It has been on his mind for some time now. Why was he fighting?

His mother was dead already. Yes, Richard gave a remedy to heal her, but considering he is a Demon too, shouldn't Ethan consider it like he took back what he extended? After all, the Headless was a comrade of the Elemental Supreme.

Then why was he so angry? Why was he fighting in the first place?

Did he want to eradicate all the evil because he was the emissary of Light? No, he never considered himself anything more than a mere human. Not before nor after regaining his memories of his last life.

Then why was he fighting?

Because he wanted to get revenge on someone? No. Rather, if he won this war, which he most likely would, then he would lose two people who were dear to his heart.

First was the man who extended a helping hand to the loser Ethan and then was the girl who was devoted herself to him during both lives—Elizabeth. His Eli.

She demanded nothing but his presence in her life. She did her best to keep him away from this whole mess, even considering running away with him.

However, fate was not on their side and here he was, standing at the border where he could decide the fate of everyone's life.

If he won today, things would never be like before. He would lose those few people he cared for and he might regret following the path of a puppet and doing the bidding of those beings whom Ethan despises.

Yes, Ethan dislikes the Goddesses.

In his last itinerary, he never was told about the whole story that caused discord between the Death God and the five pillars of Light. He was just told and forced to believe that the light was right and darkness needed to be abolished.

However, now, he was aware of everything.

It was not a fight between good and evil or right or wrong.

It was a personal battle between the two sides.

One was reasonable and one was not.

One had a goal and a balance to maintain, and the other just wanted to keep monopolizing the domain they were granted.

One wants to maintain peace and allow freedom, while the other just wants to follow their principle and continue to believe in supremacy.

One sees humans as humans while the other sees them as mere pawns who can only worship them.

Ethan didn't even need to think to consider which side he should stand on.

His mother always said to always listen to his heart even if the world was against his decision.

And today, Ethan decided to follow his mother's advice.

The heart which once was inside Ethan's body, was now beating in his hand.

Ethan sat there with a smile on his face.

Richard has released the form which was taking away his body and soul.

He stared at the silver-haired boy who did something that Richard could have never expected.

A few seconds passed, and the question Richard held in his mind, was asked by someone else, "WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!"

A crying Eleanor appeared before them, bawling and looking pale in horror.

She knelt beside Ethan and couldn't even bring herself to look at his faintly beating heart.

Soon the six figures took position around the trio, before Eleanor begged, "Please, save him!"

Averis had a frown on her pristine face, when she said, "We cannot interfere with the mortal world, but as our apostle, we can revive him…if only he stops resisting us."

Eleanor's tear-stricken face turned toward Ethan before she begged, "Please, Ethan, don't do this…nothing is more important than your life. E-Everything we did…this whole time reversal was because we wanted to save you. Okay, y-you don't care about me but Elizabeth and Nora…you can't leave them behind…so, please."

Ethan smiled as he turned to the violet-haired. He hated her for several reasons. However, even his hatred couldn't deny the fact that this woman loved him dearly.

Bringing his hand to rest on her head, he calmed down the girl first, before he said, "If I live, they won't let me stop until I win this war for them…and trust me, all I would feel after that is guilt and self-disgust."

"B-But you lost! Zulcriz won! Why you must kill yourself?"

Ethan smiled at the silly girl before informing her, "You have been in their contact more than me so you should know better that unless I kill myself here and let Richard defeat me…they will continue to force me to battle. They would not stop until I defeated Richard even if it cost my soul. You should know Eleanor, that these beings care about nothing but themselves."

Eleanor took a deep breath that didn't contain her sob.

This was the first time for Richard to see the girl crying like this.

Even though Richard wanted to save Ethan here, he couldn't.

There was a lot on the line and between Ethan and his family, his comrades, his daughter…he didn't even have to think whom he would choose.

Eleanor kept looking at Veris, a clear plea in her eyes. Everything she did until now…was to keep him safe…and now that everything seemed to be heading in the direction she envisioned…Ethan was killing himself.

Without a single wrinkle on his face, Ethan turned toward Richard before voicing, "Please do me a favor and kill me, Sir Richard. This would be the last time I'd be asking a favor from you."

Richard's hold around his trident stiffened as he glanced at Zulcriz…however, the Death God had an expression that said that he had left the decision in his hands.

Richard gritted his teeth. He cannot hesitate now…everything he fought for…every being he loves is at risk here.

Raising his trident he took a step forward.

Eleanor bowed before Richard, holding his foot, as she said, "P-Pl-Please Richard…p-please don't kill him…" He didn't know that one day, Eleanor's sobs would bother him so much.

However, Richard didn't stop until he was before Ethan and raised his trident.

He looked in his eyes for a moment, before faintly whispering,

"Goodbye, my friend-" Richard was about to stab Etha when suddenly, a blinding light surrounded all of them.

"Like seriously, hun? You were going to let him do it?" A man suddenly landed on the surface and stood before the eldest Goddess with his hand encircled around Veris.

The eldest Goddess' cheeks were red and she barely retained her stoic face as she averted her eyes.

Eleanor and Richard had a similar reaction when they saw the man who appeared out of nowhere.

"ETHAN?!"
