Sigil Online: I became the duke's third son-Chapter 9 - 0
Chapter 9: Chapter 09
Morning had barely begun, and Luan was already growing tired of the endless procession of servant candidates. Some were competent, others painfully dull, and a few tried too hard to impress him.
Kian, ever the professional, kept things moving efficiently. Luan, on the other hand, was starting to regret not delegating this entire ordeal.
Leaning back against the tree, he stroked Vira's head softly. "So we have two maids selected now and one butler. Ugh, what a drag. If only they weren't so boring, I would've been done ages ago." Luan grumbled.
"We're almost done, my lord. You don't want to waste all the effort the madam put in in selecting these candidates, right?" Kian replied while coordinating with the other servants to make sure everything went smoothly.
"Yeah, yeah, I know I'm aiming for 5 maids and 3 butlers. We're almost done. I feel like we should be able to finish this today." Luan muttered.
"The next one is coming, my lord. A girl named Ava, and her sigil is called the sigil of the wild pact." Kian told Luan.
Then a young woman around eighteen years old with long red hair and brown eyes, wearing a neatly pressed black and white maid outfit. stopping before Luan and Kian.
She bowed deeply, gulping hard. "Hello, Lord Luan. My name is Ava, and I was told you wanted to ask me some questions." She said, almost fumbling her words, her eyes darting around from Luan to Kian, then toward the small spirit floating next to Luan.
When she saw the small creature, her eyes lit up, and her nervousness subsided significantly. "So cute." The words slipped out before she could stop herself. Her eyes widened in horror, hands flying to her mouth as if she had just committed a grave offense.
Luan narrowed his eyes, inspecting her from head to toe. After a brief moment, he turned to Kian and gave a small nod, permission to proceed. If she hadn't passed his first glance, he would have dismissed her on the spot.
Kian cleared his throat. "Don't worry about the slip-up. My lord doesn't mind that now we have a couple of questions we would like you to answer truthfully."
Ava nodded vigorously, a pleading, almost desperate look in her eyes.
"What can your sigil do? We know the name of it, but there was no info about its abilities. Could you elaborate a bit more on that?" Kian asked, reading carefully through her document to make sure he hadn't missed anything.
"Yes," she shouted, her whole body tensing up.
Luan and Kian glanced at each other Luan trying not to laugh. While Kian just sighed.

"My sigil is mostly related to taming animals and communicating with them. For example, I could ask birds to scout an area or rats to infiltrate somewhere, and then after they did that, they could tell me all the details about the place they infiltrated or scouted." She murmured, fiddling with her fingers as if trying to keep them busy.
Luan looked surprised. 'She's well prepared. And when she puts it like that, it sounds useful.' Turning toward Kian, who also had a surprised look on his face, Luan nodded.
"Thank you, Ava, for that explanation. My lord was very satisfied with it. We will let you know if you have the job or not after a short discussion." Clapping his hands, two servants came to fetch Ava so Luan and Kian could discuss if she was a good fit.
Luan looked annoyed, tapping his finger on his leg furiously. "Why did you say that? Did I not tell you what the sign to hire someone was?"
"My lord, I feel like you're too rash in making decisions like these. If you decide all your servants before interviewing everyone, won't you regret it if you miss a hidden gem?" Kina pleaded, trying to make his point.
"Kian, I chose you because you are capable very capable in fact. And I did say I do not want yes men as my servants, but right now I want to finish it in time. We don't have the time to go over everyone," Luan started shooting Kian a glare.
Clearing his throat he continued. "But I also don't want someone that disobeys my orders. If I'm making a bad decision, that's alright, but right now that is not the case! Stay in your lane; you're just a servant."
Kian raised an eyebrow at Luan's statement, then a smile appeared on his face. With an exaggerated bow, he said. "Understood, my lord."
Luan looked at Kian confused. "Why are you smiling?"
"That's because you remind me of your mother when she was younger. Like an exact copy, it surprised me, and I couldn't help but reminisce a little. I will keep it in mind, my lord." he replied making another exaggerated bow.
Luan rolled his eyes at the over-the-top display Kian made. "Just get Ava back here. I want to finish this fast; I'm getting sick of this."
Kian nodded and disappeared from his spot. Luan had gotten a little more used to it, but it was still unnerving to see someone just straight up disappear.
A minute later Kian and Ava had returned, Ava looked around nervously holding the hems of her dress.
"You are hired, young lady; my lord decided that you are a good fit." Kian stated.
Ava's eyes opened widely, tears forming at the edge of her eyes. "Thank you! I will do my very best." she shouted, while bowing profusely.
Luan looked at her with a raised eyebrow; he couldn't understand why she would be so happy to be hired as a servant for the third son, no less. But he didn't care too much either.
Turning to Kian. "Let her stay here for the duration of the other interviews," he stated, making sure Ava could hear him.
Kian blinked, caught off guard. "Here? With us?" he asked, his usual composure slipping for a moment as he turned to Luan.
Luan nodded nonchalantly, a sly grin spreading across his face.
Ava stood there frozen in place, those words hitting her like a bucket of cold water. All her earlier enthusiasm is gone.
