every time she got the same reply, "Dear Ekaterina, travelling through the sea is very dangerous, and you have to be obedient and complete your studies." Hearing the reply, she would be annoyed and angry, stomping her feet and barricading herself in their room for a few days. But sadly, despite her protests, her father would never listen to her. There was nothing she could do, although she knew that her father gave her much more freedom than her cousins and even allowed her to study all the knowledge just like any prince would, she also knew that allowing her to gain knowledge and not constraining herself to extremely tiring noble lady etiquette practices was the most he could do.
Ekaterina was already grateful that her father had not rushed to marry her off like her uncle Dimitri, who had quickly arranged engagements for her cousins. They were now spending the last four years of their youth in Moscow. Although she often felt frustrated by her father’s repeated refusals of her requests, she could never bring herself to be truly upset with him. Whenever he returned from his long trips, sometimes lasting months, she would always greet him with a smile and a warm welcome.
Still, she had nearly given up pleading with him. Disappointment and a quiet sadness had settled in, as she imagined she would never get the chance to visit the magical kingdom in the East. But nearly four months ago, something unexpected happened. Her father was preparing to leave for a journey to the Bharatiya Empire. As always, she pleaded with all her heart to go with him. This time, however, he didn’t reject her immediately. Instead, he paused, appearing deep in thought. And then, after what felt like a decision had been made, he spoke the words that changed everything.
"I guess it’s time for me to introduce my family to Vijay. Moscow should be getting colder very soon."
Ekaterina didn’t understand what getting cold very soon meant since it was still autumn in Moscow, but she did not think of questioning her father because she was too overjoyed.
In such a way, Ekaterina, along with her whole family, set off from Moscow four monthes ago, and now, after nearly four months of travel, she was finally here, the land she was extremely curious about, which, due to constant rejections to visit by her father, had almost turned into her obsession.
Setting foot in the Bharatiya Empire surprised her quite a bit. The weather was very warm, completely different from back home. The people here looked very different, she knew that the Bharatiyas were much more dark-skinned than them, some even darker like those slaves. But looking at their appearances firsthand, she was shocked. Their skin colour was really like that of the slaves, but they were completely different in every way. Compared to the slaves, they dressed in extremely vibrant colours, they carried themselves with pride, and they treated everyone as if they were their equal. Not to mention, some of them were extremely knowledgeable. She had her first experience of someone treating her like any other girl and not a princess.
She didn’t know how she felt about it, she liked being respected by her servants and other nobles as well as their kids, but being treated like just another Russian tourist was something new.
Ekaterina and her family reached the Royal Capital yesterday night around 6:00 PM, which made her a little aggrieved because she couldn’t explore the city immediately, but she was surprised because her father had unknowingly built a big palace in the Bharatiya Empire’s capital, its size not smaller than the one in Moscow.
When she got to her family palace, she was mesmerised because even though it was night, the palace was lit up extremely brightly. She knew the existence of the kerosene lamps, a thing invented by a Bharatiya Inventor, but there weren’t too many of them. However, even if she roughly counted, there were over 200 kerosene lamps lit up at the same time, lighting up the whole palace and every room within.
Getting into the palace, she saw many unique things she had never seen before, like the three bladed metal object that was attached to the roof, which could spin at high speeds, blowing cool air when the servants spun it from the outside, flowing water right into the kitchen and bathroom available all the time, which apparently comes from the water tank a few hundred meters away, a massive wooden clock within which a metal object moved from left to right, looking magnificent as it sat in the main hall, and many other small quirky and interesting gadgets.
She slept with anticipation and excitement, looking forward to the next day yesterday.
And that day was finally here, her father had gone to meet with the cabinet ministers and familiar people in the Bharatiya Empire, while she was left alone with Igor, who was accompanying her to act as both her bodyguard and her guide.
When Ekaterina was allowed to roam the streets of the capital on her own, with only a single bodyguard, she was surprised because she was usually followed by at least 4 to 5 royal guards, but she did not think much of it as she was mostly happy being let go.
Getting so much freedom all of a sudden, she felt like she wanted to experience what normal citizens of the Bharatiya Empire would experience. She immediately put her thoughts into action. She walked on the pedestrian path since early in the morning, going on a sightseeing mission, looking at the neat roads, the kerosene street lamps, exquisite marble sculptures that could be seen here and there, and the unique buildings, but that was it. She felt like she had walked in vain, not seeing any interesting things.
The only thing that barely piqued her curiosity was a beautiful woman who came to talk to her and asked if she could write a novel based on her image. Ekaterina was immediately confused about this, but after the lady explained, she understood that the lady wanted to write a story about a foreigner coming to the Bharatiya Empire for the first time, and the lady felt like Ekaterina was the best image for the main character in her story, so she asked whether she could use some of the details of Ekaterina in her story.
Ekaterina was very surprised when she understood what was going on. She completely had no clue how much attention she had attracted, even to the point of inspiring a novelist to write a novel based on her image. But still, at the end, she felt that being a main character in a novel was a very exciting thing, so she agreed on the condition that her name or any symbols and insignias related to her would not be mentioned. She might be a little naughty, but not irresponsible. She knew the name of her and her family could not be thrown around so simply.
Standing at the end of the street, she looked around, not knowing what to do next. Suddenly, Igor, who was following from behind and had been silent until now, spoke out,
"Where would you like to visit next, Your Highness?"
"Would you like to visit the shopping street?"
Ekaterina suddenly remembered that it was not the first time for Igor to come to the Bharatiya Empire. With this realisation, she glared at the bodyguard with a hint of blame in her eyes, but in the end, she did not say anything; instead, she shook her head, "No, let’s go to the civilian area. I heard Father brag many times that even the civilian areas in the Bharatiya Empire are better than Moscow streets." "I want to see how true his words are."
Igor was prepared to get scolded, but it seemed like the princess was not an unreasonable person, very much like her father. He followed the ideas of the princess without hesitation.
"Igor, tell me, the streets we have been roaming since morning, are they known for anything?"
"Umm!" "They are, Your Highness, but they are known for offices of various businesses. The street is usually travelled by office workers or school and college students. There are a few of them behind us, a few kilometres away."
"Tsk!"
Ekaterina felt annoyed once again. She scolded herself for forgetting that she was with a guide all along.
Finally setting off towards the central area of the city, the gigantic clock tower that became visible caught her attention. Looking at its size, she covered her mouth in shock. "Igor, that building looks like a clock, does it work?", she asked, her face showing amazement.
"It does, your Highness, and it rings the bell every hour. Shortly, it will be 9:00 o’clock, the first bell of the day should ring any moment now."
Dong!
A loud sound of a bell echoed throughout the vicinity of the clock tower. Hearing this sound, Ekaterina’s mouth was agape. Getting to know the time in Moscow was so hard, but for the Bharatiyas, even normal civilians could know it without much effort.
She had no choice but to admit that things were much more developed in the Bharatiya Empire than they were back in Moscow.
