Chapter 394: Scouting

After ten hours of continuous travel, the Gold Crown transportation spaceship reached its destined transit station.

Getting off, they are first questioned for their reason for entry and duration of stay by border control before being registered into the database and a pass regarding the set number of days they were allowed residency.

After which they had to vacate Black Quartet.

For this, Ezra authentically proved that he was part of the expedition party, earning a pass of unlimited duration.

’I was right to follow procedure’

With this, Ezra was in.

Not to mention, the trip was fun.

Ezra hadn’t immediately known, but the other passengers were Transcendents as well.

While he initially intended to strike up a conversation, the fact that there were only the first and second rank deterred him.

It was unlikely they’d have any useful information, not to mention that neither looked like they wanted to strike up a conversation either, so Ezra kept to himself and even slept along the way.

With his brain rested, Ezra was rejuvenated and fired up to find his target.

During the past two months, Ezra had extensively gone over information about Black Quartet, using that information to pinpoint what area in Black Quartet the dragon would be in.

After all, he couldn’t search the entire galaxy, neither did he want to.

Black Quartet had twenty seven star zones, each one with more than ten planets.

The expedition party members were to gather at the central star zone, Centra...yes, he felt the name was lame as well.

It could be called the command center of Black Quartet. Hosting the highest number of higher beings, it was also where black dragon clan was located.

But Ezra wasn’t heading there until a day to time.

Getting on another spaceship, he heads to the star zone he marked out to be the most likely spot.

Using the fastest spaceship available, it only took one hour for him to reach the star zone.

Getting off, Ezra finds that the planets here are shaped differently than those he’d encountered up to now.

Rather than the solid geoid shaped planets rotating around the sun, these ones were disc shaped.

The essence swirling around them made them look like they were made of essence, but the colour of essence differed.

Some were gold, others dark blue, and some yellow.

Twelve discs in total rotated beside each other in perfect synchrony.

Ezra wondered why such a piece of information wasn’t included in that which he read but shrugged it off.

This was no time for such concerns.

Dropped outside the transit station, Ezra took to flight, tearing across space and landing into the nearest planet.

Appearing somewhere else in space ten minutes later, Ezra contemplates his next course of action, it was clear initial plans wouldn’t work anymore.

The planet he just went into wasn’t even populated by dragons. He had to use to escape into his universe before using to return here.

[Don’t you think you’re taking this far too heavily?] Zydrax chimes in.

’What do you mean?’

[You’ll never find them this way. Think Ezra, Think. There’s a much easier way to do this]

’Hmm’

Thinking hard, Ezra finds himself stumped, rubbing his head as he tries to figure out which easier way Zydrax was talking about.

[You’re hopeless] Zydrax stated after ten minutes of watching Ezra flutter around.

’So, what’s the easier way?’

[Did you forget how to ask for help???] Zydrax replies, flabbergasted.

Ezra’s face crunches up. ’What are you...oh!’

He suddenly realized what Zydrax was implying before shaking his head.

’Wouldn’t that be suspicious?’

[You’re thinking far too highly of yourself] Zydrax replied.

’What?!’ Ezra was offended.

[You think people will suspect you want to kill someone simply because you asked where someone lives? Besides, aren’t you a tourist?] frёeωebɳovel.com

’Ah...’ Ezra’s ego deflated.

Through the entire process of which he planned to find the dragon he was looking for, it hadn’t come to mind that he could simply request their location from the natives of this galaxy.

In his mind, the first thing to avoid was suspicion, so he subconsciously excluded seeking help as an option since that would undoubtedly make people suspicious, which would in turn cause problems for him.

’I overcomplicated this matter’

And he failed to notice it earlier because of his confidence in his abilities.

Ezra reflected, facepalming.

[You have a knack for being dumb about simple things] said Zydrax with a chuckle.

Heading back to the transit station at the edge of the star zone, Ezra showcases the picture of the black dragon he found similar to Khasavar on his communicator to the passerby, asking if anyone knew where he could find black dragons that looked similar.

Sadly, even after an hour, no one was able to give him an exact location. So he teleports back to the foremost transit station in Black Quartet.

This time, his organs had twisted in a way far worse than any other until now, forcing Ezra on his knees as he held back moans of pain, waiting till his internal straightened into their right positions before standing.

’I thought I could handle it this time’

The farther he teleported, the worse the side effects.

Despite knowing this, Ezra still used teleportation to test his endurance as rank four Transcendent.

While the pain was unsatisfactory, it was pleasing to know that he could teleport across star zones.

Although, judging that the pain from the time he teleported from the empty Halostar galaxy to the black dragon cluster didn’t hurt as much, that meant the distance between the two wasn’t that much.

Then again, with someone sending troops in Orion while on another galaxy, Ezra should’ve guessed that much earlier.

In any case, back at the border control station, Ezra questions the border control operative, and like he expected, the fellow knew who she was and where to find her.

Border control operatives had seen the most amount of black dragons.

"Why are you looking for her?" the border operative inquired.

"Oh that? I want to ask for an autograph"

The operative-a middle aged man with an orange beard-burst out laughing.

"Alright. Go for it" he said, giving Ezra a thumbs up before turning back to his post, leaving a bewildered Ezra.

’That worked better than I thought’

He prepared that beforehand as an excuse, but he wasn’t sure it was going to work.

’Nice’

Complimenting himself, Ezra used to arrive at the transit station he just left, suffering the same pain.

The star zone he was directed to was in the same direction as the one he was currently.

Since there was no need to repeat the same trip twice, Ezra simply used .

Then, he got on a spaceship heading into the star zone he was directed to.

Dubbed the Black Dragon Palace, it was the largest star zone in Black Quartet, with an impressive thirty five planets.

On each planet was one of the most powerful families in the black dragon’s race.

In this star zone, everyone was a higher being.

From Ezra’s perspective, they should’ve simply called it the dragon’s den since it was filled with dragons.

Also, who were the people who named the star zones?! There’s no consistency at all!

The border control operative mentioned that while the black dragon woman in the picture was from here, she was usually known to reside in Centra under the tutelage of one of the Nascents there.

That wasn’t a problem since Ezra wasn’t really looking for her specifically.

No, there was another problem!

Because the black dragon palace exclusively held major families in each planet, it was closed to outsiders!

In other words, there was no transit station there!

Sighing at the predicament, Ezra picks the next best option and has the spaceship take him to the star zone closest to it.

The more he learned, the less feasible his plans became.

’Should I just try another way?’ Ezra considered.

There would undoubtedly be nascents around. Trying to kidnap someone in such a place would most likely not work out.

Tweaking his plans a bit, Ezra acts.

He decided to travel to Black Dragon palace without , Zydrax had warned him that a lot of places had items that restricted teleportation.

So it would be a bummer if he teleported there and couldn’t teleport out.

Instead, as he flew towards it, he occasionally used teleportation to consistently cover short distances.

Four hours of doing something occurred to him.

’Why isn’t there nobody guarding this place?’

After all, this was the second most important star zone after Centra, wasn’t he supposed to have come across some sort of border control?

[It’s because they don’t there’s anyone stupid enough to try and infiltrate a place teeming with Nascents]

Nodding, Ezra soon reaches the Black Dragon place.

Observing the thirty five planets in the distance, he nods.

Unlike the disc planets, these ones were of the geoid shape he was familiar with, each one with a different colour pattern.

Although...

’Why are they all so big?’

The smallest of thirty-five planets was at least five times bigger than Orion, with two moons orbiting it.

At this moment, he spots a spaceship exiting one of them.

Ezra promptly decides he’d seen enough, and does what he came to do, places a at the entrance of the star zone and teleports back to the star zone he came from.

Nothing good would come from being spotted.

While even he wasn’t sure how much help the gatemark would be, it was better than nothing.

For the time being, he had to gather more information and come up with a more accurate plan.

With the route for scouting blocked, Ezra decides to head to Centra.

Though earlier than planned, Centra is the gathering place of the largest number of higher beings, and if there was a place to gather information black dragons, wouldn’t it be there?

Paying his fee, Ezra boards a spaceship to Centra.

Moving around the entire day, Ezra hadn’t even noticed that the day had passed.

It took but an hour for him to reach Centra, being the only passenger on board at the time.

Departing, Ezra is confronted by the stationed guards.

Of course, there were all black dragons.

One who seemed to be the leader steps forwards, staring Ezra down condescendingly, he spoke.

"Silver Star...you arrived many hours earlier, why are you arriving now?"

Ezra narrowed his eyes at the rude tone.

"I decided to do some sightseeing"

"Oh?" the black dragon commented, a mocking smile forming on his face.

From that answer, he and the other guards immediately guessed.

’He’s a newcomer’

Others from small clans would keep their silence.

’This might be fun’ the leader thought to himself.

"Then I guess you must’ve been dazzle-

"There was nothing much to see" Ezra cuts him off, staring him dead in his eye.

"...what?"

Being cut off so ruthlessly like that was a first for the black dragon, so it took him a few seconds to comprehend it.

"There was nothing much to see" Ezra repeats.

The dragon’s face scrunched up like a squashed piece of paper.

’I wanted to push him around a little, but this one has some backbone. Probably one of the sect geniuses...hehe. I’ll teach you your place’

His eyes let off a malicious glint and he releases his energy to pressure the opponent.

And as though agreed upon beforehand the others join him, letting their energy flare up to pressure the opponent.

Fighting was banned, so they would shower him with their pressure and make him cower.

’Let’s see what face you’ll make’

"Why don’t you repeat your words from earlier, huh? Sols got your tongue?"

Ezra, on the other hand, was unperturbed.

Instead, he used this as an opportunity to measure the strength of the average Transcendent.

The results were highly disappointing.

Of the six guards in front of him, three were rank three, two were rank four and the douchebag of an Elder was rank five.

Yet the pressure they exuded all together felt only slightly heavier than his.

’Hmm, are they weak...or am I the abnormal one?’ he wondered.

’Whatever. Right now, I just need to shut these guys up’

There was a time to hide and time to show off.

This was the time to show off.

(A/N: Sols is a disease that causes a person’s tongue to go stiff)
