The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 75 - . A Welcome Wouldn’t Kill You, Jael
Chapter 75: 75. A Welcome Wouldn't Kill You, Jael
"Don't even think about it," Erick muttered as he passed Damon's back. "This human's presence doesn't change anything."
Mauve winced at his words and immediately looked at the table. She didn't know what they were talking about but she could guess it had something to do with Jael.
Damon scoffed, "For the son of a Lord you lack civility. You act no less than a servant."
Erick took a seat leaving an empty one between him and Damon. He turned his body sideways so his front was facing Damon who had his elbows on the table.
"I don't want to hear that from the son of a maid and all I did was give you fair warning. Now, who lacks civility?" Erick arched his head to the side as he glared at Damon.
"I appreciate your concern but it would be best if you stick your nose in your own affairs."
"Don't say I didn't warn you. She is his and there couldn't be a better match. You better not ruin this."
She? Mauve's mind screamed. If this wasn't about her then who? She blinked rapidly as the wheels in her head spun. She didn't want to think about the obvious so she concentrated on the conversation.
"The last thing I need is someone like you telling me that. Mind your fucking business, Erick and there is nothing to ruin. You don't make decisions for her."
"I am telling you to stay away and It's my business that the vampire's bloodline remains as untainted as possible."
"You know for someone who goes on and on about pure blood, you sure like to stick it in dirty places."
Erick's reaction was instantaneous, his eyes glowed, his fangs engorged and he looked ready to pounce on Damon when the doors flew open.
"Danag," Erick called shakily and stood to his feet. His fangs were no longer visible and the glow in his eyes had completely faded. Mauve thought he looked paler.
Damon glanced at the door and immediately looked away before he could make eye contact with Danag.
"I could hear your voices from a mile away and to think you would have such conversations with an audience," Danag said and approached the table, his lips a thin line.
Erick's eyes darted back and forth while Damon still refused to look at Danag. Danag sat in between them and as soon as he was seated Erick returned to his seat.
"Danag, I apologize for what I said."

"Don't, it's his own fault for spurting such nonsense." Danag slowly turned to Erick, "Apologize."
"Huh? Why do I have to…"
Danag moved quickly, he grabbed Erick by the collar and flung him. Erick hit the wall and before he could recover, Danag rushed to him and caved his face in.
Mauve didn't have time to react as her eyes could barely keep up with their movements. She brought her hands to her lips as she tried to stop herself from making any sudden sound.
He grabbed Erick by the collar again and held him up. "The next time you refuse a direct order you won't get off with just a punch."
Danag's grip on Erick's shoulders relaxed and Erick fell to the ground. Danag walked away without a second glance. He wiped the blood on his fist against his shirt before he took his seat.
"I apologize for the ruckus, there was no need for you to witness that. I hope it won't ruin your appetite." He said with a smile, his expression completely betraying the scene behind him.
"No, no, no, no," Mauve stuttered. "Not at all, I am fine." Her voice toned down a notch as she forced a smile. Compared to Erick slicing his guts, this was a lot easier to watch.
She looked in Erick's direction and saw that the vampire no longer laid on the ground. He was standing on his feet and there was blood pouring out of his nose and the side of his lips.
He walked groggily to the table, his eyes gleaming. He wiped his face before he sat down but he did a messy job of trying to clean up. There was a line of blood across his cheek from where he had tried to wipe the blood on his lips and his nose was no longer dripping but it was still covered in blood.
Mauve brought her head down at the glint in Erick's eyes. He was angry, from the grinding of his jaw to the look in his eyes, it was pretty obvious that he was pissed.
As soon as he sat down the doors opened and the servants walked in holding several trays. Leading them was the head cook, Mister Herbert. Mauve relaxed at the interruption as the tension in the air reduced a bit.
Mister Hebert was an older vampire, in human age he would be somewhere in his mid-thirties. Mauve was certain he was at least five times that age if not more. However, she wasn't sure how vampires age, all she could make was assumptions.
"I apologize for the delay," Mister Herbert said and bowed. "I had to make a few changes to the menu per the return of Lady Jevera."
The servants behind him bent their heads too as Mister Herbert spoke.
"It is fine, Herbert," Danag said. "Get to serving. The Sire will be here soon enough."
Mister Herbert nodded vigorously and the rest of the servants moved forward. They placed the dishes on the table and stood back while Mister Herbert took care of placing Jael's plates.
A servant handed a napkin to Erick who pulled it out of the servant's hands a little forcefully. He wiped his face rapidly. He pulled the napkin away from his face and the white napkin was bright red.
Mauve closed her eyes but the picture was forever sealed in her brain. She looked up at Erick and their eyes met. She broke eye contact immediately and rubbed her arms. It suddenly felt chilly.
Mister Herbert was still arranging them when the doors opened and Jael walked in. Mister Herbert's hands froze on the plates and he immediately bowed. He bowed low enough to form a fallen L.
The guards stood up immediately. Mauve didn't, she pouted a little and kept her gaze down.
"Sire," Mister Herbert said when Jael got close enough and pulled out his seat.
He sat and got comfortable before the guards sat down. Jael ran his eyes over them. The question in his eyes was glaring but none of them said a word.
"Care to explore to me what this is about?" Jael asked when it was pretty obvious none of them was going to answer.
"I tripped," Erick said casually.
Jael raised a brow, "Indeed. Shall we eat then?"
The servants served and Jael took a bite. No sooner was the spoon in his mouth that the door flew open again. Mauve would have sworn Jael stiffened but she assumed her eyes were playing tricks on her.
She looked to the door and forgot that she didn't fetch anything on her spoon as she brought the empty spoon to her lips.
Lady Jevera was stunning, she had on a black frill dress. The dress stopped just above her knee. The top of the dress clung to her body. The neckline was low enough to show a modest amount of cleavage. Her bust was of generous size and Mauve felt herself go green with envy.
The black dress brought out her pale skin but her red hair stood out the most. It was a flame atop her hair. It was full and bounced with each step she took.
Their eyes met and Mauve immediately brought her eyes down and concentrated on her food. The guards were all on their feet and the servants were bowing. Only she and Jael remained seated.
"I can't believe you started without me," she said and stood beside Jael putting her hand on his shoulder.
Jael glanced at her hand but didn't remove it nor did he say a word. He returned his gaze to his foot while Lady Jevera took her hand from his shoulders.
Damon moved quickly, pulling out the chair so she could take a seat. She did not acknowledge his gesture and she kept her eyes glued to Jael. Mauve suddenly felt uneasy, if this was a competition there was no need for a match as the winner was pretty obvious.
Immediately she sat, Danag said with a soft bow, "It is good to have you back Lady Jevera."
She turned to look at him with a smile, "It is good to see you, Danag."
She frowned as her eyes rested on Erick. "What happened to you?"
"Don't act as though you care." Erick blurted out with a glare.
"You are right, I don't," she turned away immediately.
The guards took their seats and began to eat.
"A welcome wouldn't kill you, Jael," Lady Jevera said.
Mauve felt her heart squeeze, hearing his name on Lady Jevera's lips was a little hard to take and she couldn't even comprehend why.
