Stranger Danger-Chapter 1830: Earthbearing Dragon Turtle
“The breeze is still, the waves are quiet. The sky is clear, the earth is tranquil. A calm, peaceful environment has its own beauty.”
His hands clasped behind his back, and his clothes fluttering against the calming sea breeze, the Chief Libationist said gently yet meaningfully, “Orderless chaos may be unusual and wonderful, but it is also something no living being can endure for long. And who knows, now that peace and order has been restored, perhaps a greater, more welcoming scenery will be born from this?”
They were still speaking when a golden ray of sunlight pierced through the gaps between a thick, dark cloud and spilled onto the ocean.
The column of light was neither strong nor bright, but it warmed the heart like nothing the Sages had felt since arriving at this place. It chased away the doom and gloom of Primal Chaos Ocean and the final wisp of darkness in their hearts as well. It was a light full of indescribable comfort... and hope.
Basking in the sunlight, the rigid lines on the Chief Libationist’s face softened, “This weather is perfect. Let us meet with an old turtle while the sun is still bright. Let us slay the last Evil and return peace to humanity once and for all!”
“Well said! Slay the Evil, return peace to humanity!” Encouraged, the Old Heavenly Master let out a bark of laughter and burned with fighting spirit. “Let’s go!”
“Lets!”
Everyone echoed in agreement and exploded toward the horizon in unison. They were all charging down the direction where the last Evil lay!
More columns of sunlight pierced through the dark clouds above, dragging out the Sages’ shadows and illuminating the fading ripples of their outburst. It also heralded the arrival of the final battle.
......
The group did not rest or take a pitstop after leaving the Primal Chaos Ocean. Instead, they flew east all the way to the Sky Beyond Sky where the Earthbearing Dragon Turtle was sealed.
Just like the Mountain Beyond Mountain, the Sky Beyond Sky did not technically exist in the human world. It was an independent space the Earthly Sovereign had created specifically for the purpose of suppressing the Earthbearing Dragon Turtle. Therefore, they must locate the Sky Beyond Sky first before they could slay the Evil.
Ye Qing, the Chief Libationist and Feng Qingyou were still discussing how to find the Sky Beyond Sky when suddenly, something unexpected happened.
Rumble...
A rumble that wasn’t particularly loud, but contained a strange, thunderous power boomed in the air. Then, a flash of lightning turned into a lifelike bird in the sky.
The bird was composed purely of purple thunder. It was shaped like a messenger pigeon. When it flapped its wings, thin arcs of lightning leaped across its feathers and crackled softly in the air. One could even smell a hint of burning.
The thunderous messenger pigeon ignored the wind and the waves and flew straight toward the Old Heavenly Master. It moved as quick as lightning.
Expression growing a little serious, the Old Heavenly Master held out his hand for the thunderous messenger pigeon. It obediently landed on his palm and did not harm the old man in the slightest.
A while later, the Old Heavenly Master’s eyes twitched, and he gently clenched his fingers.
Pop!
The thunderous messenger pigeon exploded into a ball of dazzling thunder, and a loud and urgent-sounding voice erupted, “Master! A day ago, a giant crack suddenly appeared in the sky of the Eastern Shore, and the deafening roars of what sounds like a dragon or a turtle could be heard from within! Later, a terrible force drew in the thirty six islands of the Eastern Sea including their denizens of tens of thousands! This disciple strongly suspects that it is the doing of the Earthbearing Dragon Turtle! Please return as soon as you can!”
The message ended there, and the thunder wreathing his palm disappeared without a trace.
The Old Heavenly Master slowly opened his eyes, and his gaze looked sharp and serious. “Everyone it looks like... we do not need to search for the Sky Beyond Sky any longer. The old turtle has emerged of its own accord.”
The Dragon Subjugating Zen Master paled as he mouthed a Buddhist chant. His normally kind and benevolent expression was now covered in anger and pity. “That animal hasn’t fully broken free yet, and already it devoured so many lives and committed such an atrocity! It truly deserves a million deaths!”
Feng Qingyou’s cool eyes flashed with a hint of severity as well. “The Earthbearing Dragon Turtle... broke free from the Earthly Sovereign’s seal on its own? It looks like it is stronger than we expected.”
“Islands devoured, thousands slaughtered...” Ye Qing’s eyes abruptly turned ice cold, and terrible killing intent oozed out of his person. “There is no time. We must reach the Earthbearing Dragon Turtle and slay it while it is still partially trapped by the Earthly Sovereign’s seal and before it creates a greater tragedy!”
“You are totally right!”
“Evil must be eradicated thoroughly!”
“Every second is precious!”
His fellow Sages agreed in unison and took off toward the Eastern Sea without any more delays.
......
The skies of the Eastern Shore were normally clear and blue like a mirror. That was no longer the case.
The sky was currently marred by a terrible, pitch black scar that looked like it had been forced open by a giant, invisible hand. It was over hundreds of kilometers long and looked bottomless. Grayish streams of Primal Chaos were leaking out of the edges and warping the surrounding space.
A terrible pulling force was coming from the gap and creating a terrible storm. The wind howled like crazy, and blue sea water was pouring madly into the gap as grayish black tornados.
Even worse, the once vibrant islands in the area and countless dots of light representing humans, animals, fishes, and all other lives were being ripped out of the sea surface like fragile toys and drawn into the gap. One could vaguely hear their cries of despair before they were mercilessly consumed by the gap.
The sea region below the gap should have been filled by many islands and countless more lives. Now, only the scars on the earth and the churning, murky waves remained.
As if that wasn’t enough, the gap was slowly but surely growing in size. This allowed it to consume even more space and objects than it already had.
This was the kind of apocalyptic scene Ye Qing’s group saw the moment they arrived. Everyone’s face darkened as a matter of course.
They did not hesitate. While resisting the mad wind and even madder pulling force, they flew straight toward the all-consuming gap.
The closer they got to the gap, the worse the pulling force became. It felt like it would pull even their souls into it.
At the same time, low and violent roars were constantly rumbling out of the gap like thunderclaps.
There were two types of roars. The first one was despairing and tyrannical like a dragon’s, and the other was low yet violent like a turtle’s!
The two dramatically different roars combined into a terrible sound wave that could shake heaven and earth. It struck their eardrums and minds again and again and threatened to shatter even the world to pieces.
Through the twisted light and shadows and rampaging air currents, the Sages could vaguely see many rows of gigantic and circular “stone pillars” behind the gap. They were so long they plunged into the clouds.
The “stone pillars” were deathly white and coarse. However, they were also glowing like some sort of jadeite.
What really caused their scalps to crawl was the fact that the “stone pillars” were covered in blood and gore. There were even undigested islands, corpses and carcasses stuck on the stone pillars!
At the same time, their nostrils were filled with a suffocating amount of rot and decay.
It wasn’t until they flew closer that they finally realized what the “stone pillars” were. As it turned out, they weren’t stone pillars at all. They were teeth!
Rows and rows of teeth so massive that it boggled the mind!
Each tooth was as tall and treacherous as a mountain. Gnarly and white, they formed a “mountain range” that spanned over dozens of kilometers.
There was no doubt about it. These teeth belonged to the Earthbearing Dragon Turtle.
If the teeth alone were this massive, then how big was the Earthbearing Dragon Turtle’s mouth? Its body?
They could scarcely imagine it.
