Chapter 312: Chapter 312. Accusation

Pu Zhang left Qishurg City with Gao Zhong not long after. Before he left, Yan Wang asked him what he meant about making Amon pay. He didn’t answer the question. He said he needed to return to the capital first and request support from his superior, who was the fourth prince. He said once he was ready to act, he would let Yan Clan in on the action.

Even though Yan Clan could not do anything to Amon for now, it didn’t mean they were doing nothing. They could not get to Amon, but there was another person they could target. The person was Gao Lan.

Many witnesses put Gao Lan in the same room when Gao Pan was murdered. She was the obvious killer. Although the death of an underworld member didn’t concern the authorities much, the manner of Gao Pan’s death did raise interest. After all, Gao Pan died from the same poison that killed several respectable citizens in the past. With Yan Clan urging these facts to the authorities, they had to go after Gao Lan.

Thankfully, Amon had expected the move. He had Gao Lan go into hiding. The Demon Gang had many secret hideouts. Even the authorities had a problem looking for one person in the city.

Huang San also used his influence so the city authorities wouldn’t spare much manpower for this search. Yan Clan tried to bribe the city officials they were close with to put in effort for the search, but it was no use. The city officials didn’t dare disobey Huang San’s order.

In the end, the Yan Clan could only send their members and the Highwaymen to search. However, their number was limited. They also didn’t have jurisdiction. They couldn’t access many places, and they ended up clashing with Demon Gang members on multiple occasions. The Demon Gang members weren’t afraid to get into confrontations with Yan Clan people. Fighting was almost their daily activity, after all.

Hence, Gao Lan was safe. As long as she didn’t make a public appearance, no one could get to her.

Amon went back to his routine after knowing he had the top backer in the city. He didn’t need to worry about Yan Clan as long as they didn’t have any direct evidence against him. The only time he needed to worry was when he was out of the city on missions, but he was careful enough that no one knew when that happened.

Qiang Dan and Lu Fei reentered the city after everything cooled down. They were the faces of the Demon Gang while Gao Lan organized them from the shadow.

Amon’s academic points hurt a little because he had to stay put for quite a while due to the conflict with Yan Fan, but he had an advantage he didn’t have during his freshman years. He didn’t have the 5% penalty. His academic points were subtracted by 10,000 points due to his involvement with the underworld, but those points were quickly regained with a few missions.

He went on a mission spree the following year. Without the constant 5% penalty, he managed to keep himself at the head of the ranking board. Sima Fang again kept close to him at the second rank.

The Highwaymen and Yan Clan caused some trouble to the Demon Gang, but nothing significant. The underworld returned to a period of relative peace. Everyone stayed out of everyone else’s turfs.

During this time, a new recreational drug circulated the market. This drug was called Serene Tranquilize Powder. This new drug was distributed by the Demon Gang and gained widespread popularity overnight.

This was another drug Amon modified from his poison. The poison he used as the base of the drug was the Fragile Bone Muscle Poison. The drug induced calmness in its user. It also reduced the feeling of pain if its user was suffering, like the anesthetic drug from Amon’s previous world.

Because of the drug’s effects, it was popular even with the pill master community, who specialized in healing. This drug calmed their patients and made them easier to treat.

Huang San, of course, caught wind of these drugs. He asked to get a share from Amon. Amon told him that he still had a problem mass producing these drugs, so he could not provide the drugs in large quantities. He still gave the thirteenth prince half the number he could produce, so it didn’t appear he was unwilling to cooperate.

Amon went with his routines without any major problems until the fourth year of his junior class. This problem, however, did not happen directly to him and did not take place in Qishurg City. The incident that brought about the problem transpired in White Cloud City.

On that fateful day, countless kingdom soldiers rolled into White Cloud City on horseback. The citizens were taken aback by the parade. During their lives living in the city, they had never seen such a number of kingdom soldiers. They were alarmed by the spectacle. Did a war break out nearby?

Many ran back into their houses and hid. A few brave ones followed the soldiers to find out where the army was heading. As they followed these soldiers, they noticed some people in civilian clothes were in the lead. They didn’t know these people.

The people they saw in the lead were not White Cloud City’s citizens, but they soon saw some familiar faces meeting these non-resident people. The familiar faces were people from the Wei Clan. Together with these outsiders, the Wei Clan marched with the kingdom soldiers.

The march finally stopped after the soldiers reached the estate of one of the three most prominent organizations in White Cloud City, the Lin Clan. The citizens who followed the soldiers watched in consternation as the soldiers spread out. They were encircling the estate.

A fully armored man riding an armored horse came forward. The sentries who guarded the gate to Lin Clan’s estate had run inside in a panic to report the arrival of the kingdom army. The armored man stared at the vacant gate with contempt.

He jumped from his armored horse. A gigantic hammer appeared in his hands. It glowed when the armored man brought this giant hammer down upon the gate.

The hammer might be large, but it was still small compared to the massive gate. Yet, when the hammer struck the gate, it was as if the hammer that hit the gate was many times larger. The entire gate was flattened into the ground.

Following the booming noise from the gate being leveled, a thunderous voice reverberated through the entire Lin Clan Estate.

"Lin Clan! Come out...!!!"

A large group of people came out from inside the estate. A few among this group flew in the air. One of the few who flew was the clan head of the Lin Clan, Lin Weida.

"Hold!! What is the meaning of this? Why does the kingdom army cause trouble here?" Lin Weida demanded.

"Hmph! You are before the kingdom army. I am Major General Jiang Bo. Get down here!" The armored man tapped the pointed end of his hammer on the ground. A wide-encompassing energy spread out, causing the air to shimmer. Those on the ground found their bodies becoming heavy, while those in the air felt they were getting pulled to earth.

Lin Weida was the only one who could resist the pull. He sensed that Jiang Bo had an equal cultivation level as him. Even though he could resist, he still flew down and landed as demanded. Even he didn’t dare act haughty in front of the kingdom army.

He honored Jiang Bo with a salute. "Forgive me, the great Major General, but please explain why this aggression? We have always respected the kingdom."

"Let me explain," another voice answered. The armored man moved to the side as an elderly man in a regal uniform came forward. This elderly man was Pu Zhang.

Lin Weida noticed several familiar faces behind Pu Zhang. They were Wei Suangsou, Wei Linkun, and several other prominent members of the Wei Clan.

"Father... This doesn’t look good," Lin Bubai whispered to Lin Weida.

"Let me introduce myself! I am senior minister Pu Zhang. We come here to carry out a royal decree issued by the crown prince himself, Huang Zi. This decree is to eliminate rebel sympathizers in White Cloud City!"

"Rebel sympathizers...? Are you accusing us?! There must have been a misunderstanding. There is no rebel sympathizer here!" Lin Weida exclaimed.

"Are you saying the crown prince is mistaken? Very well, we will bring out the evidence," Pu Zhang said.

Wei Linkun came forward. In his tow was a man bound by engraved rope. The man’s face was full of bruises. Despite the bruises, Lin Weida recognized the bound man.

"Lin Bang...?" Lin Weida said. Lin Bang was one of their members. He and his family had been gone for a few weeks. He had issued the order to search for them, but there had been no result.

"Clan... Clan master... I am sorry...," Lin Bang said weakly.

"What do you mean...?" Lin Weida asked.

Wei Linkun pushed the man rudely. "Tell everyone the truth!" freēwēbηovel.c૦m

Lin Bang was silent for a while. His head was down, and his eyes closed when he said, "Lin clan... Lin Clan is supporting the rebels in secret..."
