Chapter 27: Goblin Experts

Goblins were the monsters present in this Group-type dungeon.

In truth, goblins were considered the most common monsters in low grade dungeons.

During the Age of Descent, they were also the monsters that usually come out of dungeon breaks first.

Although low in level and strength, their tendency to easily reproduce and multiply actually causes a lot of headaches for awakened professionals.

This was also the reason why Goblin related dungeons were not usually used to awaken students, as they involve a lot of uncertainty and variables due to their terrifying spawn rate.

Most of the time, though, they were often used as training targets by the students and low level professionals alike.

"I spotted some droppings ahead. From the tracks, there seem to be two or three of them. I don’t know if there’s a settlement nearby," Lexie stated after her assessment. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Since they were the most numerous, goblins were also often the monsters that students studied and learned the most.

Most of the time, they were often made into examples by the teachers during practical combat exercises.

Desther even recalled that a particular school in the south even captured live goblins and let the students practice by fighting them. And from what he heard, those students became more familiar with facing monster attacks, making their survival rate higher in the wild.

Radiant Dawn College does not seem to use this method, though. At least, not that he knows of.

Desther and the others nodded their heads, agreeing with Lexie’s assessment.

As ’goblin extermination experts,’ they knew a thing or two about goblins and were not that worried about them at all.

Considering their strength, theoretically, with four member groups, they should be able to face two or three goblins at the same time.

"We should continue and engage them then," Lexie decided upon seeing that none of them seemed to be afraid.

Even Elena, considered the quiet one in the class, did not seem to be afraid as well.

With her strength, Lexie was also confident in facing those creatures alone, let alone Desther, whom she knew was very strong as well.

And there was still Noah’s gun that should be able to kill a goblin instantly with a headshot.

"Ready your weapons, I’ll go and try to lure them over here."

As planned before, since she was considered the fastest and quickest among the group, she would be the one to lure the goblins they would encounter. Desther and the others would then wait for her and ambush the monsters once she was in a safe distance.

"Alright, you be careful," Elena stated with a serious face as she gripped the staff more tightly.

Lexie left as Desther and the others began to prepare for their ambush.

Due to him owning a shield, Noah took the first position.

Thinking about it, Desther realized why this brat did not take any weapon and prioritized his defense items instead. It turns out he had already planned to rely on his gun beforehand.

A few meters behind him was Elena holding her long wooden staff. With considerable range, she would be able to support Noah if necessary.

Meanwhile, Desther was situated not far away from the two of them. With a dagger in hand and his attack skill, Lexie had decided for him to take the rear.

According to her, this decision was due to the fact that they could not guarantee a sure kill, and if the monster slips through Noah and Elena, it would be Desther’s job to hold the monster off and allow the others to refocus.

Of course, she did not mention that Desther would be able to finish the monster off without their help. She was crafty enough to choose her words, not allowing Noah and Elena to suspect that she was actually making him their last hope or the final line of defense. Knowing Desther’s strength, she knew that he would be able to do it if he wanted to.

Although Desther was able to see through her plans, he did not comment and oppose them.

As a matter of fact, being on the back line was his intention as well.

That way, he could observe the situation more clearly and would have more time to adapt to any situation that might occur.

Of course, like Lexie, Desther also hoped that Noah and Elena would be able to handle the goblins that would come their way.

...

Lexie gripped her sword tightly as she moved forward with caution while following the goblin’s tracks.

Although quick due to her skill, she was not foolish enough to provoke multiple goblins and lure them toward her companions.

The basic rule when ambushing has always been to assess the feasibility of the ambush succeeding by assessing the strength and numbers of the prey.

If there were just two or three goblins as they predicted, then it would be fine. However, if she somehow encountered a goblin settlement with dozens of goblins, she and her team would be done for.

’With me and Desther, it should not be a problem to kill dozens of goblins, though,’ she thought as she recalled the scene of Desther fighting the Tier 1 Warrior to save her and then shooting the Dungeon Boss behind her to save her once more.

Her confidence was not only due to her witnessing Desther firsthand.

Her confidence stems from the fact that her awakened talent was actually quite strong.

At least, that was her assessment of it.

Thinking of the skill that came with her talent, she could not help but lament that she did not put it to good use while fighting that Tier 1 Warrior.

After all, she had suspected that she would be assassinated but never thought that the assassin would be a Tier 1 Awakened Professional of considerable strength.

’Well, I guess their determination to kill me at that time was in all time high.’

Her initial assumption was actually that one of her recent classmates would be the one to target her.
