Return With the Billionaire Baby Daddy-Chapter 148: disappointment and injustice
Already at the police station, Damian invited Valerie to enter the visitation room and sit there, waiting for Samuel who was being picked up by the police.
"I didn’t expect Fanny to have an accident," murmured Valerie, haunted by Fanny’s severe condition.
"But I think she was preparing to flee," Damian replied anxiously. "She was wearing different clothes from before she left our mansion," he continued.
"Could it be her?"
"Then who else? Her actions are very suspicious... We just need to wait for the fingerprint examination results on those toy beads."
Valerie sighed heavily, then her attention shifted to Samuel who came with a doctor. His skinny figure in oversized blue clothes, long hair, and thick beard truly astonished her, almost unrecognizable.
"You look so bad," Damian said, looking at Samuel who immediately sat across from him.
Samuel remained silent.
Valerie was still stunned, not expecting Samuel to be so broken just because he was obsessed with her.
"If you didn’t like me, you wouldn’t be like this," she said regretfully.
"It’s okay," Samuel whispered without daring to look at Valerie.
"You should understand, that you can’t get what you want by deceitful, dirty means, or even through crime!" Damian exclaimed, clenching his fists. "If this weren’t in the police station, I would kill you with my bare hands... I would beat you mercilessly!"
"On what basis do you want to do that to me?" Samuel asked with an ambitious gaze. "Do you think you’re the best and the most right here?"
"Of course!" Damian asserted, furrowing his brows, astonished by Samuel’s attitude, who hadn’t regretted his actions. "You’ve caused us too much trouble all this time. You caused us to fail to get married and kept us apart for 2 years, and much more. That could all be very strong reasons for my anger towards you right now! You are truly unworthy to be called my friend anymore!" he continued angrily, about to hit Samuel but Valerie quickly embraced his arm.
"Calm down!" Valerie whispered.
Damian panted, his eyes filled with emotion, glaring at Samuel who just gave him a faint smile.
"What I did was indeed wrong, but at least it exposed your true colors," Samuel said casually then looked at Valerie. "If that night I didn’t ask Clara to trap me, to tempt you, you wouldn’t have been punished by being far away from Valerie... Maybe your marriage would have been fine but she wouldn’t know that you’re a jerk... You wouldn’t be able to control yourself from the temptation of other girls... And maybe you wouldn’t appreciate her like you do now... If I didn’t trap you that night, you would think of getting her easily and playing with her, lying to her... Now you don’t dare to do that because you know the consequences, you know what she will do if you dare to try to be involved with other girls. Indirectly I have taught you a lesson, given you knowledge about how to appreciate Valerie as a woman who loves you sincerely!"
Damian was silent as if slapped by Samuel’s words.
"I know I’m wrong, I’m bad, but it’s also because I envy you," Samuel said again. "You’re bad, you’re a jerk... You always play with Valerie’s feelings... But you can still get her back. I envy that!"
"Samuel!" Valerie exclaimed in annoyance. "You can’t justify every action of yours with jealousy! You disgust me!"
"I’m not looking for justification, I admit my mistakes... That’s why I surrender myself now," Samuel replied firmly. "And this is what she wants. She’s a jerk, but she’s still the winner, not losing anything. Sometimes I feel, God is very unfair to me. If only I were rich... Maybe I wouldn’t be like this," he continued disappointedly, occasionally glancing at Damian.
"Wrong is still wrong, you jerk!" Damian pointed at Samuel.
"I am indeed a jerk... Like you. And a jerk deserves to be in jail," Samuel said, then stood up. "You better go... I don’t want to see your togetherness again, while I’m in this state of ruin... I can’t contain this jealousy," he continued, clenching his fists and walking towards the door.
Valerie stood up immediately.
"You should know about Hannah," she said.
Samuel immediately stopped and then turned to Valerie.
"Something happened to her," Valerie said anxiously, remembering that Hannah was Samuel’s wife, and their baby was his.
"What happened?" Samuel asked.
"She... She had a miscarriage," Valerie replied nervously, especially since Samuel was immediately stunned. "She fell down the stairs while bringing breakfast to my room this morning... And the baby died. Now she’s undergoing surgery to remove the baby," she continued.
Samuel sighed heavily, his head suddenly felt heavy, haunted by the shadows of Hannah, remembering how she freed him, asked him to marry her even though she didn’t love him anymore, and all of that just for their baby.
"How? How could this happen?" Samuel wondered with his disappointed gaze. "How could she stay with you again? Or perhaps you deliberately made her fall down the stairs because you were angry with her for freeing me?" he continued angrily, approaching Valerie.
Damian stood up immediately, pointing his hand at Samuel.
"Hey... Don’t accuse my wife!" Damian asserted.
"But my accusation makes sense!" Samuel retorted. "Besides, I know she doesn’t dare to return to you. She shouldn’t stay with you again... It’s really strange."
"I asked her not to stay with us, as a punishment."
Samuel immediately widened his eyes.
"You made her stay with you as punishment? Did you make her a nanny again? Or even a maid without caring that she’s pregnant?" He asked impatiently.
Valerie shook her head sadly.
"Of course, I didn’t do that!" Damian exclaimed.
"Then what’s the purpose of her staying with you? How did you punish her?" Samuel asked again, his breath racing. "Or maybe you made her go up and down the stairs, making her suffer, tired, until she fell and miscarried? You wanted her to suffer because she freed me."
"No, Samuel, no!" Valerie asserted, tears streaming down her face.
"I’ll tell you all!" Samuel exclaimed with his frustrated gaze, pointing at Damian and Valerie. "Hannah is completely innocent of what she’s done. You have no right to punish her but just punish me, just ruin my life, not hers!" he continued, his eyes welling up.
"She had an accident... It’s not our fault!" Damian affirmed.
"It’s your fault!" Samuel immediately pointed at Damian. "If you hadn’t forced her to stay with you by saying it’s a punishment for her, maybe she wouldn’t want to stay there. You’re too cruel, you always think your actions are right... Now look, she behaves like someone who has to serve a punishment by bringing food to your wife even though she also needs attention... She needs rest...."
"I asked her to always rest and fulfill her needs, I’m not as bad as you think!" Damian exclaimed angrily.
"You always say that you’re right and you’ll always win!" Samuel retorted, pointing at Damian. "I know I can’t fight you, it seems like even God is always on your side. Now you can laugh at what happened to me... Go ahead, laugh because you’ve successfully shown that you’re the strongest even though you’re bad... Laugh because now I’m completely broken, even my baby couldn’t be saved... Laugh at my suffering!" he continued with frustration, then quickly left the room in a hurry.
Valerie stood there, watching Samuel leave, tears streaming down her face as she seemed deeply affected by what happened to Hannah. Now her heart felt torn, regretting this situation.
"It all started because of me," she said, then sat back down.
Damian glanced at Valerie, then sat back down.
"Now I don’t know what to do. I feel like there will be no end if there’s still hatred embedded in your and Samuel’s hearts," Valerie said resignedly, leaning her elbow on the table and brushing her hair back.
"You can’t keep feeling guilty for what happened to Hannah, don’t listen to Samuel," Damian said.
Valerie immediately turned to him. "Do you think this is easy for them? Maybe you think Samuel deserves all this because he almost took your life, he separated us... He did a lot of bad things. but look who’s shattered... him... he’s the one shattered. And you think that’s fair?"
"Yes... it’s fair."
"How far is our suffering? But we’ve never felt loss like the death of baby Hannah... We’ve never starved and slept in a prison cell like Samuel is feeling now," Valerie said, then stood up. "I don’t know... I think this is all unfair... We can’t seek justification while we also have faults," she continued then walked towards the door.
Damian fell silent, feeling strange about Valerie’s words until his attention was drawn to his phone standing in his pants pocket, then he took it out and saw a missed call from the police.
"Hello?" he said as he walked towards the exit.
"Fanny has been declared in a coma by the doctor, while the man next to her has regained consciousness," replied the police.
"Thank you for the information, please send the address of the hospital. I’ll go there," he continued.
"Alright."
Damian hurried to catch up with Valerie who had already arrived at the car, then quickly got in.
"We’re going to see Fanny’s friend," he said.
"Why?" Valerie asked wearily.
"Because maybe he can tell us what Fanny planned... or anything." Damian shrugged. "Because Fanny is in a coma, we can’t interrogate her."
"I don’t want to know about that... Just take me back to the mansion... I want to sleep, I want to rest, I want to calm down," Valerie said wearily.
"To our mansion?"
"Yes..."
"But aren’t you afraid?" Damian asked, glancing at Valerie who seemed to have lost her spirit.
"I’ll just lock the door," Valerie replied without looking back, still haunted by Hannah’s condition and also Samuel’s disappointment. ’I don’t want people to suffer just because of me while I’m here safe and sound with my husband who’s also a jerk. I don’t like this injustice... It will only make them hate us more and maybe new crimes will arise... I’m tired, I’m tired!’
