The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 76 - . Jealousy Is Not A Good Look
Chapter 76: 76. Jealousy Is Not A Good Look
"I don't see the need for that, you did leave without a farewell," Jael responded without looking at her even though Lady Jevera's gaze on him never wavered.
"My father wanted me home," she muttered and picked up her cutlery, holding one in each hand. Mauve couldn't comprehend how she did this without ever looking down.
"How is he?" Jael asked, he casually glanced at get but his attention quickly shifted.
"Faring. He requests your presence." Her brows dipped as she spoke and an unreadable expression appeared.
"I'd rather not discuss such matters over a meal." He said with a nonchalant tone to his voice.
Lady Jevera scoffed, "I am here to bring you to him."
"I do not need an escort."
"True but otherwise my father would have to wait forever."
She prodded, leaning forward a bit and Mauve found her gaze straying to the cleavage on display. She quickly looked at Jael to check if he was staring but Jael had his gaze glued to his food.
"As I said, I'd rather not discuss such matters over a meal." He fiddled with it a little before putting a bite into his mouth.
Lady Jevera rolled her eyes but didn't say a word, instead, she turned to look at Mauve who quickly brought her eyes down and put some food in her mouth. It tasted ashy.
Mauve looked at Jael but he wouldn't look at her. She stared hard but still, he completely ignored her presence and that was when she realized that he had not said a single word to her since he walked in.

She tried to concentrate on eating but her thoughts wouldn't let her. Everybody except Danag acted as though she wasn't at the table with them. They all ignored her presence.
There was also the obvious tension as though everybody knew something she didn't and she would be stupid to say she couldn't guess. Lady Jevera and Jael had more than a casual relationship.
If her behavior towards him wasn't enough, the fact that she had called him by his name was more than enough indication. She was the only Vampire Mauve has heard call him by his name.
Mauve blinked rapidly as she felt water in the corner of her eyes. It was just a name, she couldn't comprehend why she was feeling weird about it. People are supposed to be called by their names.
She stabbed the meat and missed, making a loud sound as her fork hit the plate. Everybody stopped simultaneously and turned to look at her. Mauve reddened, now was not the time to draw attention to herself.
"Pardon me," she immediately blurted out.
She looked up and her eyes met Lady Jevera. The scorn on her expression made Mauve lose whatever appetite she had left. She brought her eyes down and darted left and right as she prayed the attention would shift from her.
She heard a soft chuckle from her right and turned to see Jael staring at her with a smirk on his face. She quickly turned her face away as a smile immediately appeared on her lips. He was looking at her again.
"Jael," Lady Jevera's voice thundered in the quiet hall.
Mauve jerked at the sudden call. She looked up to see Lady Jevera smiling seductively at Jael. He turned to look at Lady Jevera who was on the other side completely taking his eyes off Mauve. Mauve couldn't help but feel as though she had lost.
"I hear the party is coming up," she muttered and put a slice of meat in her mouth.
He glared at her, "You know exactly when and every detail, I sent a letter to the house of Levaton."
"I am making conversation, Jael. It wouldn't kill you to indulge me."
"I don't have time for aimless conversation." He muttered coldly.
"It is not aimless, patience isn't one of your strong points."
"Indeed and for some reason you keep testing it."
Mauve froze as a chill ran up her back. The malice in his voice wasn't hidden.
"Do you really intend to invite Seraphino Trenton?" Lady Jevera asked, there was slight concern in her voice.
"All Lords are expected to attend. It's not just an invitation, it's an obligation. The only person exempted is your father and I'm sure you know why."
Lady Jevera rolled her eyes, "He is agile enough to make the trip. He just doesn't want to be amongst other Lords."
"Me too. Do we really have to invite all of them?" Erick asked.
Lady Jevera slowly turned to look at him. Her glare was enough to kill, it was obvious that she did not appreciate the interruption.
She turned her gaze back to Jael and Mauve saw it instantly soften but Jael was already looking away. He took the last bite and stood to his feet without a word and started to walk out.
"Jael," Lady Jevera whined and stood to her feet to go after him.
He didn't wait for her, she had to speed up to catch up with him. She did, grabbing onto his arm before they slipped out of the doors. Mauve felt all the color drain from her face.
"Mauve," Danag's voice slightly called onto her.
She quickly masked her expression with a smile.
"Are you okay? You have barely touched your meal."
"I am okay, I just don't have much of an appetite today. It must be because I had a late first meal." She brightened her fake smile.
"Don't force yourself," the side of his eyes softened and Mauve knew he pitied her.
She faked a chuckle, "I know, I will just eat later."
Damon has his gaze on his plate and he looked spaced out with the way he fiddled with his food while Erick stared at her with a bright smile. He looked genuinely glad about that situation.
They all knew what was going on, pretending it was just her imagination wasn't going to do her any good. She dropped her cutlery and stood to her feet.
"Thank you for a lovely meal," she said directly to Mister Herbert who stood in the corner as they ate. "I am sorry, I couldn't eat every last bite of it."
He smiled faintly at her and she nodded to Danag before she walked to the door. She couldn't bear to be in the hall one more minute.
She rushed out the door and fled to her room. She sat down on her bed and took a deep breath. She was overthinking things.
She walked to the dresser and stared at her reflection. She knew she couldn't be left alone with her thoughts. She brushed her hair out of her face and checked her appearance again.
She was going to the library, at least while reading so she wouldn't have to think about what had happened during lunch. Jealousy was not a good look on her, she thought as she stared at her flushed cheeks.
She walked out of her door and stared in the direction of his room. Her gaze stopped on his doors. It couldn't be that they were both in there. She closed her eyes and resisted the urge to walk to the door or worse go back into the room and open the connecting door.
She forced herself to walk away and head upstairs to the library. At least there she would find something to keep her busy. If she was idle, she knew she would go crazy.
She was mostly overthinking it but even if she wasn't, there wasn't anything wrong there. The vampires would never accept her. She wasn't even a wife or anything like that. She was just proof of the treaty, nothing more.
Thinking she was more important than this was nothing but wishful thinking. She pushed open the doors of the library and walked in. It was brightly lit. She smiled faintly.
She knew it could only be because of Jael's order to the servants. Maybe, it wasn't all so bad. It is better than she imagined. She had assumed she would be chained up and be nothing more than a blood slave to him but this wasn't the least bit bad.
She pulled out a book and walked to the nearby desk. So what if everyone wanted him to get married to a vampire and their marriage meant nothing to them?
Even though only Erick had been the only one to give that impression, the look of pity on Danag's face solidified this line of thought for her.
She flipped the book and groaned loudly. This wasn't keeping her thoughts at bay at all. It sounded even louder in the empty library. She squinted her eyes and tried again.
The sound of the doors opening roused her from her thoughts and her face brightened at the thought that it might be Jael. Aside from Mill, he was the only one who came to the library.
The doors open fully and Mauve saw red hair. Her smile immediately fell from her face as she braced herself. She could tell from the look on Lady Jevera's face that something wasn't right.
