Chapter 174: I see, are you sure that’s your final decision?
"Just make sure it’s done quietly." Lucas’s unease was still there even then, his body tensing, his palms tightening in his pocket. Marcus might’ve have been a meat head but he was strong at the very least, not to mention resilient, since he feels to their supposed target, Lucas wasn’t so sure he could take on the guy even if he prepped for the occasion.
It was obvious he still had lots of misgivings about this, But before he could argue, Machete leaned closer.
" If you do this perfectly, then I’ll give you a bonus. How does 100 mid-grade mana stones sound."
" 100 mid-grade?! Are you sure boss?" Lucas’s pupils dilated in excitement.
" Of course, if not that we’re currently tight on funds I would add some more, after all, Marcus’s life was worth more than that!"
" Hahaha, Boss you really are the best!" Lucas finally gave in, the offer, stopping his doubts, his eyes narrowing as he chuckled coldly, a spark of greed mixing with his nervousness.
" Just give me a few days to prepare." Lucas suggested, he wasn’t stupid enough to rush in immediately.
" A few days is too much..." Machete shook his head lightly. He wanted to kill the bastard now before something else would turn up.
" Boss, like you said. Since this guy is capable of taking down Marcus without alerting the enforcer knights, we’ll need to be even more careful if we wish to eliminate him." Lucas tried talking the man into reconsidering. He didn’t want to give up on the offer and he also didn’t want to risk his life either.
" All I need is a few days to get my things in order. Come on boss, you at least owe me that much. I am going to have to take out this guy without causing a scene."
" Fine... But I’m only giving you a week at most. If you can’t do it in that time span then forget it, I’ll find the time to deal with him personally." Machete’s resolve to do this alone surprised Lucas, making him realize that the bond between his Boss and Marcus, mustn’t have been simple. But no matter, he at least got what he was aiming for.
" Hahahaha, Say no more, Boss. That bastard is as good as dead." Lucas chuckled lightly before finally leaving machete’s office.

Su Ping and Vivian searched all day but in the end, they found a good home within the southern region. A nice 2 story building that was neat as well as sturdy and in good shape. It’s location wasn’t that far from the inn they stayed at, and it was built with good plumbing, plus the interior was nice. It was all Su Ping could ask for.
The air in Lilia’s cozy 2 story house, smelled of polished wood and fresh hay, with old paintings and antique candle holders, hanging on the walls, hinting at the unknown number of years the house had lived through.
Lilia, the house owner, was a woman who looked to be in her mid thirties, with short brown hair and a strong, tanned, muscled body that seemed to tell that she must be a dutiful and hardworking person.
She stood with her arms crossed above her sizable chest, her suspender pants and gloved hands giving her the look of a tough cowgirl from the west, back on Earth. Her facial features weren’t half bad as well, but they weren’t on the level of being called a top beauty, either. Her unique look had Su Pings eyes lingering more than they should.
A nostalgic feeling grew in his heart, staring at the landlady Infront of him, he couldn’t help remembering a similar muscle bodied woman, although Lilia’s physique was far lesser than the former, by far.
The house was perfect, fitting all of Su Ping’s requirements, unfortunately.
" I’m sorry but I don’t plan on selling this place. I thought the both of you came to rent it out, if it’s to sell, I’m afraid I’ll have to refuse."
Lilia shook her head firmly, her hazel eyes narrowing as she told Su Ping she wouldn’t sell her house.
" If money is the issue we can simply add a bit more." Vivian stepped forward.
She stole a glance at Su Ping, noticing he didn’t react to her words in any way, she sighed inwardly with relief before continuing.
" Adding more money won’t change my mind." Lilia sighed and shook her head.
" Are you sure, what if we increase the original bid by 200%" Vivian refused to give up, upping the price instead.
" It’s not about the money..." Alas, Lilia still remained firm on her decision.
" What about 300% then?" Vivian still refused to give up, upping the price again but Lilia remained silent.
" 400?"
" 500?"
"1000%?" Vivian’s voice changed from calm to confused as she offered more money, raising their offer several times, her fingers nervously twisting her dress. But Lilia stood her ground, stubborn as a mule, shaking her head each time, her boots tapping against the wooden floor, the faint thudding sounds of the boards showing her lax yet bored demeanor.
Noticing that her words had no effect, Vivian let out a tired sigh, her shoulders slumping, her eyes secretly darted towards her master once more, worried that Su Ping might get mad and do something to Lilia.
To her surprise, Su Ping stayed calm, standing in silence next to the doorframe, his dark eyes nonchalant instead of his familiar cold glare.
" I can see that no amount of money will change your mind. However." Su Ping said, his voice trailing on. " Could you at least tell us why."
"Why are you so unwilling to part with this place?"
" It’s not every time I get rejected so vehemently." he asked, his voice calm, filled with genuine curiosity, the cool breeze from an open window brushing past him. Causing his hair to flutter ever so gently.
"Perhaps it has nothing to do with monetary value but a personal reason?" Su Ping had no ulterior motives for asking, to be put it bluntly, he was just curious. In all his time, living in this city, he’d come to accept that all issues could be solved with money, except for his troubles with the southern region gang, but that one was a different matter all together.
" Well this is a first. No one’s ever cared to know why." Lilia gave a small smirk, chuckling in a warm but friendly tone.
"To be honest, I thought you’d instantly throw a fit after being rejected, like some of the people that came to purchase this place in the past." she said, her eyes sparkling with a mix of amusement and contentment.
" I’ll have you know I’m not that type of man" Su Ping chuckled, his handsome features becoming even more prominent.
" That I can see." Lilia replied jovially before easing up.
She then sighed, her eyes glancing at an old, faded picture on the wall. "This house has been in my family for generations. My parents were the ones who passed it down to me, the same way their parents gave it to them."
"It’s all I have left of them." Her voice held hints of melancholy at this point.
" The only reason I’m bothering to rent it out now is because I’m short on cash I need to run my business." At this point, Her voice got quieter, showing a bit of softness under her tough shell, her gloved fingers brushing the painting infront of her, as if she was holding onto a certain memory from the past. The thought of it caused her lips to curl upwards a little before she let out a light sigh.
" I see... No wonder you were so firm on your decision." Su Ping smiled gently, his hair falling over his forehead as he tilted his head, chuckling. He couldn’t help seeing a bit of himself in her, at least the him from before he was reincarnated.
"You probably want to pass it down to your kids someday, huh?" he said, his tone light but kind, his eyes catching the soft light from the window.
Lilia trembled a little, letting out a big laugh, before shaking her head. "I wish." she said, her voice playful but filled with hints of sadness.
"I’m not even married, so how could I pass it down to anyone." She revealed a helpless smile.
Su Ping’s eyebrows went up, a teasing look crossing his face. "You must be joking! A wonderful woman like yourself still hasn’t been sought after? I find that hard to believe."
He said, a spark of fun in his eyes that made Lilia hold back another laugh. "You’re quite the charmer, aren’t you?" she said, her smirk growing, her cheeks turning a bit pink under his unexpected kindness.
Su Ping grinned, happily taking the compliment with a playful nod, his hand running through his hair as if feeling secretly nervous from the unexpected compliment.
