The Spoilt Beauty And Her Beasts-Chapter 571: What? Everyone is always against me
The bark was light and almost transparent. Isabella held the first strip in her hand.
She began wrapping it around Shelia’s body. Starting from the feet, then moving upward. Each strip tightened slightly around Shelia, sealing in all the previous steps. Isabella worked slowly, making sure the wrap was even.
When Shelia was fully wrapped like a cocoon, Isabella stepped back and wiped the sweat from her forehead.
The hardest part was done.
She carried Shelia’s cocoon-like form to the far side of the room where a large window opening let the night breeze in. A flat stone slab sat beneath the opening, smooth from years of use. Isabella placed her gently on the cool surface. The faint starlight filtered through the window, falling softly over the Ghostshade Bark and making it shimmer like pale silver.
Isabella called Cyrus back inside for a moment and instructed him where to move Shelia. With careful strength, he lifted the cocoon-like body and placed her on the flat stone platform beneath the wide window opening.
When Cyrus left again, Isabella remained alone with Shelia. The faint starlight slipped in through the opening, falling across the Ghostshade Bark and making its surface glow softly.
Isabella sank to her knees beside her friend.
"You will wake up," she whispered. "You have to."
The night felt long. Isabella didn’t move. She sat there, watching Shelia’s cocoon rise and fall with each fragile breath.
Hours passed.
Her eyes burned, but she didn’t blink.
Her fingers trembled, but she didn’t move.
Her heart ached, but she didn’t cry.
She waited.
When the first light of dawn touched the sky, Isabella finally exhaled. Her body felt numb.
She looked down at Shelia.
Nothing changed.
Nothing moved.
Isabella’s heart dropped. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Please," she whispered. "Please work."
Then, suddenly, a small blue light flickered in the air in front of her. Isabella froze. The air shimmered, and glowing words slowly formed in front of her eyes.
Her system.
It had never activated without her calling it before.
The glowing text read:
Congratulations. The ritual is complete.
Shelia will awaken in the next twenty four hours.
Isabella stared at the words. Her eyes widened. She covered her mouth with her hand.
It worked.
She looked back at Shelia’s cocoon, her heart trembling.
"You’re safe," she whispered. "You’re really safe."
And for the first time since she found her friend almost dead, Isabella finally allowed herself to breathe.
...
Isabella hadn’t even stepped out of the stone palace when Ophelia came running towards her.
"Eh!" Isabella stared at her scoldingly but Ophelia did not mind.
Ophelia held Isabella’s hands trying to contain her anxiety. "Did it work, will Shelia live?"
Boink.
Ophelia felt Isabella’s finger on her forehead "Tsk, what made you think she could even leave us in the first place"
"Ouch" Ophelia rubbed her forehead "i was just worried" She pouted but then she became extremely happy as she realized that Shelia has been saved by Isabella.
She could only tell because Isabella seemed happier than last night, even though her eyes sill held traces of tiredness.
Isabella on the other hand froze, sensing Ophelia’s emotional stare on her. She turned only to meet a tearly Ophelia.
"You—" Isabella started with confusion ready to ask Ophelia why she was suddenly teary when she felt Ophelia’s arm warp around her.
"Isabella you are truly a goddess to our small village, what would we be able to do without you" Ophelia sniffed on Isabella’s shoulder.
She really felt like their small village was lucky to have Isabella. No matter what they must protect Isabella with all they have in this lifetime!
"Me?" Isabella asked a bit suprised and she felt Ophelia nod. Then she smiled hugging Ophelia back. "Of course i am a goddess, that’s why you must all cherish me alright"
The moment Ophelia heard her words she nodded and pulled back.
"Yes we will!" She smiled through the tears her eyes crinkling at the corners.
Just then Cyrus approached them. His long legs carried him through the open palace courtyard.
"You look tired" He said softly "And you did not sleep one bit last night" His tone was a bit scolding since he was displeased that after Isabella was done with Shelia she insisted on staying with her.
Isabella looked up at him with an innocent smile "I’m not even hungry" She took Cyrus hand swinging it from side to side.
Cyrus who was once upset smile at Isabella’s cute smile. "But at least you should always remember to rest"
Isabella seeing that her trick worked let out a light giggle and nodded agreeing.
Ophelia’s eyes moved from Isabella to Cyrus and then back to Isabella. She could not hold her excitement in, since this was the first time she has seen Isabella let herself go.
"I am also hungry" Zyran’s voice filled the air and broke the sweet moment.
Isabella fell onto Cyrus’ bare chest groaning with fustration "Can’t you just let me have a happy moment for once?"
Cyrus smiled at her reaction, trying to bit back a laugh at how cute she looked.
But Zyran did not care and simply said "No. but if you really want to have a happy moment then mate with me after birth"
Zyran said bending down to her level. The smile on his face really screamed how shameless he was.
"Zyran you will die a shameless man" Isabella shot up with embarrassment as she looked around. Ophelia tried to act serious so she wouldn’t get scolded and Cyrus’ face was blank so she could not tell if he was mad or not.
Yet Zyran did not give up "Well i was born a shameless man, wouldn’t it be strange if i did not die a shameless man too?"
His question made Isabella look up at him and immediately reached out for him but Cyrus quickly held her back.
"D-do you both see him? He is trying to make me mad!" Isabella turned red, she really could never get used to Zyran’s madness.
"Do not pay him any attention, i have made food let’s go" Cyrus simply said as he bit his cheek trying to stop himself from laughing.
He dragged Isabella from there while she kept cursing at Zyran.
"She’s so cute isn’t she?" Zyran asked Ophelia with a smile on his face, but she looked at him with disapproval and she left.
"What? Everyone is always against me"
