Chapter 175: The Dark Dragon King is Worried?
"Where are you going to stay, then, since you weren’t planning to sell?" his face calmed down a little, his voice curious, his eyes still lingering on her.
Lilia shrugged, her suspenders moving against her strong shoulders. "I’ll just book a room at an inn." she said, sounding sure, though Su Ping could easily see through the skepticism hidden in her eyes which made him realize that she was more tight on money than he expected.
Su Ping raised a brow, his smirk coming back. "An inn isn’t exactly cheap, Didn’t you say cash is tight?" he asked, his voice teasing but not mean.
Lilia huffed, her breath moving a loose strand of hair. " I’m well aware but, I can take care of myself."
Su Ping’s gaze moved over her, his smirk turning into a nod. "That fact is clear as day." he said, sounding impressed,
"Then there’s no need for you to worry, but if you really want to help a damsel out, why don’t you rent this place now."
" I think I’ll do a bit better." He smiled again before speaking. "Why don’t you stay with us instead?"
Lilia’s eyes got wide, her body tensing as she stepped back, her gloved hands tightening. " I think that’s a bit too much for a joke." she said, her voice surprised.
She shook her head lightly, with a bit of remorse. "I like you, but I don’t go for guys who think I’m less than them."
To that, Su Ping merely chuckled but he restrained himself lest he upset her.
" Besides, I don’t want to mess things up with you and your wife." she added, her eyes flicking to Vivian, who turned bright red, waving her hands in a panic.
"No, no, you’ve got it wrong!" Vivian said quickly, her voice high and flustered, her cheeks glowing. "I’m not his wife, I’m just his–" Vivian froze at the end of her sentence, not knowing what to say.
Lilia blinked, looking confused as she glanced between them, her curiosity evident. She couldn’t quite tell just what sort of relationship the both of them had.
"Then what’s the deal with you two?" she asked, her tone direct but interested, as if she was wondering whether they were a couple or not.
Su Ping laughed, his voice warm and easy. He never thought someone might misunderstand their situation.
" She’s a staff of mine." Su Ping spoke up, saving poor Vivian from stressing herself.
"My wife couldn’t come with me today, but I’m sure she’d be more than happy with you staying with us. The house is big, and having you around would make things more lively." he said, his friendly and reassuring words, easing the room’s tension.
Lilia went quiet, her eyes dropping to the floor as her face turned contemplative, thinking hard.
She thought about it for awhile before she nodded. "Okay, I’ll stay," she said, her voice steady but still not completely sure.
"But since I’m staying, I’ll lower the rent a bit." Su Ping didn’t argue, after all, who would reject free money.
" Pleasure doing business with you." Lilia held out her gloved hand. He nodded before grabbing it. They shook each other’s hands, her rough palm meeting his, sealing the deal.
"We’ll move in tomorrow. You don’t have to remove the paintings or anything else, just be sure to tidy up the rooms for us." he said, before he turned to leave with Vivian, his boots making a soft sound on the wooden floor, the door creaking as they stepped into the cool evening air.
Lilia walked outside and stood in the door way as she watched them go, her smirk returning as she leaned against the doorframe, her eyes following Su Ping who headed farther and farther away.
She bit the corner of her lip, feeling a strange warmth in her chest, something she hadn’t felt in a long time. Shaking her head, she sighed, suppressing the feeling.
" If only it were possible." She muttered to herself, Her voice was soft, almost wishful.
She looked down at her strong, curvy body, her suspenders tight against her skin. "He’s not a bad choice but I’d rather he didn’t ruin his relationship because of me..."
" If I were his wife, I’d probably not want him to get a second one." she said, a helpless smile creeping onto her lips.
"Lets not think of this now, He was probably just being nice." She smiled weakly before stepping inside and closing the door. The setting suns rays, peeked in through the windows. Instead of heading upstairs, she leaned against the door, her head tilting down to her chest that blocked her view.
" It’s obvious he was being nice... there’s no way someone would want a woman built like me." Her words hung in the quiet house, her self-doubt lingering like dust, even as a tiny spark of wonder lingered in her heart.
" Is something the matter?" Su Ping glanced at Vivian, for awhile now, her gaze would occasionally shift towards him as they walked side by side.
" I-its nothing master... I just thought that this was the first time I ever saw you become so happy while talking with someone else." She smiled nervously, her eyes roaming about, trying to avoid glancing into those eyes of his.
" Happy? Are you saying I always look miserable?" Su Ping blinked in surprise.
" N..No, of course not. What I meant to say was that you must’ve really enjoyed talking with the landlady." Vivian replied franticly.
" Well I won’t deny that." Su Ping chuckled. " I must admit, she is a wonderful woman."
" Oh...ok." Vivian simply nodded without saying anything else. Her reaction drew Su Pings interest, judging from her body language as they kept walking, he could tell that she seemed conflicted about something.
" Is something the matter?"
" W-What ever could you mean?" She stuttered, shying away.
" Vivian... Are you hiding something from me?" Su Pings eyes squinted a little, he found it unpleasant to remain uninformed, no matter what matter it was, especially the thought of his own vassals keeping something from him.
Vivian tried acting as if she didn’t notice his obvious piercing stare but the more they walked, the more beads of sweat trailed down her forehead. In the end, she gave in, letting out an audible breath.
" I-I just think that it’s unfair for master to have eyes for another woman when he already has one." Vivian blurted out in a single breath, panting lightly to catch her breath as if she’d just done something tiring.
She had never met the masters wife but, when she heard him mention his supposed wife earlier, she couldn’t help feeling unsettled inwardly when watching him behave so jovially with another member of the opposite sex.
" And who told you I had eyes for another woman." To her surprise, her master wasn’t displeased with her words but simply smiled in an amused manner, his smug face instead made her cheeks brighten a little from embarrassment.
" B-But you called the landlady–" Vivian’s voice heightened a little but she hurriedly clasped her mouth with her hand’s.
She felt relieved when she saw those near them eyeing her casually before walking past. For a second there, she thought she had just caused a scene and might’ve implicated her master accidentally. Fortunately she was able to stop herself in time.
" Her being a wonderful woman has nothing to do with those sort of thoughts, it’s simply a fact." Su Ping chuckled, he felt a bit better knowing the secret she was trying to keep, wasn’t as serious as he’d thought. " What made you think in such a way anyway?" Su Ping asked, raising a brow.
" Did I come off as the type of man who would be disloyal to his spouse."
" Forgive me master, I didn’t mean it that way." Vivian apologized, almost kneeling in distress out here in the middle of the street.
" Don’t, there’s no need for such. I’m not displeased but curious." Su Ping held her shoulders stopping her before helping her back up.
’ Do I really look like a cheater?’ Su Ping was genuinely worried because he felt that if she thought he really was, then it meant Melinda must’ve thought the same yet didn’t tell him.
The last thing he wanted was for her to endure everything in silence. He knew she wouldn’t tell him even if he asked.
’ That’s just the type of person she is...’ Su Ping sighed helplessly.
" If it’s your will to know, then. You really looked like you had your eye on the landlady back then, master." Vivian forced a smile. Her face filled with nervousness. Even if he said it was ok, she still felt anxious. She knew that one wrong word could be all it took to displease him.
Recalling the incident that happened at the inn when she first met him, she became even more anxious. But again, her master surprised her by remaining silent, not saying a word on the matter.
