Starting as a Class Five Mutant-Chapter 593
Chapter 593 - 593
Syd's focus shifted to the Dreamwalking spell.
The next second, a ripple in space flickered, and a pitch-black, sinister-looking book appeared before him—the Darkhold.
Now, as a Creator God, looking at this book again didn't bring him any comfort. On the contrary, it made him feel even more wary.
Only after reaching the level of a single-universe god could one truly understand how terrifying a multiversal-level being really was.
Before, he hadn't taken the Darkhold's master—Chthon, the ancient god of chaos—very seriously. Looking back now, that was far too naive.
Syd's expression grew serious as he recalled the faint whispering he'd heard not long after awakening his Chaos Magic.
That voice—it might have come from Chthon himself.
Clearly, his sudden emergence as a Chaos Magic user had already attracted Chthon's attention.
It was just that Chthon remained sealed and unable to manifest yet, which was why trouble hadn't arrived.
But Syd was certain—once Chthon escaped his prison, it wouldn't take long before he came looking for him.
And Chthon would escape. It was just a matter of time.
If Chthon were to break free before Syd's strength reached the multiversal level...
He'd have to deal with the God of Dark Magic Chthon, the vaguely linked Trinity God of White Magic—Vishanti, the looming threat of the Outer Gods' true forms, multiversal beings like Eternity and Infinity...
Even the Time Variance Authority, possibly connected to the remnants of the multiversal variant Kang.
Not to mention Arishem the Judge, who fled and might return with stronger Celestials.
Thinking of all this made Syd's head ache.
Only now did he realize just how deeply entangled he had become with so many multiversal-level beings.
Even if there wasn't deep enmity, that didn't mean they wouldn't act.
Maybe one of them was just having a bad day—and if they noticed him...
Syd didn't dare gamble his life on the whims of such beings.
That thought filled him with a rising sense of crisis and an even more urgent desire to grow stronger.
Reining in his thoughts, he turned his attention back to the Darkhold.
Looking again, he sensed a faint connection between the book and something else.
He immediately suppressed his curiosity and resisted the urge to explore it.
No doubt, that link led to Chthon. It was entirely possible Chthon could transmit his power through the book.
Syd flipped through the pages until he found the Dreamwalking spell.
He compared it to what he remembered from before and, finding no inconsistencies, began to cast the spell.
A radiant white glow burst forth from his body as his internal energy began to deplete.
In an instant, Syd noticed a stark difference from before.
He could faintly sense countless universes—and countless versions of himself.
Of course, these were only projections—not true parallel selves.
"...It actually worked."
A flicker of amazement crossed Syd's eyes.
He could feel that his consciousness could be projected into any of these versions of himself, allowing him to control them—just like the Scarlet Witch had done in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness.
But before he could act, something went wrong.
Even though he hadn't used the Darkhold to cast the spell, he still sensed a dark energy slowly creeping toward him, trying to corrupt him.
Syd immediately sensed it.
That energy twisted minds, corrupted spirits, and altered one's essence to become compatible with a particular entity.
The final goal—body possession and rebirth of that entity.
Of course, this wouldn't work on just anyone. Only those with high compatibility could serve as Chthon's vessel.
Like the Scarlet Witch.
Or... himself.
Syd's brow furrowed. His body flared with light, resisting the encroaching darkness.
On the surface, it seemed he had held it off—but what lay beneath, he couldn't be sure.
He knew far too little about the tricks of multiversal beings.
"Once I finish testing this Dreamwalking spell and understand its principles... I'll make my own version."
Syd's wariness grew stronger.
But once he understood how it worked, he was confident he could create a similar spell on his own.
In traditional mythology, gods were born of the world itself. Magic was just a secondary force. If a god desired to learn it, mastering it was effortless.
As the God of Light, Balder, Syd naturally inherited this trait.
Even from his early days experimenting with various magic types, he could wield them all with ease—proof enough.
In this case, as long as he understood the theory, creating his own version of Dreamwalking should be within reach.
With that thought, he refocused on the projections.
Strangely, he noticed that some projections were brighter while others were dim.
The bright ones gleamed like daylight, the dim ones like dying embers.
Curious, Syd chose the weakest and dimmest one to test.
The next second, he felt part of his consciousness being pulled away.
That part of his awareness traveled into the faint projection.
Just as he began testing Dreamwalking...
Beyond Earth, something else was unfolding.
Five beings descended upon the planet.
One was cloaked in darkness, resembling the starry night sky, with galaxies and stars within his body—Eternity, the embodiment of universal time.
Another was black and yellow, her body traced with black lines, appearing female—Infinity, the embodiment of space itself.
A third, draped in a black robe, had the form of a skeletal woman—Death, the embodiment of the end of all things.
The fourth wore a crimson robe, had gray-black skin, and glowing white eyes, looking terrifying and fierce—Annihilation, the embodiment of destruction.
The fifth wore purple armor and towered like a giant—Galactus, the World Devourer.
Of course, these were not their true forms—only manifestations created for the understanding of lower beings, and shaped according to their own preferences.
Even Galactus, who had a physical form and wasn't an abstract cosmic concept, was currently not showing his true body.
Next to him floated a small silver figure—Silver Surfer, his faithful herald, gliding silently on his silver board.
