Years of his experience in using the M4 carbine, even if artificial, came into use. As he pressed the trigger, aiming the crosshair of his ironsight slightly above the tentacles.

The bullets flew out of the barrel, creating flashes in the dark of the night.

Flying through the air they rained upon the tentacles of the monster, but that did almost little to no damage due to the hardened flesh on it.

Sparks burst out as the bullets collided with the tentacles.

Still, despite not delivering any damage it was enough to throw off the monster and delay its attack on Luna.

"Come on, don't sleep on me now. No way I'm handling this shit alone," Allen mumbled to himself as he took steps forward toward the monster while continuing the fire.

Luna still hadn't gotten back into her senses and was lying defenselessly on the ground. There was a limit on how much he could delay the monster from this distance.

As the bullets continued hitting its hardened tentacles the monster seemed mildly bothered by it, as indicated by its sudden jolting of the tentacles.

However, it didn't seem to pay much attention to it. After about thirty seconds it outright ignored the bullets and pointed its tentacles again toward Luna.

They shot straight toward her, with their tips slimming down and creating a sharp, pointed end. Though before it could hit her Luna vanished from her place and was replaced by Lament.

The sword quickly straightened itself as it levitated in the air, managing just in time before the tentacles struck its blade sending off sparks with both the things scraping past each other.

Seeing that Allen put his finger off the trigger to avoid accidentally catching Luna into the fire while his eyes searched relentlessly to spot where she was. And he soon found her with much difficulty.

She was standing at the distance of about ten meters from the monster, seemingly out of breath with her continuous huffing. Strands of her hair falling over her forehead and near the eyes that were locked onto the monster.

A single attack had rendered all their effort worthless. She was now out of range and had taken quite significant damage and the monster tentacles were now free, allowing it to defend itself against Allen's bullets.

Hmm, this might actually be pretty bad Allen thought to himself.

With a firm grip on his M4 he tried to get a few more shots in but the monster effortlessly brushed them away with a wave of its tentacles.

She looks a little out of it, I'm guessing it's due to that vibration or noise or whatever it was. Presuming that getting this thing into the same stalemate is gonna be impossible now, what are the options left for me?

Allen's mind raced as he glanced at the scene of Luna and the monster through his green tinted goggles. His eyes scanning through the area trying to pick up the finest of the detail he could use against the monster.

Though just as he was beginning to get a sense of himself back the monster's neck stretched again and its vertically slit mouth opened, letting out another unheard yet painfully loud screeching sensation.

Allen dropped the gun from his hands and covered his ears as tight as he could, with the gun disappearing back into his inventory before it hit the ground.

"Agggghhhh!" he groaned as his teeth chipped against each other and his brain felt like it was being pierced by a thousand fine needles.

Luna was in no different state. Covering her ears she tried to block the "noise" but it barely helped, just like before she was hit with the sharper end of the stick due to being much closer to the monster.

Although this time her behaviour seemed a little different. With her eyes open fiercely she was staring at the monster as she felt the crushing weight of the sound pressing her into the dirt. She knew she couldn't move her body against this pressure but she still had her mind.

She focused all her remaining willpower on the golden blade lying in the dust and stared at it until her vision blurred.

Despite her head feeling like it was going to explode, she was able to send a single command to her weapon.

The golden sword responded to her call. It rose shakily from the blood-stained ground and hovered in the air as it hummed with a faint light.

Then it snapped into motion and shot forward like a golden bullet across the dark field. The monster was still screaming with its deformed mouth wide open. It didn't see the blade coming.

Lament flew straight into the vertical slit of the monster's new mouth.

It slammed deep inside the wet, red throat. It didn't stop there, and the blade began to spin violently inside the flesh.

It drilled into the monster from the inside out.

Thick blood bubbled up from the corners of the monster's mouth and dripped down its elongated neck in thick streams.

The terrible and bone-rattling scream faltered. The vibration didn't stop completely but the intensity dropped significantly and the crushing weight in the air lifted just enough to breathe.

Allen, who had been watching all this unfold, felt the change immediately. The invisible hand pressing him into the dirt loosened its grip and he gasped for air and shook his head to clear the dizziness.

He didn't waste the opportunity.

He struggled but managed to get himself to focus a little. He raised his hands and the M4 Carbine materialized instantly.

The cold metal felt good in his grip. He didn't wait for a second as he squeezed the trigger and held it down.

A tongue of fire burst from the barrel of the rifle and the night was filled with the deafening roar of the gun. A rain of hot metal slammed into the monster.

This time there was no resistance and it didn't move to block the bullets. It just stood there and took the full force of the attack.

The spray of 5.56mm bullets went on without a pause. They hammered into the monster's flesh with brutal efficiency. The impact was horrifying to watch.

Chunks of meat and skin flew into the air with every hit. It looked like someone was taking a giant cheese grater and rubbing it against the monster's body.

The skin was ripped away and the muscle underneath was shredded into pulp as pieces of the creature sloughed off and fell to the ground.

Gaining somewhat more clarity of mind Allen adjusted his aim and focused the stream of fire on the gaping hole in the chest.

He targeted the spot where the tentacles emerged. He poured every last bullet into that weak point. The area had taken too much damage already and the structural integrity of the flesh finally failed.

The chest cavity imploded on itself with a wet and sickening crunch.

Finally the intense screeching vibrations stopped and Allen could take a breath of relief.

"Fucking hell…" he sighed, putting his finger off the trigger.

Soon after he lost his balance and fell on his knees, his pants getting soaked with the muddy soil created with the blood of the fallen soldiers.

The half blood monster, or rather Randolf, had completely stopped moving at this point. Allen stared at it for a few seconds more, still keeping his guard up and holding his gun with both his arms.

Then the monster's body swung back and forth for a second before tumbling loudly to the ground.

That was it. That thing was finally dead. He hoped it was.

Allen let go of the gun and it disappeared back into his armory, the tension his muscles had been holding all this time was released and his body relaxed a bit.

Since the threat was now gone the adrenaline being pumped into his body slowed down, and he now became more aware of the condition he was in.

He looked at his hands and saw that his palms were stained with blood.

The blood of the soldiers? No, I never touched the ground. Then…

He slowly moved his hand to the side of his head and felt up the region around his ears. It was wet.

He looked back at his fingers and as expected, there was fresh blood on it.

Ah shit…

His ears were bleeding.

Well, that explains this annoying ringing sound I'm hearing since then.

He looked forward and saw Luna walking toward him while stumbling on her feet occasionally. She was in a rugged condition too.

From the movements of her mouth he could make out the fact that she was speaking something, or rather screaming loudly while waving at him.

Is she…saying something to me? Shit I can't hear. This ringing noise is too loud.

He tried to speak back or at least raise his hand to let her know that he was fine, but it was futile. He couldn't. His body was too worn out.

Still, he tried to stand up and then realized his sense of balance was all messed up. Halfway through his legs failed him and he stumbled down to the ground.

The dark night sky was now in view, albeit the fact that it was green due to his nightvision goggles. He was still conscious but he couldn't really move his body.

As he lay there on the ground with his body on the muddy and blood stained ground, he waited for Luna to reach him or the monster to suddenly come to life and kill both of them.

However, his fears were soon calmed as a message appeared right before his eyes.
