The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 77 - . She Smells Taken
Chapter 77: 77. She Smells Taken
Jevera watched Jael stare at the human girl and her heart squeezed, in all the years they have been intimate he had never looked at her like that, not once, not even when he had his fangs buried in her and more.
It was hard to concentrate on her food. The puny thing had her head down and some color to her cheeks. Why was he staring at her like that? She just embarrassed herself and interrupted everyone's meal like some child. She should be made to stand in the corner.
"Jael," she heard herself say. She couldn't bear to watch this one more second.
He turned to look at her as she had hoped but his expression was back to normal. His brows slightly dipped in a perpetual state of annoyance, his lips a thin line, and his eyes stared condescendingly at her. This was the look she was used to, this was the one she knew.
"I hear the party is coming up."
His gaze darkened even more, "You know exactly when and in every detail, I sent a letter to the house of Levaton."
Sure, he was looking at her with hostility but all that mattered was he was looking at her. He was right; she did know everything about the party and she couldn't care less whether it happened or not. She couldn't stand to watch him stare at the human like that.
She smiled and tried to keep up the conversation but with every word that came out of her mouth, she could literally see him run out of patience. She wasn't going to give up so easily, it has been decades, of course, and she was used to this.
Jevera heard her cousin's voice interrupt and she turned to look at him while trying her best to ignore the urge to smack him. He hated his guts as she hated his guts too.
They were closer when they were younger but ever since he found that about that he has been nothing but a pain in the ass. The fact that she had ended things more than half a century ago didn't change his attitude.
She quickly returned her gaze to Jael but his attention was already on his food. She swore, the bastard was the reason she had to look away.
She watched him take the last nite and stand to his feet. Jevera didn't hesitate, she dropped her cutlery even though she was barely halfway done with her meal.

"Jael," she cried as she stood to her feet.
He didn't stop nor did he slow down and she had to run to catch up with him. It was a miracle she still had a smile on her lips by the time she grabbed his arms.
He didn't pull away, she was glad. If he humiliated her in front of the human, she doubted her will would be able to take it.
She pressed her body against him, still grabbing hold of his arm. He didn't resist but he didn't accept either. This wasn't unusual, he had never touched her voluntarily. If she didn't make a move on him, he never did.
They walked out of the dining room and she still held on to him. He walked up the stairs, towards his bedroom and she felt herself warm up at the thought that he was going to stop there.
He didn't, he went past it. She pouted and scoffed. He ignored the sound and stopped in front of his study. He pushed the doors open and walked in.
The first thing Jevera noticed was how dark the room was. She blinked as her vision adjusted but Jael was already moving. She rolled her eyes annoyed that he never needed any time for his eyes to adjust. Everything looked the same to him either light or dark. However, sunlight tended to hit him more stronger.
He was completely out of her grasp and she heard a loud sound as he flung the curtains to the sides and opened the windows. Jevera blinked and felt a slight breeze in her hair.
He walked to his desk and took a seat. Jevera immediately noticed it was covered in paper. She walked towards the desk and took a seat across from him.
"You know you don't have to do this yourself right?"
"Would you read a letter written by Danag?" He asked with a raised brow.
"Absolutely not. I'm not saying he should write the invitations. I'm saying he should read their responses."
"What difference would it make? He would have to tell me word for word and Vampire Lords are sly creatures. I am not about to give them a reason to not attend. What do you want?"
"Do I need to want something?" Jevera asked with a stiff smile.
"If you don't then excuse me, you can see I have a lot of work to do."
Jevera shook her head, it was hard not to show her annoyance. "When do you intend to see my father?"
Jael glared at her and Jevera adjusted in her seat. "Wouldn't you say the party is more important? We will discuss this after."
"There is no reason to wait that long," she insisted. "It is merely a two-hour trip to the castle even with the human, it will be three hours at most. We will leave at sunset."
"Why does your father want to see me?" Jael asked and leaned forward. "Surely, you must know, otherwise you wouldn't be advocating this hard for me to make the trip."
Jevera's eyes darted from left to right, "I do not know."
Jael leaned backward, "The fact that you think you can lie in front of me is aggravating. We are done with this conversation. You can bring it back up when the party's over. I am sure your old man can wait, being exempted from the party means he has more time on his hands. Well, I don't have the luxury of time. Leave."
Jevera glared at him, how can he talk to her in such a manner? She got that he was angry she left but he didn't have to be so cold. She had more reasons to be annoyed. A whole lot of reasons.
She stood to her feet and started to walk to the door. Suddenly, she stopped, "I am not leaving."
"What? I do not have time for this, Jevera." The glint in his eyes made her lose her courage for an instant but she did not back down.
She turned around slowly and folded her arms. "The human, she smells different from the first time I met her, she smells taken."
"And?" He arched his head to the side. His expression didn't waver.
"And?!" Jevera felt her vision blur as a wave of anger washed over her. "Have you lost it? Was the urge to mate so strong that you would stick it anywhere? A human?" She paused and laughed. "You are the King of Vampires, act like it."
She had refused to believe it was true, she thought the smell of her emanating from him was simply because he had drunk her blood but it was a little too strong to be just blood. She closed her eyes at the fact that the despicable had happened.
"I understand that the fact that you have shared my bed a couple of hundred times has given you the illusion that you can speak to me in such a manner."
His voice was cold, a little too cold and the casual way he mentioned their encounters tore at her heart. His expression was unreadable but Jevera immediately felt uneasy.
He was by her side in an instant. He grabbed her neck and dug his fingers into the sides of her neck. Jevera felt fear and tasted it. Her eyes watered as her lungs cried for oxygen.
Vampires could stay long minutes without breathing but she could feel herself begin to choke in only a few seconds.
"I'll excuse you this once, just this once. The next time such insolence pours out of your lips…" Still holding her neck, he rubbed her lower lip with his thumb, the one that wasn't around her neck.
His grip tightened and she gasped. She fought the urge to reach out and touch his grip around, she knew it would only piss him off. She couldn't believe she had let her anger get to her enough to utter those words to him.
"I am sorry," she mouthed because no sound could leave her lips.
He let her go and she dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes. She grabbed her neck, coughing as she tried to settle her nerves.
Still standing over her said, "Know your place, Jevera. You of all people should know better than to tell me what to do. Get out before I change my mind."
"Thank you," she muttered. She immediately scrambled to her feet, grabbing her bleeding neck as she fled out of the study.
