Stealing The Crazy Yandere Lovers-Chapter 46: Stories from Michelle
With occasional customers coming in to buy groceries, my mind was slowly occupied with work, and I forgot about the setback of being blocked by Asuna.
I brushed it off as some trivial matter.
"Thank you, Miss!"
"Hope you visit again."
After bowing to my last customer, it was almost 5 pm.
The time for my shift was almost over.
Just when the clock struck 5, within 5 minutes, Boss Lady Michelle, came downstairs.
The building was about three floors tall. On the ground floor was the grocery store, and on the first and second floors lived Michelle and her brother, respectively.
"Okay, your shift’s time’s up. I will take over now."
Her voice was relaxed, her expressions full of leisure as she had just woken up from a good afternoon nap.
"By the way how was the first day at work?"
"The store only stays open from 1 pm to 9 pm, you brat must have a lot of free time, why not just stay here and do double shifts from 1 to 9?"
"I will double the current salary."
Michelle’s face was much better than before, she definitely took some good rest.
Although the offer of doing double shifts from 1 to 9 made me greedy, who doesn’t like some extra money, I remembered this was a city with more than 100 supernatural creatures roaming freely once the sun sets.
It was too risky to travel at such a late hour on the way back home.
My current fake identity seemed to be a member of the Fallen Angel Group, the supposedly weakest faction.
Also, if my faction found out that I no longer have any Fallen Angel Bloodline in my body and am just a human, God knows what will happen!
In case I met someone who held a grudge or mistakenly hurt the ego of any supernatural person, the risk would be too big.
Better just go home early and lock the doors.
"Miss, I am sorry."
"Even though I am tempted by your proposal, I have a fixed schedule and can’t continue to work here after 5 pm."
I spoke dejectedly.
The image I gave off was of a saddened employee, who was bound by his circumstances.
It was not that I wanted to refuse you, boss! It’s that I am helpless!
"I don’t think a brat like you will study after going home early, youngsters like you love to indulge in online gaming or late-night crooked activities."
-Michelle snorted, it was clear she was dissatisfied with my answer.
"Madam, I had a question in my mind!"
"What?"
"The store’s sales are good, but why does the store only stay open from 1 to 9 pm? I suggest hiring another guy and opening it the whole night 24 hours, the income will surely be good."
"And..."
Before I could advise more.
"STOP!"
I was immediately halted by her yelling.
"Don’t you dare think about it."
"9 pm is already the limit, don’t you know the stories here?"
Like a cat stepped on her tail, Michelle flicked and jumped back in protest.
"What stories?"
Did I miss some important detail?
Michelle’s face became conflicted, but she finally answered after a pause.
"In this city, if a store dares to stay open after 9 pm, the employees who are working there mysteriously vanish the very next morning."
"At first, I thought these were empty stories."
"But since last month the incidents have increased considerably."
"The best example is the book shop next street that used to stay open 24 hours."
"A week before, the bodies of the boss and his clerk were found near an empty gutter."
Michelle was scared as she told me the entire ordeal.
"If such incidents can happen at night, why can’t they happen during the day?"
Michelle continued to express her thoughts.
"That’s why I wanted someone to stay here with me, you know right? Having a young guy like you downstairs makes me a bit confident, as for my elder brother, he is useless, drinking outside and always coming back home late at night."
"I have told him countless times the situation isn’t good outside these days, but he just tells me you are imagining things."
Michelle’s earlier comfortable face distorted into a shade of gloom.
Her worry for her brother was genuine.
"So you won’t work after 5 p.m.?"
There was a pleading in Michelle’s tone.
The answer was a direct no!
If earlier the worries were superstitious, now I was dead sure.
Even if you give me a million, I won’t work after 5.
Dead bodies have already been found, at this point, the police should just declare an emergency.
"I am sorry Miss, I will take my leave now."
"We will meet again tomorrow."
"And thanks for all this information, as someone new to the city it helped me a lot!"
There was sincere gratitude in my voice.
"Okay, you also take care."
Michelle could only helplessly sigh.
After coming out of the shop, I thought quickly.
"No wonder her face was so rosy after she took a comfortable sleep with me on the ground floor guarding against any potential adversary."
"Working alone these days, she must be scared and under a lot of stress, that’s why she thought of hiring someone to relieve some of her worry."
After figuring out the situation with Michelle, my brows loosened a little.
"Damn, it’s all because of the damn rule of the country- You will be put in jail if you work anywhere before graduating."
It was this rule set by the country that was holding me back.
Otherwise, I would have skipped school and instead opened my own company.
It’s not like I haven’t tried.
In my second year after transmigration, I indeed tried to anonymously open a food company, but when the regulatory officials visited my place and demanded my graduation certificate, I was almost certain to be put under bars as a minor.
"Had my old dean from the orphanage not come forward and desperately pleaded for me saying he would definitely graduate and become a good citizen, I would have certainly rotted in some jail cell."
The dark memories after crossing over were vivid in my head.
If it had been caught it would have been a shame on the name of a transmigrator from Earth.
