Chapter 100: Give Me Back My Wife! (4)

"So... Alex... mind explaining the whole situation?" the lead hunter asked while holding the door of the car trunk, revealing a disoriented Scarlet who was now sitting up.

A loud banging sound could have been heard from the car after Luciel left, making the hunter check it out.

He felt speechless after seeing who the group decided to put in there.

"Well, umm... You see-" Alex was frantically looking around, twirling his index finger around one another.

’Great, make the whole situation worse,’ Melisa rolled her eyes, giving Alex a good smack at the back of his head.

"Get it together man," She whispered into his ear, crossing her arms, wanting to get this over with.

The hunter wasn’t impressed with the two in front of him. He demanded answers and he wanted them now.

"I’m still waiting," his tone sounded menacing, getting ready to lock them all up the moment they would make a wrong move.

With Alex trembling in his boots, refusing to say a word, Melisa took a step forward, letting out a heavy sigh.

"There was a small accident during our trip," she started to explain the situation in the shortest possible way.

She excluded all the details about what happened to Scarlet and instead, she jumped straight toward the part where she ended up inside the truck.

While Melisa was giving a brief explanation, Scarlet made sure to listen to what she had to say while looking around, noticing two things.

The first was that they had returned from the forest, and the second one was that one person was missing.

She groaned as she placed her hand on the forehead. Her head was throbbing with pain.

Luciel did a number on her back then, it was way worse than when Kai bit her.

"Hey, don’t strain yourself too much, okay?" The head hunter quickly went to support Scarlet who stood up but got pushed away.

He was afraid of her falling onto the cold, dirty ground since she was wobbly on her feet.

"Where’s Luciel?" Scarlet finally asked, supporting herself by holding onto the car. She had a score to settle with him.

Her cold gaze pierced through Alex’s soul, who was trying to avoid eye contact with her. A specific weight inside his chest prevented him from looking at her.

Seeing how Alex was fidgeting in one place, Melisa sighed, placing her hand on her forehead, wondering how and why Luciel kept him by his side all this time.

"Helen hadn’t been seen for a day, Luciel went ahead to check on her," Melisa answered, approaching the car to take out unconscious Kai, furrowing her eyebrows.

"That’s odd indeed..." Scarlet muttered under her breath, scratching her chin while leaning against the car.

"We should go after Luciel, I have a bad feeling about this..." She added with mixed feelings on top of this all. Luciel wasn’t her concern, he could drop dead for all she cared.

Scarlet was more concerned about Helen. Not everyone liked Luciel, especially now, and his wife received some hate comments after the news spread that she still supported her husband.

Wherever Luciel went, Scarlet was sure that she would find her as well.

"We will search for them, but you Scarlet are ordered to rest," the head hunter butted in, planning to stop her from going on another adventure. She was pale as a ghost and needed rest.

"I’ll be fine," Scarlet glared at the man from the corner of her eye, warning him not to underestimate her. She would not go down so easily just from one measly vampire bite.

She straightened her back and started to walk forward, with her fist clenched, "Let’s get inspected for any possible zombie infection. The sooner we go, the faster we will find the two."

They weren’t exposed to any fights against the zombies, but she was always the one to follow rules and protocols, and strict checkups like this were a must.

Alex and Melisa exchanged some looks after watching Scarlet marching past them, but once she stumbled and looked like she was about to fall, Alex rushed towards her.

"Hey, don’t push yourself," he said to her, placing her hand around his shoulders.

Alex desired to help her, especially since he had the honor to experience firsthand how it felt like when a specific vampire decided to have a feast on his blood.

The venom was the least of his problems, but the symptoms of blood loss were the worst.

"There’s no time for rest," Scarlet replied, pulling her arm away from Alex before continuing to walk.

Alex sighed as he stared into her back, there was nothing he could do. Scarlet won’t be able to put on the act for long anyway. Everyone could see that she was feeling unwell.

The group had walked through a grandiose church gate.

They had entered into a giant hall first where a priest would preach about the forces inside a divine realm, but today, the group could see innocent people, with nowhere else to go, kneeling on the carpet, praying for salvation.

Melisa’s expression hadn’t changed even once as she walked behind those humans, they were the ones that abounded her and Kai when they were just kids.

The hunters on the other hand kept staring at the mass with sorrowful expressions. They could feel their pain as their own.

They kept telling to the people that everything would be fine, and that they would protect them, but in truth, they were barely holding on.

Following a specific path, being covered with a red rug, they went downstairs, straight into the shelter where one could see more people kneeling right next to each other. They were squeezed next to each other like sardines in a can.

Alex clicked with his tongue in disapproval, these weren’t the conditions in which humans were supposed to live in, but there was no helping it, unfortunately, at least they were still alive.

Without wasting any time, the group found themselves in front of the nurse’s office.
