SSS Ranked Dragon King: My Innate Ability is Unbelievable.-Chapter 177: Keep dreaming, I’d never let that happen unless pigs fly.
Chapter 177: Keep dreaming, I’d never let that happen unless pigs fly.
Though it proved stubborn and continued to attack, almost severely damaging one of them through a stroke of luck but in the end, it’s attempt was futile and it ended up collapsing with a ground-shaking thud that sent leaves fluttering.
" We did it..." The mage tried to catch his breath, the entire ordeal had left him on edge.
The fact that it took all of them today deal with the beast didn’t mean they were weak because it stood to reason that beasts were far stronger than humans on the same level, which was why adventurers needed to be in party’s to be able to take down one on the same level, although they were special cases of adventures being able to take on a beast of similar ranking on their own. Whether due to skill or with the aid of a special weapon.
" I can’t believe the blasted thing took this long to kill." The tank huffed in between words.
The swordsman and tank, panted, their breaths clouding in the cold air, sweat glistening on their faces as relief settled over them.
The party leader, sheathed his sword, his sharp features softening into a grin as he clapped the mage on his shoulder.
" I think you might’ve gotten stronger this time, who knows, our little group might be expecting a second Lvl 2 rare tier adventurer." The swordsman chuckled.
" Y-You really think so?" The young mages eyes brimmed with anticipation.
" Of course, If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were already a rare tier with how the beast almost went straight for you. Your magic’s gotten really strong." He nodded with a proud smile.
"Great work, everyone," he said, his voice warm with pride.
He turned back to the mage, a playful glint in his gaze. "With your share from this kill, you’ll finally have enough to help your little sister get better, right?"
"If she gets better, maybe I’ll end up being your brother-in-law, kid," the tank teased with a wide grin, his hammer resting on his shoulder as he winked, his masculine voice booming in the still of night.
" The day that happens is the day pig’s fly!"
The mage’s pale face broke into a shy smile at the swordsman remark, but his eyes narrowed as he shot a glare at the tank, who chuckled deeply.
The Archers laughter, bright and clear like a bell, mingled with the swordsmans deeper chuckle, the two of them shaking their heads at the bickering pair under the starry sky.
" Enough you two, it’s getting late, how about we wrap things up here and hurry on back to the city before those blasted enforcers start asking for lateness fees." Said the party leader in a jovial manner, but his brow suddenly furrowed all of a sudden.
His hand instinctively gripped his sword as his eyes snapped to a cluster of shrubs at the edge of the clearing, their leaves rustling oddly in the still night. He thought it might just be a little animal wandering through the forest at night, but he became agitated when he perceived the faint scent of rot drifting in the air.
His sudden reaction, drew the group’s attention, they all mimicked him and became alert, the forest’s night time lullaby replaced by a tense silence, the air growing heavier with the growing stench of decay.
A grotesque figure lurched from the shrubs, a rotten beast corpse, its flesh hanging in ragged strips, its hollow eyes glowing faintly in the moonlight.
The swordsman flinched at the sight, his heart skipping a beat when he saw the condition it’s body was in, but an arrow whistled through the air the next moment, piercing through the creature’s forehead before stabbing into a tree behind it.
The beasts eyes dimmed before It collapsed instantly. The swordsman turned to the archer, who stood with her bow lowered, a smug smirk on her lips as she slung the weapon over her shoulder.
" Well what, you said we needed to hurry." She said, causing the swordsman to chuckle before letting out a sigh.
" Fine. But at least let me check something." He said before walking up to the thoroughly dead creature, squatting Infront of it.
" It looks way too damaged to tell what sort of beast this is." said the mage as he approached the dead zombie creature, its foul smell now overwhelming the once fresh night air.
The mages frown deepened the more he looked at the corpse, his staff glowing faintly from the unconscious release of mana while he crouched beside it.
"We’re still close to the city, So how come an undead decided to show up here?" he asked, his voice filled with worry, fingers gripping his staff tightly. It was obvious he was nervous about this creatures sighting.
Normally, one would have to delve deeper into the forest before they came across monsters like these. The fact that they found one so close to the city, left him unsettled.
" Who knows." The tank shrugged, his massive shoulders moving as he nudged the corpse with his hammer, his tone casual but his eyes scanning the dark trees as if hopping for another to pop out in hiding yet non did, which made him feel relieved.
"The fact that it’s not amongst a horde is even more strange. Maybe it’s just one of those lucky cases, Whatever it is, it’s not our problem." he said, letting out a groan as he stood up, but his words were cut off as a black blur shot out of the dense foliage, leaves scattering in the moonlight.
" What in the world is that?!"
" Everyone stay alert!"
The group’s screams of alarm shattered the temporary silence as the creature stepped into the moonlight, it was a massive zombie wolf beast.
They became worried when they sensed that it was a Lvl 2 elite beast.
The zombie beast didn’t give them much time to react. It suddenly lunged at one of them, knocking them away from the group, its dirty fur clinging to decayed flesh with gaps in-between that revealed visible bones. The beasts infected fangs gleaming as it towered over the tank.
" Bloody bastard, You think you can just pick us off one by one?!" The tank roared, raising his shield.
the creature’s jaws clamped onto his arm guard, the metal creaking as he struggled to keep its dripping fangs from his face, the sour stench of rot choking his nostrils.
The swordsman, archer and maid rushed to his aid, their weapons raised, but before they could reach him, the forest erupted with multiple sounds again.
In a single moment, more zombie beasts began bursting out from the dense vegetation, their snarls reverberating throughout the space while the group of adventurer’s braced for a desperate fight.
" Damnit! Everyone, we’ve encountered a zombie horde!"
Kael, the party leader, roared in anger, his voice filled with urgency as he gripped his longsword tighter, its blade glinting faintly.
"Be careful! Remember not to let them bite or scratch you, we don’t have any purification potions with us, so any physical injury could be deadly." he shouted.
" You two stay here and protect yourselves, I have to help him!" He glared at the wolf zombie beasts still attacking the tank, but his pupils dilated with horror as he killed his way over, because, the number of zombies didn’t stop but, They ontinued to increase, in seconds, more and more zombified beasts would emerge. Although majority of them were Lvl 1s, with some being Lvl 2 common units.
RARRGHH!!!
Several zombie beasts snarled, their fangs dripping with saliva as they pounced towards the archer and mage.
" Lightning barrier!" The frightened mages pale face was slick with sweat, when the zombie beasts were almost upon them, he thrusted his staff forward.
His slim body trembled as he conjured a shimmering barrier composed of crackling lightning around himself and the archer.
The visible lightning failed to deter the zombie beasts in any way. They all crashed into it, even as their flesh singed and began to smoke, they stubbornly attacked the barrier.
As they died, more would emerge to take their place, soon, piles of singed corpses were lay’d Infront of the barrier but the zombie beasts continued to charge forward.
The barrier did nothing to stop anything that left from the inside. The archer took the opportunity to attack, letting loose, arrow after arrow, Yet her eyes widened with fear as more and more zombie beasts emerged like a repulsive never ending swarm.
" Just die Already!!!" The archer screamed in frustration. She gritted her teeth, refusing to falter, her hands steady as she continued to fire arrow after arrow, some glowing with magical power that enhanced their destructive output.
Each shot pierced the beasts’ rotting flesh, their guttural yelps echoing constantly
as more lunged from the dense forest, their numbers swelling into a terrifying swarm that battered the barrier relentlessly.
