Chapter 470: Chapter 470. They Are Not Coming

Gao Fongze and Gao Feng survived the combined assaults. They were not unscathed, though. Both had many wounds on their bodies. Sui Kou didn’t make it. He died from the mob beating.

"Damn it! What the hell happened? I thought you were supposed to intimidate them into submitting to you. We will be in big trouble explaining this when their clans come asking," Gao Feng said.

Gao Fongze didn’t answer. He was still bewildered by the entire situation.

Gao Feng didn’t stop. He continued asking, "And where the hell is the reinforcements? I thought our people were ready outside."

"They are not coming."

Hearing the voice, they realized there were people aside from the two of them who were still alive. They turned and saw Amon still sitting in his chair. Gao Lan remained behind him. The two never moved during the entire ordeal.

"You... It’s you? It’s you who poisoned them...!!" Gao Fongze realized.

"Guilty as charged," Amon stood up.

"Ho... how...?" Gao Fongze asked.

"Haven’t I answered that?" Amon asked in return.

The poison Amon used was the Cold Stiff Poison, and it was indeed placed inside the wine. Similar to during the Wei Clan massacre, the Heavenly Bliss Wine’s strong aroma masked the poison’s stench. He was now more expert in blending the poison, allowing it to be more veiled. No one noticed anything wrong with their wine, even those familiar with the Heavenly Bliss Wine.

"How did you plant the poison in my wine...!" Gao Fongze clarified his question.

Amon chuckled. "Your wine is fine. I only poisoned theirs. If you need me to tell you how the poison got into their wine, then you are not as smart as I thought you were."

"Zhan Jin...?" Gao Fongze realized. Zhan Jin was the name of the inn manager. "That weasel dares to cross me...?!"

"Hehe... He might be on your payroll. But since the first meeting inside this basement, Demon Gang is secretly also giving him regular pay. In terms of the intimidation factor, my Demon Gang didn’t lose to yours. The deciding factor is that he likes us more than he likes you. Perhaps in your next life, treat your underlings a little better."

"Next life? You underestimate us," Gao Feng said. "You must have expected these people to kill us before they died of your poison. However, your plan fails. We are still alive. We will expose your crime. You will be the target of all clans, and you can say goodbye to your colonel rank."

Amon didn’t respond to Gao Feng’s statement. Instead, he chuckled and grinned. This made the two Gao brothers extremely uncomfortable.

"Call your people," Gao Feng again instructed Gao Fongze, who immediately used another message talisman.

After the message talisman turned to dust, Amon said, "You can use as many message talismans as you like. They are not coming."

"What...?" Gao Fongze asked.

"The six underworld organizations that defected to you are no longer yours," Amon answered. His grin turned wider. "They are now subsidiaries of the Demon Gang."

"Impossible!" Gao Fongze exclaimed. "You are lying!"

"Am I? Then how do you explain they do not come when you call?"

"I will call the one that just attacked Mud Sharks." Gao Fongze took out another message talisman.

"They will be also not available. They should be on their way to Street Dogs’ base, after taking care of Street Dogs members who were with them when raiding Mud Sharks."

Gao Fongze paused when he heard Amon’s words. He refused to believe it and resumed using the message talisman.

"In case you are wondering how I took over them, I used the same trick as you did," Amon said. "While you targeted the second-in-line for the leader position, I targeted the third or fourth. The candidates I approached assassinated their leaders earlier this morning, with Demon Gang’s assistance. They had an easy time convincing the rest of their members because they used the excuse of avenging the previous leaders for their actions. After taking over the leadership, they simply pretended to remain loyal to you."

Gao Fongze remembered then. When he held a final assembly before this meeting with the clans, the representatives from the conquered organizations were not the ones who had sworn loyalty to him. When he asked where their leaders were, the representatives made different kinds of excuses. He did feel it was strange at the time, but he didn’t have time to investigate because the clans’ representatives were about to arrive.

With this revelation, the notion that the six underworld organizations were no longer working for him sounded more plausible.

Gao Fongze’s pale face informed Gao Feng that Amon might be telling the truth.

"Brother, let’s break out of here," Gao Feng said. "We can still turn this around. He is only a Beginning Mystic Stage. He won’t be able to stop us."

Amon grinned. "By the way, I lied about not poisoning your wine."

His words made the two Gao brothers look at him with wide eyes.

"The poison you have consumed is not deadly, so you don’t have to worry about that," Amon said. "I can’t have you die of poison. I won’t be able to frame you if so. The poison you consume will only weaken you. It won’t stay in your system, so by the time an autopsy is done on you, there will be no trace of the poison. Do you already feel it? That your bodies become weaker?"

They didn’t feel weak because of the tension. Their adrenaline was high. But now that they paid attention to it, they did sense something wrong inside them. Gao Feng might not have drunk the wine with the others, but he drank it earlier.

Gao Feng came with Gao Fongze before everyone else. The other guests might not know about his presence, but Zhan Jin, the inn manager, knew. Amon instructed him to find a way to offer everyone who came with Gao Fongze the wine containing the Fragile Bone Muscle Poison. Thankfully, it didn’t take much effort to make Gao Feng drink the wine.

Realizing they were also poisoned, Gao Feng and Gao Fongze’s eyes turned even wider.

Amon said, "Why do you think I waste my breath explaining everything to you? Do you think it’s because I enjoy gloating on my enemies? It’s to make sure the poison has spread over your bodies. You two are dead!"

The Xian Cloth on Amon’s right arm unfurled itself, revealing the ceremonial dagger. Amon rushed forward with the dagger in hand. Gao Lan followed behind him.

"Don’t give up!" Gao Feng told his brother. "I will break a path. You hurry up and leave!"

Gao Fongze nodded. The two lunged forward.

Gao Feng’s weapon was a pair of maces. They were high-tier engraved weapons. The maces had large iron balls for the heads. These balls could easily break bones. Powered by his Peak Mystic Strength Stage, they could shatter most engraved-level weapons.

When Amon came inside his range, Gao Feng used a martial art that let him swing the maces with uncanny speed. Amon retaliated using Infinite Phantom Slash. Clanging sounds reverberated across the basement.

Even though he was weakened, Gao Feng expected he could break Amon’s weapon and force him to back off with these clashes. He was proven wrong. He was the one who was beaten back.

"You are at the Intermediate Mystic Stage...?!" Gao Feng asked with surprise.

Another realization added to his shock. He noticed the maces in his hand had many scars after clashing with Amon’s black dagger.

Because he was beaten back, Gao Fongze was exposed. Gao Lan rushed toward him.

"Gao Lan! Are you truly willing to commit the sin of murdering your clanmate?!" Gao Fongze exclaimed. He thrust his sword while speaking. He wanted to throw Gao Lan into doubt while he was on the offensive, but then he noticed the weapons Gao Lan was wielding were a pair of claw weapons. In his record, Gao Lan’s weapon was a saber. The claws burst into flames.

"Who said I was Gao Lan?" The woman behind the mask uttered.

Feeling the aether from the flames, Gao Fongze knew his opponent was a Beginning Mystic Stage. Against a same-level opponent, he, who had been weakened and wounded from the prior battle, was at a severe disadvantage. The first clash was enough to determine the winner.

The woman removed her mask, which revealed herself to be Yang Li. She opened her mouth and used Fire Breath when Gao Fongze staggered. He screamed in pain as the searing flame washed over him. While he was distracted by the flame, two of Amon’s Alpha Flying Knives flew from the back and cut off his legs.

Yang Li swooped in and finished the task by ripping his throat using her flaming claws.

"Brother!" Gao Feng yelled. He was powerless to prevent Gao Fongze’s demise. He himself was in trouble as Amon assaulted him from long-range using the ceremonial dagger controlled by Xian Cloth and the other two Alpha Flying Knives.

When Yang Li joined the fight, his fate was pretty much sealed. His body was getting weaker by the second due to Amon’s Fragile Bone Muscle Poison. He tried to make it to the stairs to escape, but Amon covered all the angles. The Xian Cloth was like a living snake. It struck relentlessly with the ceremonial dagger as its fang. The four Alpha Flying Knives came at him from unexpected angles. Yang Li’s searing hot flames also made it hard for him to advance.

After several minutes of desperate struggle, Gao Feng followed his brother to the afterlife.
