The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 81: The next queen (1)
Chapter 81: The next queen (1)
Tobias and Edgar found a way out, parting ways after Edgar returned to his home and Tobias was now on his way to his room to rest.
Tobias had an eventful day of doing his part in the selection and joining his father to speak with the men in the throne room. He thought he could finally have some peace, but on the path to his bedroom, Helena was with the maid and guard assigned to her right behind her.
Tobias slowed down, contemplating whether he should go another way or continue on this path and simply not stop to speak to Helena. He was crossing paths with her too much lately and was certain she was purposely walking around his side of the palace.
From what he heard, his mother had found someone for Helena and they were getting to know each other. Tobias only had to bear with seeing Helena a little longer.
Since this would be the first time he was walking by her instead of going the other way, Tobias hoped that with a new man found for her, she was not still holding onto the dance.
’Prince Tobias," Helena greeted him, a smile forming as she was successful in seeing him.
She was told that he was busy along with the king, but it wouldn’t take long for the prince to be going back to his room so she waited.
"Helena," Tobias returned the greeting.
Since they were going to be family he had to try not to be rude. Being at odds with Helena would mess with his growing relationship with Hazel though the younger sister was a bit too childish for his liking at her age.
"The queen has matters to deal with so I am free to roam the palace a bit. I am curious to know how my sister is fairing. I don’t ever see the women in the selection passing by or no one I ask gives me more than she is fine. Is she doing well?" Helena asked, trying to start a conversation he would enjoy.
Now that the prince was before her, she had to make the interaction memorable. Make him regret not going for her when she was in the selection.
It was now the last day and tomorrow those not picked would be leaving the palace. Helena knew that she couldn’t get the prince to like her by then. If only she had caught up to him when she had spotted him, but he was always quick on his way and she could never meet with him like she did now.
"Hazel is doing fine as they said. A few dirty tricks have been played, but you should know that your sister can take care of herself. You will get to speak to her tomorrow. Your father is in the throne room so if you would like to speak to him, send a maid with the message. I advise you not to go there to try meeting him. Excuse me," Tobias said, finished with the conversation.
He was looking forward to resting before meeting his mother or father again and since there was nothing more for him to discuss with Helena, he was ready to be on his way before any of the men coming out of the throne room could catch up to him.
Helena turned with Tobias, not wanting him to leave just yet. "If you could, please let Hazel know that David is in the palace. She would be happy to know that he is back in town."
Tobias slowed down upon hearing this. He couldn’t think of a David here in the palace. There were too many people to keep track of. "I will pass on the message for you. Good day."
"Aren’t you curious-"
"No. By now, shouldn’t you be over trying to sabotage your sister? A friend I can see you turning your back on," Tobias said, turning around to face Helena. "That is still terrible, but trying to ruin your sister’s chance makes me see your heart. What do you think telling me this would do for you?"
"That I would be so jealous that I stop any feelings I have for your sister and come to you? Or is it that you want me to go to another woman? Does it sting most because it is your sister that I intend to wed?" Tobias asked.
"That is not it. I just thought you would want to know who David is. Truly," Helena said.
Wouldn’t any man courting a woman want to know about other men around the woman they like?
"David is only her friend. I thought you would have liked to know so you don’t misunderstand their relationship if you were to see them talking," Helena explained her reasoning for bringing up David.
Truthfully, she had always thought there was something more to their relationship, but Hazel and David stayed friends. Helena didn’t know why he was in the palace now, but she knew a misunderstanding was coming.
"You wanted to give me a heads up that there is a man who is her friend? Why did it feel like you were trying to get me to be jealous? It’ll take a little more than that," said Tobias.
Hazel having an old crush on someone would not bother him. It was old and if she felt any feelings upon seeing this man, they were not meant to get married. Since Hazel never brought up any men he had to watch out for when he asked, Tobias wasn’t concerned about this David.
"That was not my intention!" Helena argued, stomping her right foot down on the ground. The prince was always quick to misunderstand her.
Tobias looked down at her foot which she had stomped like Sofia did when she didn’t get her way. It was evident that Helena had always gotten her way all her life so she didn’t know how to act when something did not go her way. She resorted to acting like a child throwing a fuss.
How was Helena getting married to anyone when she was this way? She first needed a lesson that life would not go as you want and when it didn’t, you could not act this way. Helena was going to have a lot of people leaving her side if this continued.
"I am marrying Hazel. Nothing you say or do will make me lose interest in her and when she is my wife, should you play any silly games because of your jealousy, you shall find your time in Lockwood to be quite unbearable. I might even go as far to ban you from the palace. Think carefully about your future and please grow up," Tobias advised her.
He knew plenty of the men in town and though Helena came from a good family and was pretty, there was no one he knew who was going to put up with her behaviour for a long time. Not unless they were putting up with her for her wealth.
Unfortunately, there might be a few with hidden anger to try beating her behaviour out of her.
"Hazel will not like knowing that you would make my life hell. No matter what, my sister will always love me," said Helena.
If she were to tell Hazel about what Tobias said, Hazel would stop speaking to him.
"Knowing that, your behaviour now makes you even more heartless. Hurry up and get out of the palace, Helena. It is not promised that you will get to enjoy a peaceful stroll like this every day. Go back to your parent’s home or marry so you can be in a home where there is peace. Once again, I must take my leave," Tobias said, leaving this time right after bidding her goodbye.
He had nothing more to discuss and if he stayed around to say what was on his mind, Hazel might get angry with him when she heard about it.
Unless Helena started growing up, her days in the palace would be few in the future. Tobias didn’t want to get in the middle of the drama the two sisters were having as they would one day become close again. He hoped because Hazel cared for her sister and the situation they were in now greatly bothered her.
Those who were bothered by his relationship with Hazel now were going to be upset tomorrow with what he had planned when it was to be announced who had done well in this group. He had an escape plan for when he was finished as his mother and the court would want his head for ruining their plans.
Rather than have Hazel compete with the two women who were picked to make it into the last round selection and stay in the palace for three more days, he was ready to propose to her.
It made no sense wasting the other’s time as Hazel would say when he had already made up his mind that Hazel was the one he wanted to marry. He had seen a bit of a change in her feelings to know he could go ahead with proposing to her. By tomorrow afternoon, the kingdom would know the name of their future queen.
