Chapter 10: Chapter 10

"Finally, I'm done with this." Luan grumbled, closing his eyes and tilting his head back with a quiet sigh, letting the tension drain from his body.

"Well done, my lord." Kian said, looking at Ava, who had done her best during the interviews. "You as well, Ava; you did well."

"Th... thanks." She stammered, her ears turning red, turning her head away to hide her embarrassment.

"What now?" she mumbled.

"We will be leaving tomorrow morning, so prepare well and tell the other servants the same. Kian will help you with the preparations after a while. Just follow the servants that brought you here to your accommodations." Luan said nonchalantly while petting Vira.

Since earlier, it felt like Vira had been telepathically conveying her feelings. It was strange; when she was happy, it was like a warm, bubbly sensation wrapping around him. But when she wasn't... it gnawed at him, making his mood slightly irritable. He wasn't sure he liked that.

"What a drag," he said while rolling his eyes.

Ava looked around nervously, not sure to whom Luan was speaking, but she assumed it was her, as Kian hadn't made a single mistake during all those interviews.

He was like the perfect butler; meanwhile, she was the clumsy, useless, pretty girl who messed up plenty of simple tasks. Turning toward Luan, she started bowing.

Luan raised an eyebrow at Ava bowing. "What are you doing, Ava?" he wondered aloud.

Ava shot up straight, looking at him confused. "Weren't you complaining about my mistakes during the interviews?" she asked.

"Hah? Why would I complain about that? It was your first day, and I put you on the spot like that. I was just mumbling to myself. Don't take it to heart; you did a decent job. Don't worry so much," he stated. Standing up, he snapped his fingers.

"Let's go, Kian; we're finally done, and tell her to loosen up a bit. When you're preparing for tomorrow," he said.

Kian nodded, "I'll explain it when I'm back, but you did good, like my lord said; you're worrying too much." Kian told her.

Ava just stood there, left alone in the garden. "Was I worrying too much? I thought he would be more strict because he had such a capable butler and he's the son of a duke."

Then she also left, following the servants that brought her here toward her accommodation.

Kian knocked three times softly with Luan standing behind him. "Madam, I've brought the young master. He has finished the servant selection process and has come like you requested."

"You may enter." They heard from inside the room.

Kian pushed open the large double door, holding it open while Luan strolled inside without a care in the world.

Looking around the room, he was impressed by its design, a high ceiling with chandeliers hanging at regular intervals lighting the room, and large windows on the left side giving a beautiful view of the large garden.

At the end of the room stood two luxurious chairs where Hana and Drago were seated next to each other.

"Please don't make this too long; I've been suffering all day to finish the servant selection," he declared, hands in his pockets and yawning.

Hana and Drago just looked at each other with wry smiles on their faces; Hana couldn't help but giggle a little.

"Sweetie, you're lucky we're the only ones here. Be careful with your attitude; we need to keep up appearances to the outside world." She said with a caring look in her eyes.

Drago cleared his throat loudly. "Luan, since you finished the selection faster than your brothers, I'll give you something extra. Consider it a head start."

Hearing that, Luan's ears perked up. 'Now we're talking.' He could hardly wait to hear what he would get.

"Your mother and I have prepared a carriage for you. And inside that carriage is a chest with some gold, silver and some other useful things for your journey." Drago said, with a sigh.

"I know it's a tradition, but it still doesn't feel too good just kicking your children out for a year or two. But it does help them to grow." He muttered to Hana.

"I know, but just trust in Luan like with the other two, even though their mothers helped them out tremendously. I will not do that, Luan. I've also added some surprises to the chest your father has prepared, but I will not interfere unless it is an emergency. Understood?" Hana declared, but her eyes told a different story.

"Understood, mother, and thank you. I will not disappoint you. Same for you, Father. Was there anything else you wanted to say?" Luan asked.

Drago leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling for a moment. "Do your best, Luan. I feel like you'll be the most successful of all my children." He paused, his expression turning more serious.

"Taking risks isn't always a bad thing. When I first took command, there was a risky business venture that could've doubled our wealth. Your mother thought it was foolish, but I went ahead with it anyway."

He sighed softly. "It almost cost us everything. But I learned something from it, know when to take risks, and when to hold back. Not all gambles pay off, Luan."

He gave Luan a steady look. "Take calculated risks, not reckless ones."

"Thank you, Father. I will try my best to live up to your expectations." Luan declared proudly, slapping his fist against his chest.

"Then I will take my leave now, alright?" Luan asked, unsure of what to do next.

"Alright," Drago bluntly said.

"Sleep well, sweetie; tomorrow is a big day. I will most definitely wave you goodbye." Hana said while giving Drago an elbow to the ribs.

Luan rolled his eyes at their blatant display of love. 'I want a wife, and fast. I am a duke's son right now, so it shouldn't be too hard, right?' Turning around, he left the room.

Kian who was following closely behind him said. "Goodnight, my lord. I will help the other servants prepare everything and make sure everything is ready tomorrow for a smooth departure."

Without turning around, Luan spoke. "Alright, I'll see you tomorrow. Make sure everything is in order; I don't want to display anything shameful in front of my parents, especially not after that declaration I just made."
