The Greatest Village Doctor In The World-Chapter 19: Stewing Meat
Ling Feng had a good plan, but after chasing the rabbit for a while, he realized that it was too crafty. Not only was its speed astonishingly fast, but it also frequently took sharp turns, which made it impossible for him to catch with his current abilities!
After chasing for quite a while, he started to run out of steam and decided to give up the pursuit. Squatting down, he took deep breaths to catch his breath.
"You damn rabbit, just you wait. Once I get faster, I’ll come back and deal with you!" Ling Feng said indignantly.
No sooner had he finished speaking than he began to worry. Today he only caught twenty-three wild pheasants, and at a purchase price of four hundred yuan each, that only amounted to nine thousand yuan. Including what he had sold previously, he was still four thousand yuan short of the thirty thousand yuan he needed.
"If only I could catch ten more pheasants, but you sneaky things, where have you all hidden!" Ling Feng shouted loudly in frustration as he stood in the valley.
The echo drifted back and forth in the valley, but sadly, nothing responded to him.
The surrounding area was all mountains; the sun had already set behind them, and the light in the valley was gradually dimming. It looked like it would be dark soon.
Ling Feng had no choice but to prepare to head home and think of another way tomorrow.
But as he turned around, out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly caught a glimpse of something dark-red shining from a cliff not far to his left!
Stopping in his tracks, Ling Feng’s gaze shifted in that direction. But the view was obscured by weeds, and he couldn’t make out what it was.
Curious, he climbed up to get a closer look and was immediately stunned by what he saw!
There was a piece of wood as thick as an arm wedged between the rocks. It was shielded from the rain and snow by stones above, so it wasn’t eroded but extremely desiccated.
But that wasn’t the point; the point was that there was a Lingzhi mushroom growing on the piece of wood!
That dark-red he had seen was the Lingzhi!
Thanks to the Divine Dragon Art, with just one glance, Ling Feng knew that this petrified Lingzhi, with its patterns, must be at least a hundred years old!
"My goodness, why bother chasing pheasants when this is worth a fortune!"
Ling Feng was overjoyed and reached out to pick the Lingzhi, forgetting that such exquisite spiritual beings usually have something guarding them. Before his hand could touch the Lingzhi, a black shadow shot out from the crevice between the rocks!
If it had been before, Ling Feng would have definitely been caught off guard, but now, with his enhanced physique and reflexes, he managed to be quicker than his opponent’s speed and instantly withdrew his hand!
Taking a closer look at the creature, Ling Feng gasped in shock, "Good grief, this snake must have lived for over a decade, right?"
It was a thick, black snake with an arm-sized girth, a triangular head, and gleaming fangs that indicated it was venomous.
At that moment, half of its body was coiled around the Lingzhi, and it hissed menacingly at Ling Feng while flaunting its tongue in a threatening gesture.
Seeing this, Ling Feng couldn’t help but sneer, "Stop trying to scare people. Today, I’m determined to get that Lingzhi, let’s see who’s tougher!"
After saying that, he held his breath and slowly extended his hand!
Now it was all about speed, seeing who would subdue whom first.
Ling Feng didn’t have much confidence, but to get the Lingzhi and repay the debt, he had no choice but to take the risk.
As his hand approached the snake, its head abruptly lifted high, and Ling Feng’s heart raced in his throat. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Just as the snake’s head shot out like lightning, poised to bite him, Ling Feng’s wrist flicked to dodge its venomous fangs, and with a thud, he grabbed the crucial weakness of the snake, its vital spot just behind the head!
"Haha, let’s see how you compete with me now!"
Ling Feng held the snake’s vital spot and lifted it up, realizing it was at least one and a half meters long, heavy in his grasp, weighing at least twenty kilos!
"Ha, looks like I’ll have a feast tonight!"
After nodding in satisfaction, he immediately killed the venomous snake, threw its head to one side, and tossed the still-twitching body into the grass below the cliff to pick up on his way back.
Then Ling Feng squatted down and carefully extracted the piece of wood, broke off the useless parts, and only kept the small section with the Lingzhi growing on it before jumping down from the cliff.
The gloominess he felt before had long since dissipated. Ling Feng was now in a very good mood. With the snake in one hand, the Lingzhi in the other, and his pockets full of little pheasants chirping away, he felt like a hunter returning home with a full bounty!
After getting back to his tricycle, he hurried home before it got dark.
Having put everything away, Ling Feng sat down to skin the snake, set aside its gall, and then cleaned the rest of the organs. It didn’t take long for him to finish.
Then he started a fire to boil water, and half an hour later, a rich aroma of meat wafted from his house!
Eating snake was entirely commonplace for the people of Shiliu Village. Everyone, old and young, had tried it and knew well the delicious taste of snake meat.
Otherwise, Ling Feng wouldn’t have been able to handle it so adeptly. It was all thanks to the experience accumulated since childhood.
Remembering there were over ten pounds of snake meat in the pot, too much for him alone, Ling Feng took out his phone and called Li Yumei.
"Yu Mei, have you eaten yet?"
"Not yet. I just put the kid to bed. What’s up, Ling Feng?" Li Yumei asked.
"If you haven’t eaten, that’s perfect. I caught a big snake and just finished stewing it. Why don’t you come over and have some?" Ling Feng said.
Li Yumei hesitated a moment before responding, "Okay, sure."
After hanging up, Ling Feng lifted the lid to check on the pot, saw the chunks of snake meat tumbling in the thick white soup, and couldn’t help but swallow his saliva.
After adding some more spices, he closed the lid, turned to set the table, and waited for Li Yumei to arrive.
He had just finished when there was a knock at the door. He quickly went to open it with a smile, "That was quick!"
But when he opened the door, it was not Li Yumei standing there but Li Shiyun!
"Oh, Village Chief, what brings you here?" Ling Feng asked, somewhat surprised.
Li Yumei sniffed, "It smells so good, what delicious thing are you cooking?"
"Nothing much, just stewing some meat. Have you eaten? Do you want to join us?" Ling Feng offered.
"This, this might not be appropriate, would it?" Li Shiyun hesitated.
She had come to ask Ling Feng about something. She had lost her wallet that morning, searched everywhere without success, and had come to see if it was at his place, but he wasn’t home. It was only after it got dark and she saw lights in his house that Li Shiyun came over to inquire.
It just happened to coincide with his mealtime.
Ling Feng laughed, "What’s inappropriate about it? It’s just an extra pair of chopsticks, and I can’t finish it all by myself anyway. Plus, Li Yumei will be coming over soon too!"
"Her?"
Li Shiyun was taken aback upon hearing this name. She had learned some things about the two from idle chatter around the village in recent days.
Especially after hearing about how Ling Feng had driven away some thugs who came to collect debts that morning, Li Shiyun felt that Ling Feng was a rather upright person.
"Yeah, Yu Mei is my brother’s wife. Huzi passed away early, leaving her a widow with their orphaned child. It’s quite pitiable, so I occasionally look after them," Ling Feng said with a smile.
Upon hearing this, Li Shiyun smiled and nodded, "Well then, since she is also coming, I might as well taste your cooking!"
