The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 84: Shocking proposal (1)
Chapter 84: Shocking proposal (1)
For the first time in her life, Hazel wished that she could read someone’s mind to find out why Tobias was smiling at her as if he had some big master plan she needed to worry about. She wished she could go up to where he walked and pull him off to the side to know what it was he was planning, but she had to wait just like everyone else.
Hazel sighed, touching her forehead as she knew she was about to be stressed about something. Today was already a stressful day and Tobias was going to add to it. ’What is he planning?’ She wondered.
Everyone around Hazel was thrilled to see the royal family, but Hazel wanted to get inside the mind of the prince.
Helena looked at her sister and found her eyeing the prince as if she wanted to kill him. Again, she couldn’t understand how all of this was happening. How was the prince picking Hazel when Hazel didn’t seem to like him? Why was no one else questioning the relationship?
Helena wanted to question Hazel now but since she had agreed to move on so they could fix their relationship, she couldn’t ask now. She had to wait and watch the two to find the truth herself. Helena made up her mind to uncover what Hazel and the prince were hiding. Then she would confront Hazel about it.
Helena clapped with everyone else, but she didn’t share the same excitement. There were so many answers she needed before she could be fully accepting of the situation. She only hoped that there wasn’t some kind of scheme between the prince and Hazel.
That the two were not in love and only pretending to get something out of this. It wasn’t believable now that Helena thought of it for two people who hated each other to suddenly be in love and want to get married after seven days.
Helena looked around the ballroom to see if David was there. His presence might get some of the truth out. She only needed to stay out of the way so the prince couldn’t foolishly blame her.
’I should have noticed his horrible personality sooner,’ Helena thought.
She spent yesterday in disbelief over realising the type of person the prince was. He wasn’t like she had imagined in her head so she had truly stopped liking him. Helena now made up her mind to get her parents to ask Hazel if she knew what the prince was really like so she too would not be fooled.
Hazel joined everyone else in clapping to welcome the royal family.
Again the princess was nowhere in sight and Hazel thought it was the best idea. There was no telling how anyone would react today and if someone might end up getting hurt.
Hazel stepped closer to her father so he would protect her.
Nathan looked down beside him and smiled at Hazel still drawing close to him like she always did in the past. No matter how today ended, he was always going to be near to look over her.
Should Hazel be picked to stay in the palace, he would miss her more than he already was, but he would be happy for her. There was no one in this room to make a better queen than his sweet daughter.
What Nathan thought he needed to do was talk with the prince. He had crossed paths with the prince enough times to be able to pull him to the side and give him a warning about hurting Hazel.
Tobias might hold a lot of power in the kingdom as the future king, but that wouldn’t stop Nathan from threatening him should anything happen to Hazel. Being the prince or king would not make Nathan turn a blind eye to what was being done to his daughter.
One complaint from Hazel and he would find his way into the palace to end the little pretty prince’s life. Nathan would accept death after as he could die knowing he had helped Hazel.
"Thank you all for coming here today," Jeffrey addressed the crowd. "The second group came into the palace not long ago, but already we are at the end. We thank everyone for accepting our request and coming here to participate in finding the next queen." freёwebnoѵel.com
"A few young women from this group will continue to stay in the palace and join the others who succeeded from the first group. To those who will be going with their family in leaving the palace, I hope that you do not leave here with your head down. Speaking to my wife, you have all made this a great challenge for us."
"I enjoyed watching over all the young women this past week," Tabitha spoke up. "You should be proud of yourself for how well you presented yourself and no matter the outcome today, your families should remember that you gave it your all. You all came into this knowing that there could only be one queen."
"I’m sure it won’t be long that news of your engagements will reach my ears. You are all wonderful young women and it brings me joy to see that our kingdom continues to take good care in raising young girls. The prince will be the one to announce the two or three women to stay behind in the palace."
Tabitha smiled, turning to Tobias who had one simple job. He only had to say another name along with Hazel’s. He would get what he wanted whilst following the selection tradition. Tabitha almost frowned because of how Tobias smiled. He was up to something but she couldn’t guess what.
Tabitha looked away from Tobias to find Hazel in the crowd. What could the two be planning?
Tabitha couldn’t see Hazel’s face clearly to tell if she was in on what Tobias was planning to do. "Remember son, two women," she said before Tobias could address the crowd. "Do not do something stupid."
"Tabitha," Jeffrey said, wanting her to stop. Tobias knew how important the day was and was not going to ruin it. Not unless he wanted to be strangled in front of all of the people here. "Son, go on."
"Thank you," Tobias said, leaving his father’s side to be in front of his parents. "Like my parents, I thank you all for coming here today. I know that you are all eager to find out who the next queen will be. Though it is only two weeks that have gone by, this process feels slow and the people are restless. I am like you in wanting me to find a wife soon."
"I’ve enjoyed speaking to your daughters and got to know them well during these seven days, but there is one who stood out the most and I find myself wanting to be closer to her. So if you don’t mind," Tobias said, leaving his parents to go down into the crowd to where Hazel stood.
The ballroom started to fill with chatter as everyone watched the prince enter the crowd. This was different from what they heard happened last time.
Tobias stopped right before the Wallaces, his eyes glued to Hazel. Before anyone could ask what he was doing, Tobias got down on one knee.
