Chapter 68: [68] Don’t eat that

The next day was meant to be the confluence, but Elrion received news that it had been postponed.

’They are probably trying to patch up their plans now.’

After his breathtaking display yesterday, Eliron had more than cemented his place in the hearts of the elves.

Those of them who had doubts about him had come to fully accept him and even some of the chiefs were now openly showing their admiration.

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but now, Eliron was sure that statement applied to the elves as well.

Normally, he would have opposed the date change, but it was not in his power to decide when the confluence would take place.

That was the exclusive right of the chiefs.

So Eliron returned to what he had been doing before the hunt... building a house.

He was back in the spot where he had chopped down countless trees, and for a few hours, he had been organising them based on their size and uses.

Not too far away from him, Yennefer was chewing on a large, colorful mushroom as she watched him.

"How long will it take to finish this house?" She asked while chewing.

"It depends, normally it should take about a week if I work fast. But I’m thinking of making it bigger so that I can add a bathroom and toilet."

Yennefer’s face brightened. "Yesh! We really... nom nom... need those... nom... rooms!"

She swallowed then waved her hand in the air as she spoke. "Do you know how disgusting the toilets here are?"

Eliron understood her complaints since he was also experiencing it first hand.

The wood elves had not created the water closet, or any sort of decent toilet.

They were too busy trying to survive to be concerned about where they went number two.

"I want a luxury bed too! Ouuu, and an indoor kitchen!" She licked a pink fluid from her lips.

Eliron frowned. "Should you really be eating that?"

"Of course." Yennefer said between bites of the colorful mushroom. "Artie taught me how to identify them on our way back."

She raised the mushroom to light. "When it’s yellow and pink then it’s gonna be sweet, but when it’s red and bleached, then thou shall not eat."

Then she paused. "Or was it the other way around?" Yennefer shook her head. "Who cares even?"

She stuffed the last one into her mouth and grabbed another mushroom.

Eliron sighed. "Do as you please, just don’t die."

He returned to where he kept the trees and began to take their measurements, after which he sawed a few of them to the right shapes.

Whenever he was done with a log, he would place it in the infinity pouch, and he continued this way for about an hour.

By then, his body was glistened with sweat, and his breaths had become a little heavier, but he was still filled with energy.

’It looks like my stamina has improved.’ He smiled.

"Yen, how big do you think the toilet should be?" He asked while sawing another tree.

"..."

"Yen?"

Silence...

Eliron turned in her direction, then immediately jumped to his feet, racing towards her.

"Yennefer?!"

One of the mushrooms was lying on the floor beside her, the pink liquid looking more morbid than it should have.

There were butterflies dancing around her face, and she was mumbling strange words to herself.

Eliron held her chin and raised her gaze to meet his. Her body was very hot and her face was blushed pink all the way up to her ears.

Yennefer’s bright golden eyes were unfocused, and she had a wide grin on her face.

’Are these mushrooms psychoactive?’

He grabbed the mushroom and closely observed the item. It had a strange sweet scent and the juice coming out of the mushroom was wrong in all sorts of ways.

Yennefer sleepishly reached for the mushroom and Eliron drew his arm back.

"C’mon... j-just one b...ite." Her words were slurred as she repeatedly tried to grab it.

Eliron shook his head. "This is the last time I let you eat mushrooms."

He tossed it far out of sight and grabbed her arm, pulling her to her feet.

"W—woah!" Yennefer exclaimed. "Hehehe... do it again, do it again!"

Then she suddenly stopped talking, her body wobbling from side to side.

"Yen, are you alright?" Eliron held her hand to stop her from falling.

"D-dizzy..." was all she managed to say before she doubled over, and let the rainbows out of her gut.

Eliron sighed deeply while massaging his temple. "This is going to be a long day..."

He gave Yennefer his water skin and some mint to wash her mouth, until he was sure every last bit of you know what was gone.

"Alright, wait for me here alright?" Eliron asked, tapping her shoulder.

"We’ll go home early. Hopefully, Artie will know how to cure you."

Yennefer nodded like a child and gave him a thumbs up. "Wait here, yes!"

Eliron then said, "I just need to get a few things..."

He should have known that telling Yen to sit still was like telling a bird to walk.

The moment he took a step towards the wood he had cut, Yennefer levitated from the floor and began following him.

"I said wait for me." He tried to grab her but she shot up high into the air.

She giggled as she flew from place to place, racing through the sky like a loose chicken, hitting trees only to giggle more loudly.

Eliron reached out to grab her, but she would fly above, taunting him.

"Yennefer, get down this instant! You’re going to hurt yourself!"

"Too slow, too slow! Fly up and meet me, little elf."

’Who is she calling a little elf??’

The drugged angel then slammed into a particularly large tree and fell out of the sky.

’Shit!’ Eliron panicked.

He raced towards her, barely managing to get there on time as she fell atop him, pinning him to the floor.

He groaned in pain, as he blinked out the dirt from his vision.

Yennefer was laughing. "Nice catch." She blurted out.

Eliron glared at her. "What am I going to do with you?"

She smiled and then raised her body slightly, trapping Eliron between her legs as she stared into his eyes.

He could feel her body pressed against his, she was surprisingly soft, and although he would never admit it, it was a rather comfortable position.

Yen’s cheeks were still blushed red, but now, the fogginess in her eyes were slowly disappearing— her golden Iris gleaming in the morning sunlight.

She smiled then slowly began drawing circles on his chest.

"Why don’t you keep me forever?" She whispered, her voice low.

For a quarter of a second, Eliron’s heart skipped a beat.

Although he didn’t know the motive behind her words, he was sure it meant far more than she let on.

He breathed out tiredly. "I’m not letting you go anytime soon. You owe me for bringing you into this world, remember?"

"Unfortunately for me, we are going to spend a veryy long time together."

Something flashed in Yennefer’s eyes, and then she smiled, her silver hair falling past her face like strands of silk.

When they caught the sunlight, they shone with an ethereal glow, as though the light was encased within them.

Eliron’s eyes widened ever so slightly.

While Yennefer smiled;

"Mmm, that is just..."

Her eyes began to close as she fell, resting her head comfortably on his chest, as though she owned it.

"...perfect."
