The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 48 - . You Can’t Sleep Completely Bare
Chapter 48: 48. You Can't Sleep Completely Bare
Mauve jumped as her body touched the water, for some reason it felt scalding hot. The water splashed out of the tub and onto the carpet as she pulled her leg out. "Vae!" She whined. "Why is it so hot?"
"It isn't princess, this is the usual temperature you bathe with."
"No," Mauve said.
"No?"
"Yes, cool it down."
"Cool it down?" Vae repeated. "I can't do that princess."
"Why not?" Mauve asked, she peered at Vae with a serious face.
Vae kept a straight face even though it was obvious that it was taking her everything not to burst into laughter. "Because," she said slowly. "I don't have any lukewarm water to mix it with unless you want to wait for it to cool off. I could go get some if you would like that."
"No," she said and got in. She screeched a little as she sat in the tub. "My skin is peeling off."
Vae chuckled, "No it is not."
"Why are you laughing?"
"I am not, there was something in my throat."
"Okay. Wash my hair."
"Yes, princess."
Vae worked fast, scrubbing, washing, and rinsing. She rubbed Mauve's scalp tenderly and Mauve relaxed at the feel of Vae's fingers on her head.
"Princess," Vae called after some time had passed.
"Hmm," Mauve muttered.
"I am all done."
"Hmm," she repeated but made no move to step out of the tub.
"Princess, you have to step out all you would catch a cold," Vae exclaimed.
"Hmm," Mauve said and rolled her head but still didn't move.
"Princess," Vae called and this time she tried to lift Mauve out of the tub.
"Leave me," Mauve ordered.
"But princess, you can't stay in the dirty water."
Mauve groaned and got out of the water splashing it everywhere.
"Princess!" Vae cried.
Mauve didn't pay her any mind but proceeded to jump onto the bed dripping water. Vae caught her before she could fall on the bed and wrapped the towel around her.
"Princess, you can't walk around dripping water everywhere." She scolded.

Mauve scoffed but stood still for Vae to wipe her clean. When Vae was done Mauve jumped into bed and slipped under the sheets.
"Princess," Vae cried, she was getting very frustrated. "Your night dress.
"I don't want it," Mauve mumbled and closed her eyes.
"What?" Vae looked horrified. "You can't sleep completely bare."
Mauve groaned but didn't respond, instead, she rolled and got more comfortable, rubbing her slightly wet hair all over the pillow.
Vae winced as she watched the sight. "Princess," she tried again but got no response.
Vae sighed and walked to the wardrobe, she picked a night dress and walked to the bed. She pulled the sheets off Mauve and tried to slip the dress over her head but Mauve put up a fight.
"By the gods, princess." Vae cried when she realized she wasn't winning this fight. "Please put on your clothes."
"No," Mauve muttered and pulled up the sheets.
Vae sighed again, "Do you really want to sleep like this?" She asked.
She got no response. "If I thought you were a handful sober, I take that back."
She slowly stood up from the bed with the night clothes in her hand and returned them to the wardrobe.
Vae looked at the ground, she had work to do. The clothes the princess had taken off were soaked, and the carpets too. Vae groaned at the amount of work she had to do.
She started by wiping the floor. When the carpets were thoroughly cleaned, she opened the windows. She couldn't take them out yet. She was hoping the night air was enough to dry them off, if it wasn't she would have to take them out before sunset.
Vae twirled her shoulders, she shouldn't have tried to dress up the princess, the drunk princess had put up quite a fight. She twirled her wrists, it still hurt now and then but each time the pain was a little less.
She walked towards the side of the bed and pulled on the string once, she didn't want to have to come back up after going up the stairs. She knew there was a celebration in the dining hall but she hoped at least a servant would hear the bell.
A different servant had brought the bath water even before she asked and she had assumed the Vampire King had sent him. Vae didn't know how to feel about the Vampire King. She was terrified of him that much was certain but she still couldn't tell if he was a good person or not.
He was nice to the princess, well, at least from what she could see and she could tell that every vampire in the castle respected and feared him but it was closer to admiration than fear.
It took a while for her to hear a knock and she half thought she would have to get the servant that would move the tub herself.
Vae didn't say anything as she walked to the door and opened it. She frowned at the sight in front of her and stepped aside so he could walk in. He didn't.
Vae's frown deepened, she didn't have the time for this. Her shoulders were killing and she badly wanted to sleep. Sleeping only during the day kind of made her tired when dawn was approaching.
"Aren't you going to come in?" She asked with a grim expression.
"Are you avoiding me?"
Vae pressed her hand to the bridge of her nose, at this point she was certain Mack was a bit dense. "I am pretty sure you can guess why but sorry to ruin your parade. I have better things to do than to actively avoid you."
"I apologized," he said, his gaze unwavering.
"And I heard your apology. Now before you wake my princess and she finds out about the incident, I suggest you take the bath water and leave."
He was like a child who did something in a fit of anger and now he was trying to make it right. Vae didn't care about that, as long as she didn't have to worry about broken wrists, she hoped he stayed fifty feet away from her. Unfortunately, she never got what she wanted.
She expected some kind of protest from him but he just nodded his head and walked into the room. He picked up the bath water and walked out without saying a word.
Vae sighed, she wanted to go home. She couldn't take another moment of this. How hard was it to lay with a Vampire King? She was getting pretty desperate.
She was tempted to use underhanded methods but she couldn't do that to the princess. She was certain Mauve had no idea what it entailed.
She picked up the wet clothes and walked towards the door with them. She got to the door and looked back, the princess was sleeping peacefully. Her hair was splayed everywhere, the pillow, her face, her neck.
Vae smiled but her smile quickly fell. She was hoping the Vampire King would make a move but try as she might she couldn't see him lying with a human considering how vampires thought they were nothing but animals.
She was hopeful though, especially with the princess's attitude toward the Vampire Lord. It was pretty obvious that she harbored some affection towards him even though the princess thought he was scary.
She turned the handle and walked out of the room. She closed the door without a sound except for the click of the key and hurried down the stairs. She would wash the clothes after a long nap. Now, she wanted to get some rest.
Vae got to her room and dropped the wet clothes in the corner. She got to her bed and knelt. She clasped her hands together and placed her elbow on the bed.
She prayed every night before she went to bed, and prayed to the gods that kept her alive even though she was in a place she wasn't supposed to survive. She prayed that the gods keep the princess safe but more importantly, she prayed that she would be able to leave here soon enough.
Vae closed her eyes tightly as the last prayer left her lips. Leaving the princess in the hands of a monster like this didn't sit well with her but she knew her presence wouldn't make any difference if danger were to befall the princess.
Vae unclasped her hands and stood to her feet. She rubbed her knees, she had knelt a little too long and there was a slight pain in them. "I am getting weak," she snickered.
In the castle, she would kneel for hours scrubbing the floor and her knees wouldn't hurt as much as they did now. She wouldn't feel a thing. Life here was easy except for the part of constantly living on the edge and with no sunlight.
However, it wasn't for her. She wanted to go home to her family, she knew they missed her as she did them.
