Chapter 11: Chapter 11
The sun was blazing high in the sky as Kian and the newly appointed servants busied themselves with final preparations.
Meanwhile, Luan leaned lazily against the massive estate fence, yawning as Vira rested atop his head.
"Are the preparations almost done? They will be here soon; make sure not to show them anything shameful," he declared, not paying any attention to what they were actually doing.
He was petting Vira to make sure she was happy, so he only felt the warm, bubbly feeling; if Vira was anything but happy, the feeling she transmitted felt horrible.
So Luan was now forced to study Vira closely to keep it happy while also trying to figure out why she transmitted its feelings.
Sighing, he took a look at the carriage Kian and the others were preparing. The carriage was sturdy and expertly crafted, featuring reinforced wood panels and the Meskevela family crest etched onto the door.
But when Luan checked the interior earlier, he was surprised this wasn't just any carriage; his parents had gone all out to ensure his comfort during his journey. It was an artifact, a spatial one at that, one that expanded the inside multiple times over.
The inside looked like a small house with two bedrooms, a kitchen, and even a bathroom. When Luan saw this for the first time, he almost wanted to run back inside and pray to his parents. He hated the idea of traveling for who knows how long and not having a comfortable bed to sleep in.
'Thank god they gave me something like this to travel in,' he mused, a silly smile appearing on his face.
While daydreaming about the carriage's interior, Drago and Hana had arrived next to him.
Clearing his throat loudly, Drago started. "In the master bedroom, you found a chest, right?"
"Huh, when did you two arrive?" Luan exclaimed, surprised, but he quickly composed himself. "Yes, that's right. But I couldn't open it." He grumbled, clicking his tongue.
"Hahaha, well that's because I hadn't given you the key yet. I wanted to hand it to you today, so I used it as insurance to make sure you wouldn't leave before saying goodbye." Drago said, with a teasing smile.
Luan rolled his eyes. "Why would I leave before saying goodbye? I don't even know how long I'll be gone for. Or do you think I want to leave that badly?"
Hana elbowed Drago in the side. "He's joking, sweetie; don't take it to heart; we just forgot to hand the key over yesterday." She explained, glaring at Drago.
"Here you go, and make sure you show the world what you're capable of." Hana said, handing Luan a large golden key.
"Thanks, Mother." Luan replied, grabbing the key and inspecting it closely.
Then a silly grin appeared on his face imagining what could be in the chest his parents had prepared; he wanted to open it right this instant, but he couldn't do that; he wanted to leave a good impression on his father.
"Is there anything else? If not, we will be going any second now," he stated.
Drago looked around awkwardly, not knowing what to say. Hana, on the other hand, grabbed Luan's free hand.
"Make sure you write often and eat properly. But also don't disgrace the family name, although I don't think I have to worry about that with Kian by your side." She said, looking Luan straight in the eyes.
"But most importantly, take care of yourself; all those other things only apply when you are safe and sound. If you need to do something disgraceful to survive, please just do it. Don't let pride or greed cost you your life. Luan Meskevela, you have to promise me." Hana said, small tears forming at the edges of her eyes.
Luan was taken aback; he had never seen Hana act like this before. 'Is it something from her past? I'll have to ask Kian about it later.' Making a mental note, he cleared his throat.
"I promise, Mom, I will not disappoint you, nor will I let greed or pride cost me my life," he replied, determination evident in his voice and his eyes.
Wiping the forming tears from Hana's eyes, he turned around and lazily waved them goodbye.
Without turning around, he made his final remark. "I will see you after my trip is done."

Hana sniffled, her tough persona crumbling. She watched as her only son slowly stepped into the carriage.
Leaning on Drago's shoulder, she started whispering in his ear. "I remember you having high expectations of him; are you confident he will be able to meet those?"
Drago nodded, giving a grunt of approval.
"Don't let those expectations lead to his demise. Pushing him is good sometimes, but also remember that he is still your son." She softly said, closing her eyes so she didn't have to see the carriage leaving.
Drago stood there looking at the carriage that was slowly leaving until he could no longer see it, and then he turned around holding Hana's hand.
"Let's return to the Meskevela territory; we have nothing left to do here."
Hana followed Drago's lead as they also made preparations to leave.

Flopping onto the sofa, Luan lay there for a while as he processed everything that had just happened.
The room was still, except for the faint rustling of Luciano's movements. Standing by the door, Luciano's tall, lean figure remained composed. His blond, neatly slicked-back hair contrasted nicely with his blue eyes.
"Luciano, get Kian for me," he said, rolling onto his back.
"Understood, my lord," replied Luciano.
After a while, Luciano returned, followed by Kian.
"You needed me, my lord?" Kian said, with a polite bow.
"Yes, right before leaving, Mother asked me something very specific, and I was wondering if you happened to know anything about that." Luan replied, while slowly pushing himself up, his body shifting until he was sitting upright, propped against the backrest.
