The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 409: Beautiful nights - II
"Does it matter if he is a human or if he is a vampire if he loves you?" Catherine said, slowly capturing my attention. "I would rather give a chance to someone who may have to feed on someone else for living rather than be with someone like.."
I knew who my sister was talking about. So, I finished for her, "father."
Catherine lowered her head. "Yes."
Father was someone who had left us before our mother had left the world. As soon as she started getting sick, we saw less of him and then, when she passed away, there were days we did not even hear from him.
It was not until Estelle took over most of the palace duties as the crown princess that our fathers remembered existed.
What Catherine meant was that she would rather take someone who loved her over someone who did not even remember that his children existed.
It hurt the most that we were his children and not the one he had adopted in name. He had not forgotten us in grief but in greed of what he expected to happen next. Our father had thought that he would become the king but did not understand what our grandfather did. The previous king had been reinstated when my parents got married.
My father was the prince, he could never be the king, even when he was the only royal member alive.
If I ever met my grandfather, and alive or dead, this was the one thing I would be grateful to him about about everything else.
Apart from all of that, this was always something I had fear. My sister had felt the absence of our father. "I always tried to fill in for his presence–"
"I know you did, Eive. But no matter how much you try, you cannot fill the presence of a father."
Her quiet and heartbroken voice split my heart into two. The need to explain to her arose stronger than any other I had felt. I did not want her to feel sad, especially by feeling that she was the reason he did not come close to her.
"Catherine," I called for her attention, " if you ever find it in yourself to blame for his lack of attention, remember that we did not get it either. He was only interested in mother and it was because she had the crown on top of her head."
"He was after power, my little love. He was not concerned with anyone except that."
Catherine teared up at my words, but I did not take them back. He did not care about any of us. He only cared about prince Augustus, his son, with Mira, because if he were to be king then father would be regarded as the man who fathered the king. Someone who would have sway over the king.
Father always knew that Estelle would never let him hold any power on her. It was one of the reasons why he preferred his son out of marriage.
"Do you think we can pick up some speed?" Catherine asked before I could answer, I caught the eye of Solomon.
He shook his head.
I see.
I huffed. Tristan may have allowed us to come for a house ride in the dark, but he had placed restrictions. Now I had to be the bearer of them.
To answer her question, I replied, softly, "No, little love. It’s still dark outside. How about I go for a walk in the lovely gardens? You have always loved to stay awake late at night and you have to chance."
That brightened her face a little bit. She agreed and we turned around to go back to the palace.
The rest of the ride was silent and I could not help but glance at my sister occasionally. She must be thinking about our previous conversation. I could not help her more than I already had. It was just reassurance as I could give and tell her about the instances where he could have been there for us, but he was just not. He chose not to be.
She was helped down and I waited for her to join me. Catherine was a little slow and told me all I needed to know about her mood. She was still feeling sad.
Slowly, everyone around us disappeared and only then did I start to move. This conversation was going to take privacy that we did not have earlier.
I looped our arms together and kept her close to me. " I don’t want you to feel bad about anything."
"I Am not."
"I also, do not want you to lie to me." I added swiftly.
She tsked and attempted to kick a stone in her path. "I just feel sad about it and that is all. We deserved his love and attention. Why did Augustus get it if we could not?"
"Because Augustus is an idiot, whereas our elder sister is not. Father would have been able to rule through the idiot, but our Sister would have never let him continue." I smiled. " he wanted a pawn, dear one. Our sister is a queen and she would never become that." Her anyone, I wanted to add, but did not, not even for our father. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Catherine halted in her step and I followed. Then she gasped and pointed somewhere, "Genevieve, look! It’s a white rabbit!"
I frowned and followed where she was pointing out. "A rabbit in winter?" And at night?
Catherine did not wait for me. She pulled away from me and ran towards it, but the rabbit, considering my sister as a run away from her.
"Catherine!" I called. "Don’t!" I said, louder than before.
Much like anyone, her age, she did not listen to me and ran after the rabbit who continued running towards the dents forest. I followed after her but stopped the moment when I noticed that the visibility had decreased drastically.
"Cat—Ah!" a sudden force, landed at the back of my head, sending me down into the cold and damp floor, knocking me out straightaway.
