Chapter 325: Chapter 325. Promise

"Everyone, don’t move! Or I will kill her...!" Wei Yunning yelled.

Xin Wuming signaled for everyone to stop. They pulled back. They had all been given the description of Madam Lin, so they knew the woman shackled to the wall was her.

"Hahaha! So, it’s true. You are all Lin Mo’s people," Wei Yunning laughed. She had been gambling by threatening Madam Lin’s life. She figured anyone trying to break into this place should have a connection to Lin Mo.

"Brother, are you all right?" She asked Wei Linkun.

Wei Linkun was not all right. He had many wounds in his body. Wu Di’s Ignition Punch had caused him a serious internal wound. This handicapped him greatly. Fighting against five opponents, even when they all had lower cultivation than him, was too much to deal with.

He propped himself on the wall to stand. Blood was dripping from the various wounds in his body. He now slowly walked toward Wei Yunning while using the wall for support.

Tuang Yin thought about capturing Wei Linkun to counter the hostage situation, but Wei Yunning saw through her intention.

"Don’t you move, bitch!" Wei Yunning exclaimed. Her kunai pressed into Madam Lin’s neck, drawing blood. Madam Lin, who was unconscious all this time, winced from the pain. She grunted as she regained consciousness.

Tuang Yin didn’t dare to act after the threat.

Wei Linkun was still slowly walking toward his sister. Because of his condition, his mystic sense didn’t operate as normal. He didn’t notice when a flying knife zoomed in the air toward him. This knife was swift. Before everyone could react, it embedded deep into Wei Linkun’s leg.

Wei Linkun lost strength in his leg. He fell to the ground, unable to get back up.

"Brother...!" Wei Yunning yelled.

A group of people came into the room. Amon was in the lead. He told Wei Yunning, "If you kill her, you and your brother will follow."

Wei Yunning looked at Amon. It took her a while before she realized who she was looking at. "Lin Mo...?" She asked.

Amon had grown much since he left White Cloud City. He was already tall during his teenage years but was now taller. His body was also broader. He was much larger and bulkier than the average adult. Wei Yunning couldn’t recognize him at first from his physical appearance. What clued her in was Amon’s eyes, those cold scheming eyes. She remembered those eyes. They were still the same as when she first laid eyes on him.

"Lin... Lin Mo...? My son... Is that you...?" Madam Lin’s weak voice was heard. She opened her eyelids, but there were no eyes in those sockets. They had been plucked out.

Tuang Yin gasped at the sight. "You, monster," she scolded Wei Yunning.

Amon didn’t show any expression despite seeing Madam Lin’s condition.

"Let her go. I will let you and your brother live," Amon offered.

"No, thanks. We stay like this. Let’s see what happens when our clan members come," Wei Yunning replied.

"No one will come. There is no more Wei Clan," Amon returned.

There was a pause before Wei Yunning’s laughter was heard again. "Who do you think I am? A five-year-old?"

Amon didn’t respond. He maintained his gaze at her. Her laughter slowly died down. Something told her Amon was telling the truth, but how could that be? It was absurd to acknowledge Amon’s words.

"You should have done something to alert the people up there, haven’t you?" Amon finally spoke again. "Why do you think they have not come down here? Why do you think I am here now with so many people? If your people are still up there, do you think this is possible?"

It was Wei Yunning who turned quiet this time. She just stared at Amon.

"I don’t like to waste time. I won’t offer this again. Let her go, and I will let the two of you live," Amon repeated. "You two are the last of the Wei Clan. It’s your choice to rebuild your clan or have it completely eradicated."

"Sis... Sister...," Wei Linkun uttered weakly while panting.

Wei Yunning looked at her brother. He didn’t say anything after calling her. He let Wei Yunning decide their fate. Wei Yunning returned her stare to Amon.

In that instant, Amon saw through her eyes that he was negotiating with a true madwoman. The lunacy returned. She laughed again.

Amon knew then that it was pointless to talk further. He acted. He lunged forward while throwing his swan dagger. He didn’t throw his flying knives because if Wei Yunning dodged, his knives would hit Madam Lin instead. As for the swan dagger, it was attached to the Xian Cloth. He could stop it midway or change its direction when needed.

Despite his swift response, he was still too late. Wei Yunning didn’t show any signs of dodging. She also didn’t cut Madam Lin’s throat open. Instead, she stabbed her kunai into Madam Lin’s chest, puncturing her heart. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"Hahahaha...!" She laughed as the swan dagger pierced her neck.

Amon pulled, ripping Wei Yunning’s throat. Her laughter stopped then.

Amon swung, and the swan dagger changed direction. It swiped through the chains holding Madam Lin’s shackles. The chains broke. He caught Madam Lin’s naked body before she fell.

"Yin! Recovery and regrowth pills!" Amon commanded as he lay Madam Lin on the floor. His palm pressed on her chest. He was channeling the energy of the Nine Moon Restorative Mantra into her body.

Tuang Yin came hurriedly. She brought the pills and put them in Madam Lin’s mouth. However, Madam Lin refused to open her mouth. She gently pushed Tuang Yin’s hand away. Her other hand went up, searching for Amon’s face. When she found it, she touched his cheek.

Amon could feel her hand trembling.

"There is... no need... I know... My time is up...," she said.

Amon knew that as well. When his energy entered her, he could see how damaged she was. It was too late. Even if she swallowed the pills, it wouldn’t do her any good. The torture she went through these past few weeks had weakened her body considerably. Wei Yunning’s stab to the heart was the last straw. Wei Yunning knew this. That’s why she stabbed Madam Lin’s heart instead of giving her an instant death by ripping her throat or stabbing her head. She wanted Lin Mo to witness her mother dying. This was the last torture she committed upon her death.

Madam Lin caressed Amon’s cheek. She was smiling. "You... kept your promise... You return to me..."

"... The Lin Clan’s demise is because of me," Amon said.

"It’s... not... your fault," Madam Lin replied. "The fault... is on the Lei Clan... the Yan Clan... and the kingdom..."

Amon never said anything about it being his fault. He never felt guilty. He simply pointed out that he was the cause of what happened, but he was rather surprised Madam Lin didn’t hold him responsible for the tragedy.

Madam Lin lifted her other hand. She was trying to hold Amon’s face with her two hands. Amon just watched that trembling hand, which seemed to struggle to reach him.

Another hand grabbed the wrist of that hand and guided it toward Amon’s face.

"Thank you...," Madam Lin said to the person who helped. That person was Tuang Yin. She was crying silently.

Madam Lin caressed Amon’s face with her two hands. Amon felt a strange kind of warmth from those hands.

"You are... so big already... my son... I always believe... you will... reach... great height... I still do..."

She took a long pause as she struggled to breathe. Amon furrowed his brows.

She spoke again, "I know... you will be... going after... those... responsible... for this... But... I have... one request..."

Amon remained silent. Tuang Yin had the urge to slap him for denying his dying mother from hearing his voice.

"I know... what kind... of a man... you are... I know... It was you... who did the... Hei clan in..."

Amon furrowed his brows further.

"I’ve known it... Since I saw... your indifference... when I first... brought you... to the... torture rooms..."

Amon finally spoke, "Then why did you still treat me well?"

Madam Lin smiled. "That is... a silly question... Of course... because you are... my son..."

Amon was silent again. He didn’t know what to say.

"I know the... bloodbath you will cause... to your enemies... and perhaps... to this world... Please, promise me... No matter what... spare the... children... and mothers... Will you... promise me...?"

Amon didn’t answer. Madam Lin also no longer spoke. The room was dead silent. Everyone else in the room just stood there looking at the two without making a sound. It was Wei Linkun who spoke first.

"You two–"

Those two words were the only ones he managed to utter before a flying knife pierced his forehead. Amon threw it the instant Wei Linkun opened his mouth. No one would ever know what he intended to say.

Amon’s other hand was still on Madam Lin’s chest. He continued to pump the Nine Moon Restorative Mantra into her, even when he knew it was only delaying the inevitable. His restorative energy was probably the only thing keeping her alive, but he knew she was running out of time.

That thought gave him a sense of urgency and helplessness he never felt before.

He told Madam Lin, "I promise... Mother."
