Chapter 35: Gu Qinghe and Auction

***

One week later.

A streak of golden light flew across the sky above Gu Sheng City. Several clan guards looked up, realizing the light came from Gu Qinghe’s power.

He had returned to the Gu Clan after spending two months at the Yin-Yang Sect. Tomorrow would be the start of the auction in Minghua City.

Without any inspection, Gu Qinghe landed in the courtyard of the Gu Clan residence. No one came to greet him.

He walked forward while storing his sword, opened the door, and encountered one of the clan servants.

The servant informed him that all members of the family were currently gathered in the Clan Hall.

Is Gu Zhen here?

Hearing the servant’s words, Gu Qinghe immediately headed inside and pushed open the doors of the Clan Hall—a vast chamber supported by massive pillars where all clan members assembled.

When the doors opened, every elder and clan member turned their heads.

Gu Zhen sat upon the clan throne, his gaze fixed firmly on Gu Qinghe.

"Qinghe?"

He stood up, taking a large step forward, accompanied by the rumble of qi. The elders immediately sensed that his cultivation had advanced—he was now in the Core Formation realm.

"I didn’t expect you to reach Core Formation. Impressive," Gu Zhen praised.

Gu Qinghe glanced to the left, where the seats of the clan family members were located. Gu Yanxue sat there beside Gu Yanxing.

Gu Yanxing... he’s half a step into Nascent Soul.

Gu Qinghe stopped before the throne platform. He clasped his hands and lowered his head.

"Gu Qinghe greets Father."

"I heard from Elder Gu Han that you placed second in the Yin-Yang Sect Talent Tournament. How did you manage that?" Gu Zhen asked.

"I was merely fortunate."

"Luck doesn’t work like that. You should know that, Qinghe," Gu Zhen replied.

Gu Qinghe lifted his head and looked straight ahead.

There were two seats beside Gu Zhen. The one on the right was occupied by a beautiful middle-aged woman whose youthful appearance had hardly faded with time.

"Greetings, First Madam Gu."

She was Yan Ziyue, daughter of the Yan Clan and mother of Gu Yanxue and Gu Yanxing. She smiled and nodded, pleased to see Gu Qinghe return to the clan.

"What brings you here, Qinghe?" Gu Zhen asked.

"The auction in Minghua City is about to begin. I have already obtained permission from Sister Gu Yanxue to use the clan’s resources to compete for the Spirit Infant Pill."

The elders exchanged glances and began whispering among themselves.

Gu Yanxing looked sharply at Gu Qinghe. Everyone knew how valuable the Spirit Infant Pill was.

Among everyone present, only Gu Yanxing was suitable to consume it and use it to break through into the Nascent Soul realm.

Gu Zhen remained silent. Yanxue had indeed informed him of Gu Qinghe’s plan, but as the Clan Head, he had yet to make a final decision.

"Your cultivation is only Early Core Formation. That pill will not—"

"Father is mistaken," Gu Qinghe interrupted calmly. "I have no intention of using that pill. Instead, I plan to present it to Elder Brother Gu Yanxing."

Gu Yanxue gasped and instinctively looked at Gu Yanxing.

Gu Zhen reacted the same way, while Yan Ziyue seemed pleased with Gu Qinghe’s gesture.

Gu Yanxing smiled, stood up, and clasped his hands.

"I would be honored to receive such a gift from Brother Qinghe."

One of the elders nodded and added, "The Spirit Infant Pill would greatly help Young Master Gu Yanxing break through to Nascent Soul. If the Gu Clan gains two Nascent Soul cultivators, our clan’s prestige will rise even further."

Gu Zhen nodded several times before turning his sharp gaze toward Gu Qinghe.

"Very well. For Yanxing’s sake, I will support you, Gu Qinghe."

"What do you need?"

Gu Qinghe smiled and clasped his hands respectfully.

"High-grade spirit stones... and two Golden Core elders."

"Your request is granted," Gu Zhen declared.

He ordered one of the elders to prepare everything Gu Qinghe needed.

After expressing his thanks, Gu Qinghe slowly stepped back and prepared to leave.

Just as he opened the door, Gu Zhen called out again.

"Qinghe... have you visited your mother yet?"

Gu Qinghe’s fist tightened. The question reminded him of Gu Zhen’s selfish decision to send Wang Yunxi back to the Wang Clan.

Wang Yunxi had suffered countless injuries simply because she had married Gu Zhen.

He was certain Gu Zhen had no idea why the Meridian Ice Curse had fallen upon her.

Gu Qinghe turned around and looked directly at Gu Zhen without lowering his head.

"I have been too busy cultivating... I had no time to visit Mother."

"I see..."

"I will take my leave, Father."

The doors opened again as Gu Qinghe stepped out of the Clan Hall.

Two elders soon arrived to accompany him, each carrying several cloth bags filled with High-Grade Spirit Stones.

"How strong are your combat abilities?" Gu Qinghe asked.

The two elders bowed their heads.

"We are capable of fighting a Nascent Soul cultivator, Young Master."

Gu Qinghe nodded slightly.

"Besides... he hasn’t reached Nascent Soul yet."

"Let’s go."

The three of them flew from the clan courtyard and headed toward Minghua City.

The distance from Gu Sheng City to Minghua City was considerable, requiring eight hours of travel by flying sword.

During the journey, none of them spoke. They remained silent while vigilantly watching their surroundings, wary of any cultivators who might attempt an ambush.

Eight hours later, Minghua City appeared on the horizon.

Gu Qinghe increased his speed, the two clan elders following closely behind.

When they arrived near the city, Gu Qinghe’s gaze fixed upon the tall tower where the auction would be held.

Cultivators from all over had gathered here, each hoping to obtain valuable treasures. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

The three landed at the entrance of the auction tower. Several attendants were visibly startled when they recognized the Gu Clan’s young master.

"Isn’t that the Gu Clan?"

"I didn’t expect them to participate in this auction."

"Lower your voice. Don’t you see? Both of his guards are Golden Core cultivators."

Whispers quickly spread among the crowd—from wandering cultivators to representatives of various sects and clans.

"Welcome to the Minghua City Auction. Your seat is on the second floor, Young Master Gu."

An attendant led them upstairs to a private room.

The auction would begin tomorrow, giving Gu Qinghe and the two elders time to rest.

"If you need anything, you may contact me," the attendant said, handing him a token that allowed her to serve as the Gu Clan’s personal attendant.

Gu Qinghe nodded.

After the attendant left, Gu Qinghe formed a small orb of qi at the tip of his finger and shot it toward the door.

Instantly, the entire room became sealed with qi.

Any cultivator who tried to spy on them with spiritual sense would have their consciousness shattered.

The two elders looked shocked—they had not expected Gu Qinghe to master such a soul-sealing technique.

"What should we do, Young Master?" one of them asked.

Gu Qinghe turned to face them.

He produced a token containing a list of herbal ingredients and handed it over.

"One of you go and find these materials."

One elder accepted the token and examined the contents. His expression froze in surprise, but before he could speak, Gu Qinghe cut him off.

"Just do it. I need those materials today."
