The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 47 - . Drunk
Chapter 47: 47. Drunk
Mauve looked around the dining hall. She could not believe she was back here. She had woken up with a bad taste in her mouth even seeing Damon's ripped guts had not affected her as much as watching Erick slice his guts. She never wanted to experience anything like that again. She still couldn't comprehend how he could easily slash himself.
She shook her head and tried to concentrate on the meal in front of her but her stomach churned. Mauve forced herself to swallow, it was bad enough that she had fainted in front of everyone when it happened, but she could not show that it affected her appetite.
She turned to find Jael staring at her with an expression she couldn't read. She quickly broke eye contact and returned her gaze to the plate in front of her. At that moment a cup was placed in front of her and a servant poured a red liquid into it.
Mauve had seen enough of it to know it was wine. She frowned and was about to reject it but something stopped her. She was curious. She was never given any, not even at her wedding. There was no way she would pass up the chance to taste wine.
She smiled faintly and stretched out to pick up the cup, she twirled it but didn't take a sip. The liquid spun, and the candles gave it an even darker color.
Jael lifted his cup and said, "A toast to your safe return and quick recovery."
Joyous sounds erupted from them as they also lifted their cups. Mauve tried to follow but she was a little slow. She lifted her hands slightly and noticed that everybody gulped their drinks after the toast. She tried to do the same and nearly choked.
The wine had a bitter tang she did not anticipate but she couldn't stop now so she forced it down. As soon as she dropped her cup, the servant quickly poured more.
Horror passed across Mauve's face. There was no way she could take another drink. She saw that the vampires drank at least five cups in a roll.
Mauve blinked even when there was a party she had never seen anyone take five cups, let alone almost simultaneously.
"This party tastes like chaff!" Erick muttered after taking a cup of wine.
"Because you ruined it," Damon scolded.
"I don't want to hear it from someone who is the reason why there is a celebration in the first place," Erick replied.
"Shut it, Erick!" Danag yelled.
Erick immediately went quiet and with a scowl on his face, he took another cup of wine. At this point, Mauve just wanted to go to her room, eating with all of them was overwhelming.
She instinctively reached for the cup and took a drink. The bitter taste slapped her harder than the first time. She dropped it with a little bit of force and everyone at the table turned to look at her.
Mauve immediately bent her head, at the same time a hiccup escaped from her throat. Mauve reddened and immediately stretched out her hand to pick the wine and he gulped the rest of it to stop another hiccup.
Thankfully, it worked. She sighed, her hiccups could be annoying. She turned her attention to her food and aggressively ate it, hoping their attention would divert away from her soon enough.
"Sire, when are you throwing a proper party, a ball? I am tired of seeing the same old faces." Erick broke the silence. Mauve was glad that the conversation had picked up again.
"You can throw one if you want, Erick. It wouldn't be the first time."
Erick scratched his head and chuckled. "Can I use your seal like last time?"
"I don't recall you asking for permission the first time around."
"You just want an excuse to hit on the ladies, Erick," Danag said.
"What? Some would say I am a ladies' man." He blurted.
"Nobody says that."
She wanted to finish quickly, so she could excuse herself but she knew she couldn't eat anymore. She was afraid that if she forced herself she would throw up.
Mauve stood to her feet suddenly. Jael turned to look at her. "I would like to retire, I feel a little faint."
They all turned to look at Erick. "What?" He asked.
"You may go, try not to fall on your way back."
Mauve glared at him and scoffed. She didn't respond and started walking out, halfway to the door the ground tilted. Mauve staggered and almost fell but Jael rushed to her side and held her up with one hand.
She could see his amused faces and that was when she realized that she could see two of his faces. "Why are there two of your faces?"
Jael frowned, "How many fingers do I have up?"
"Two," she said a little annoyed, she couldn't believe he was asking her that.
Jael swore, "How many cups of wine did you take?"
"Not a lot," Mauve said and smacked his chest, annoyed that he thought she couldn't handle the wine.
"How many, Mauve?"
Mauve smiled beside herself. She liked when he called her by her name. She touched his face, she couldn't remember the question. "Hmm."
Her fingers moved up to his temple. "I like your eyes." She smiled sheepishly at him and tried to touch his eyes.
Jael caught her, dropped it, and lifted her off the ground. "Get her maid," he ordered. The door opened and walked out of the dining hall with her in his hands.
"Where are you taking me?" She asked.
"Your room," he answered.
"I can walk, you know."
"I am sure."
"Put me down."
"What?" He exclaimed.
"You heard me, put me down." She started shaking vigorously in his arms.
"Fine, fine. Calm down, I'll put you down."
"I don't like when you treat me like a kid, I don't always fall on my face except when you are around, technically, it's your fault."
Jael smirked and for some reason, his smirk annoyed her.
"Did I say something funny?"
"Yes," he responded without hesitation.
"Put me down."
"You will fall."
"I won't fall."
"Mauve, this time I promise you will fall on your face."
"That's only because you've jinxed me now. You probably used your vampire powers."
"There is no such thing as vampire powers. Now shush, that's enough rambling from you."
"You don't tell me what to do."
"Technically, I do. I tell everybody what to do and I assure you that you are no different." He turned the handle of her room and pushed the door open.
"That's what you think."
"Are you saying you don't follow my orders?"
"I didn't that time," she grinned satisfactorily.
"And you were almost injured. So you see that it is not a good idea to disobey my orders."
"Put me down."
"As you wish," he said and gently placed her on the bed.
"Your orders are ridiculous."
"Says the drunk Missy."
"I am not drunk."
"How many fingers do I have up?"
Mauve frowned, "I hate this dumb question. Two."

"Well, at least your vision is back."
"Don't make it sound like I am blind," she responded and tried to sit up.
He used a finger to push her down, "It's best you don't move."
She glared at him and opened her mouth to speak when the doors flung open and Vae came running in. "Princess! Are you alright?" She asked as she rushed to the side of the bed.
"Vae!" Mauve cried with excitement and tried to sit up again but Jael prevented it.
Vae stopped in her track when she noticed Jael. She bowed low enough to break her waist, "Your Grace I-I didn't know you were here."
"I brought her up. Do you think you can handle this?"
"W-what is wrong with her?" Vae asked with her head still bent.
"She is drunk."
"I am not drunk!" She protested and tried to sit up again. This time Jael allowed her.
"I will leave her in your care," he said and stood up from the bed.
Vae nodded with her head still bent. "I will take care of her."
Jael approached Vae and her entire body froze up, she didn't even blink.
"I am sure you will," Jael said and walked past her.
Vae's breath came out in pants and it echoed in the quiet room. She didn't move until she heard the door close.
"Vae!" She whined.
"Princess," Vae called and sat by her side. "How do you feel?"
"My mouth tastes weird."
"Sorry, would you like something to drink?"
Mauve nodded.
"And a bath perhaps, I'll wash your hair and style it if you like."
"Okay," Mauve said giddily.
"I can't believe you got drunk, just earlier you were unconscious." Worry etched Vae's face.
Vae placed the back of her palm against Mauve's forehead. Maybe removed her hand. "I am fine, Vae."
"I hope princess, I really hope so."
