Chapter 26: Chapter 26

"So I heard what happened; did you all seriously not think it could be a trap?" The boss said, glaring at the three men.

A sigh escaping his mouth, "What are your names? I'm pretty sure you all are new members, right?" he asked.

The man on the left cleared his throat, looking nervously at the boss. "I'm Ben; the one in the middle is Aaron. And the one on the right is Darius." He said, bowing slightly, trying to dodge eye contact.

The boss stroked his beard and grabbed the woman on the right, placing her on his lap; with a grin, he started feeling her up. "I'm Gandar, but you must have known that already, right?" he said, not sparing the trio a glance as he kept playing with the woman on his lap.

"Yes, sir!" The trio shouted in unison, trying not to stare at the woman; she was the boss's woman, so they didn't dare show any disrespect.

"Now then, onto the important matter: did you see anyone or anything out of place in that goblin village? Or did you make sure to not get tailed?" Gandar asked, kissing the woman that stood on his left.

The trio looked at each other awkwardly. "We are not sure, boss. Even though we did look around a little bit, we didn't really think about that being an option; we were just happy to be able to contribute to the gang." Ben said, glancing at his feet.

After hearing what the guard said and now the boss as well, he realized things were never as simple as he thought.

Looking Gandar straight in the eyes, he cleared his throat. "But aren't we strong? What does it matter if a couple of people come?" He proudly said, trying to get in the boss's good graces.

Gandar just rolled his eyes at those words. "You really are retarded; if it's a trap, why would only a couple of people come? Couldn't they just send their knights or even worse, the royal army? We have been a thorn in their sides recently." Gandar said, feeling a headache coming.

The woman on the right, with a flushed face, looked at Gandar. "Will we need to leave this base now?" she asked, glaring at the trio.

Gandar stroked his beard, deep in thought; what Eleonora said was not a bad idea. "That's a fine idea. We will be moving in two days. Get everything ready, Elie," he said with a teasing grin on his face.

Eleonora's ears flushed red, and she started hitting Gandar playfully. "Don't call me that when there are other people!" saying that she recomposed herself swiftly and exited the room to carry out Gandar's orders.

"They won't be able to spread the tale, so no worries." Gandar whispered, a determined look in his eyes.

The trio looked at Gandar, and Darius spoke up. "Did you say something, boss?" he asked.

"Don't worry about it. It's better if you don't know it." saying that he grabbed three daggers from his pockets.

A smirk on his face. "You know what these are, right?" he asked the three standing there uncomfortably, looking around the room.

Their eyes went wide when they saw the daggers Gandar was holding.

"Boss, are you serious? Aren't those the daggers you get when being promoted?" Aaron shouted, unable to hide the smile on his face.

The other two also had a huge smile on their faces. They knew it even though they might need to relocate; hobgoblin corpses were valuable, so they were hoping for a suitable reward, but they never would have expected this.

The woman on Gandar's lap looked at them with pity, 'These fools have no idea what's going to happen,' but remembering that they would have to move the whole gang because of them, the pity turned into scorn.

Gandar just shook his head. "You're almost correct," he corrected, grabbing three more daggers from another pocket.

"There are the daggers for a promotion." After saying that, he put them back then without waiting.

His right arm swelled up, exuding power, and he threw all three daggers at the trio. They had no time to react, and their hearts were pierced by the daggers.

Looking at each other in disbelief, they all fell down onto the floor. Blood flowing out of their mouths, it looked like they wanted to ask why, but they couldn't talk with all the blood flowing from their mouths.

Gandar didn't even spare them a glance; he just stood up, carrying the girl in a princess carry, and left the room.

"Hang them up; show that we do not tolerate mistakes," he ordered the guards.

The guards nodded. Used to this, Gandar had always been meticulous in maintaining an iron grasp over his gang and making sure he was always a step ahead of everything and everyone.

All the goblin corpses were finally in the chest, and Luan was seated comfortably outside, waiting patiently for Torg to return so he could start his first bandit raid.

He was looking forward to it, the killing and looting, and maybe, just maybe, he would gain an unexpected bonus.

He looked at Kafele and Kian, who were sparring. "Don't tire yourself out too much. We have a raid to do in a bit." a huge grin on his face.

Kafele looked at Luan, tilting his head. "Why are you so happy about raiding bandits? Isn't it tedious? Capturing them all and turning them in in the capital?" he asked.

"Huh?" Luan blurted out, jumping up from his chair. To look at Kafele.

"Why would I turn them in? Just wipe them out and loot the place. If some have bounties, just turn in their heads, no?" Luan said, shrugging.

Kafele looked at Luan, eyes wide. Then he seemed to remember something. And a grin spread across his face. "I understand, my lord."

Kian shook his head, wondering from where Luan got all these ideas. Still, a small smile was tugging at his lips.

He also liked disposing of vermin like that; still, he turned to Luan and cautioned him. "My lord, don't talk like that with other nobles, especially not when people know you're from the Meskevela household. They will look down on you."

Luan rolled his eyes. "So what? Let them look down on me; what does that matter to me?" he retorted.
