Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Luan looked Kian dead in the eyes. "I need you all for a couple of things. First, neatly organize all the coins and other items my parents gave me. Second, Kian, you're in charge of keeping track of where the funds go."

Sighing, Luan absentmindedly patted Vira a couple of times before looking at all of them again. "Keep detailed notes of every expense: how much is spent, why it was spent, and who spent it. I don't want any gold mysteriously disappearing. Keep me updated on how much we have left."

Luciano looked at Luan in surprise. 'He would let a servant manage his gold? Is he crazy, or does he trust Kian that much?' He couldn't wrap his head around it. Why would our lord do something like this? Couldn't he just keep the gold in his room and have anyone that needed gold ask him?

Lily and Clover were equally as surprised by Luan's approach; looking briefly at each other, they both were taken aback. But there was nothing they could do about it.

Even if it was only neatly organizing the gold, it would be a new experience for them, and they were looking forward to it. Luan, on the other hand, hated doing chores like that.

Kian gave a respectful bow. "Anything else, my lord?"

"That's all. I'll be outside, so if you need me, you know where to find me."

With that, Luan exited the room.

Left standing there were Kian and the three new servants; Kian had gotten used to Luan's attitude, but the others found it extremely strange.

Lily turned toward Kian. "Is the lord always like that? He doesn't act like how my parents told me nobles would."

"Well, I'm not sure, to be honest. I was serving the madam, the lord's mother, before recently becoming the lord's butler. But from what I've seen, he'll act nothing like you would expect, so try and get used to it." Kian said, scratching his cheek.

Clapping his hands, he said, "Let's leave that for another time; we have a job to complete. What he does do that other nobles do is get annoyed at things that didn't get done properly, so make sure you take your time and do your best. Especially you, Luciano." Kian stated, chuckling.

"Why did you single me out? Is it because I'm a man?" Luciane inquired, curious about his master.

Clover scoffed, "Of course, who needs a useless man? But a useless pretty girl is always welcome, you know."

Luciano glared at Clover, but what she said did make sense. A useless, pretty female servant could always become a mistress if the noble took a fancy to her; as for a man, he would just get fired.

Lily closed her eyes tight, inhaled sharply, and then blurted out the words in a shaky shout. "Please stop this!"

Both Luciano and Clover looked at her; Lily, after not hearing anything for a moment, slowly opened one of her eyes, sneaking a peek at what was happening.

When she saw both Clover and Luciano stare at her, her face turned bright red. "Uhh, I'm sorry," she muttered, tears forming at the edges of her eyes.

Then Kian clapped his hands, grabbing the attention of all three. "Let's not make this environment a hostile one. The young lord is very laid back about things like that, so just do your best, and you will be fine," he said, patting Lily on her head.

Kian gave Lily a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Good job."

Lily sniffled, her lips curving into a small smile as she wiped her eyes.

Luan stood outside in a forest, with large trees surrounding him and the carriage behind him, breathing in slowly, then he exhaled slowly.

"Good job, Ava, you chose a good spot," he stated, not sparing her a glance while she was petting the horses.

Looking around awkwardly, she slowly approached Luan; she swallowed hard, her throat suddenly dry, and with an exaggerated bow, she started. "Young lord, the horses want to run around here and eat; is it okay if I release them while still keeping an eye on them?"

"Sure, but if they run away, I will hold you accountable, so if you need help, ask Kafele or Rania for help if you're not sure. Otherwise, just make sure they return when we're going to head to the next destination." He replied; he raised a hand and gestured for her to leave, his eyes still focused on the walls surrounding the capital.

'It's quite large, I must say. Well, not that it actually matters; I'll be heading toward the Xandrian Freeholds soon anyway.' Shaking his head, he cleared all his distracting thoughts.

"Now it's finally time to try out my sigils," he said, rubbing his hands together eagerly, a grin spreading across his face.

"Vira, come down please; I need your help with this." He muttered toward the spirit that was lying on his head since the moment she appeared out of the mark on his back.

The little spirit floated down from his head, landing in his left hand.

Looking at it Luan had no clue how he should start with the spirit sigil even though he knew the abilities and what they could do on paper. He had no clue how to use it.

So before he would go anywhere, he had planned to take some time to figure that out slowly while Kian trained all the new servants in their duties and self-defense.

Luan stared at Vira, completely clueless on where to begin. He knew the spirit sigil's abilities in theory, but in practice? He had no idea how to use it.

Standing there for a while, he walked around aimlessly trying to figure out how he could use his spirit sigil; the elven monarch sigil wasn't this complicated. Because he saw visions of the previous holders of the sigil.

He saw how other people used the sigil and tried imitating them, and it miraculously worked, so that sigil he just had to keep training with, but for the spirit sigil he hadn't received any visions.
