The General's Wife Wants to Leave-Chapter 151: Fixing the blanket
Chapter 151: Fixing the blanket
Canillas let the memories he had with the sleeping lady flow through his mind while letting his fingers feel the softness of her skin as they traced the contour of her face. It was as if he wanted to remember it even when he closed his eyes.
From her forehead, her thick eyebrows, down to her straight nose, Canillas traced them all with his fingertips, perceiving the softness that touched them for the first time since he met her in person.
His action brought a concern to his mind that he really could not let her sleep unattended when they were outside their home, based on the fact that she could not feel anything in her sleep.
If he looked back at their moment sharing a bed together in the mountain, aside from what he noticed in the carriage, she also went into a deep sleep, not once awake when the bed shook as he made a move or any noise formed when he flared the log of wood in the fireplace.
As Canillas was thinking about that concern and memory in his mind, his hand hanged in the midair, right above the supple, rosy lips that had enchanted him and had him gather all his might to suppress a certain intention that surged inside him every time his gaze fell on it.
Closing his eyes while taking a deep breath, Canillas reminded himself that it was not the time yet. He also could not act like a stranger would probably do to her when she was defenseless.
With that incantation that he chanted in his mind, Canillas opened his eyes and retreated his hand to be brought upward to softly stroke the soft, fragrant hair of his sleeping wife.
Canillas really wanted to spoil the warm-hearted lady who had gripped his heart with her name.
Regardless of whether she was a de Lara or von Rodega, her name had always pulled him towards her, and he did not want to question why that happened anymore.
He only wanted to think that perhaps it was how the universe told him that she was his other half. And Canillas smiled at the thought, as he felt more serene with that in mind.
Following the desire of his serene heart, Canillas leaned down to break any boundary his wife had boldly drawn between them.
Closing his eyes, Canillas pressed his lips on Joanna’s forehead, and he let his lips stay there for eight beats of his heart.
He wanted to explore more, but he knew it was the limit of his audacity to cross the border between them. If he did more than what he had done, it would indeed be a disaster for his relationship with her, as he could not reverse anything that was irreversible.
Calming his raging breath, Canillas pulled his lips away from the soft, smooth skin that he adored and brought his forehead to lean on her forehead, where his lips had previously rested.
It was enough to be like this. It was still counted as progress after all. It was Canillas’ thought before giving Joanna another kiss on her forehead.
Fixing the blanket, Canillas brought Joanna close to his body as he hugged her tightly under the white, thick blanket.
He did not need the flame from the burning wood to warm her, as he would provide warmth to her when the chance bestowed upon him.
He, of course, wanted her to get used to it from that moment on, but he knew very well how persistently his wife would prevent him from being close to her. Hence, he would not let go of this precious moment, as he was also ready to bear the consequences of his action.
He was aware that she would be angry at him if she found out he had embraced her, touching her when she was sleeping. And it was not hard to guess, remembering how she spent no time making him sit to talk about the rules of not touching her when she found him holding her hand in the carriage.
But Canillas really showed no care about that request anymore, as he had never agreed to it. Because he knew very well that not touching her was indeed impossible. Hence, he gave no positive answer, and he was glad he chose to do so.
However, when he looked at her hands, a heavy sigh escaped his lips. He still did not want to break his word to that demand, as he had agreed to walk by that rule.
It was not hard to know that her hands were cold, as he felt that on her feet that touched his under the blanket. But he was certain that her hands would be warm anytime soon as they were positioned between their bodies.
As for her cold feet, Canillas wrapped them with his bigger feet, trying to produce quick warmth on that part of her body.
Tightening his embrace on Joanna, Canillas closed his eyes as he felt the swarming joy along with the indescribable feelings that emerged again in his heart.
After hugging her soft body the first time in the deep forest, he finally could embrace her again. However, different from what happened in the deep forest, there was no other desire but to protect her, giving her the warmth that her body asked for.
His heart was racing, like it always was whenever she was in proximity to him. But there was no other intention but to purely embrace her this time.
He just wanted to enjoy this peaceful moment and not be disturbed by any unnecessary desire that was useless because of the distance that still grew between them.
There would be time to do more than what they were doing once she completely opened her heart to let them seal their marriage bond.
Hence, Canillas just lay on the bed with Joanna in his arms, gently stroking her hair with his eyes closed.
In the serenity, when he still felt her feet cold, Canillas’ mind drifted to the season when she arrived at Archess. Fortunately, she lived there during spring and summer so that she did not encounter the cold season, especially when he was in absence.
But this time, as she would definitely return there to live for the rest of her life with him, he truly expected her to bear living there during the cold seasons. He would make sure to prepare more stocks of wood to warm their house and thick clothing to warm her body, as those were the certain things that could provide her warmth when she was still adamant about maintaining their distance, not allowing him to share his warmth with her.
With the thought in mind, in the cloak of serenity, he held his wife close in his arms, following her eyes back to rest and letting their dreams once again take center stage.
And that serene moment had passed. Canillas was now faced with a reality where he had to bear the consequences that he had already been aware would occur when his wife found him embracing her in her sleep.
However, Canillas refused to be accused of being a liar for something that he did not agree to begin with because he would never break his word for something to which he had agreed.
Therefore, Canillas had to clarify the misunderstanding, which hopefully could calm his upset wife, who did not stop pushing his chest away with her soft, delicate palms.
