Chapter 60: Chapter 60: We’re Gonna Die

As soon as the notification ended the works cracked and shattered, the illusion disappeared like smoke.

Akaris found himself in a dark place, he could feel something surrounding him like cocoon.

He punched and his fist bounced back, it was hard like concrete, he couldn’t use his sword or bow in this confined space.

So he gathered his mana inside him for more five seconds, nearly 500 points of mana were invested.

Then he used mana wave, he contained its size to increase its strength and a dark blue wave of mana spread out.

It was as solid as steel, it shattered the cocoon into fragments and he fell out. He landed on the ground and groaned.

He felt weak like something had been draining his energy, he looked up and realised what had happened.

The cocoon he fell off was made of vines handing from the tree and the ground was red with tree sap.

As soon as his body touched the sap he felt something trying to invade his mind, the sap was the cause of their illusion.

He realised they were probably trapped in the illusion as soon as they reached within 500 metres of the hill.

The tree roots spread that far and the red sap had tainted the ground, no wonder they felt like running towards the tree was safe, it was already drawing them in.

He shivered realising how dangerous this tree was and the fact that it was able to convince them it was safe was even more terrifying.

Akaris stood up and drew his bow, his arrow pierced the vine holding the cocoon that was holding Oriana.

He looked up and saw hundreds of fruits hanging above but none of them were actual fruits but cocoons.

He realised it had killed many people and trapped them inside those cocoons, fortunately the one with Oriana was easy to find.

It was new and wasn’t done forming, his arrow failed to cut the vine and he shot another finally taking it down.

He didn’t take her out of the cocoon, unlike him she didn’t have will of Steel, if she touches the sap she’ll be trapped again.

He summoned his echo and mounted it, he could feel the sap trying to invade his mind through contact with his echo.

He couldn’t even understand how it can possess such power, they jumped off the hill and ran down like they were falling.

The echo immediately sprinted to the distance, fortunately it was the time of the sunless dawn and there was no blood sea.

However he didn’t know how much time had passed and how long before the blood moon rises again.

As soon as they left the range of the tree he ordered his echo to attack wildly, it swung its tentacles everywhere.

Undead were sent flying and crashing everywhere, he used bolster and burnt the undead around him.

However he wasn’t idle and also swung his sword cutting down any undead that came close.

Being cut down by a sword burning witj holy light made them burn even faster than just being under bolster.

However getting through such a large number of undead was easier said than done.

Fortunately the nearest high point was not too far, unfortunately it was too steep and he didn’t know if he’ll able to climb it.

Then he heard a loud roar behind him, " Shit shit shit." He cursed and slashed the cocoon and freed Oriana.

As soon as the holy light of bolster touched her it cleared her mind and she woke up, her eyes were as cold as ice.

He could feel a terrifying killing intent emanating from her, she didn’t need to be told what happened.

As soon as she woke up and saw her surroundings she knew she had been trapped in an illusion.

" Thank you." She thanked him then turned her cold gaze towards the distant tree and growled like a beast.

" That fucken piss of stupid shit will pay someday." She cursed and Akaris sighed, that foul language was definitely hers.

They were no longer in an illusion, he was 99 percent sure of that, Oriana waved her hand and the giant sword appeared on her hand

She swung it in a wide arc taking out multiple undead, they joined back together of course but that took time.

By the time they returned to normal, his echo was long gone. In the distance they saw a massive creature with green flames for eyes chasing them.

" Shit." He cursed outloud and she too clicked her tongue.

" We’re fucked aren’t we?" She asked and he nodded.

The thing chasing them was exactly the tiger which looked like the king of undead here, its speed was far above that of his echo.

Each of its steps shook the ground and before long it had closed a large distance towards them.

Akaris had already drawn his bowstring and formed an exploding arrow but he didn’t release it.

He continued pouring more and more mana into it until the arrow started shaking and glowing like it would explode.

He released it, it pierced through the dark sky like a blue streak, the tiger did not bother dodging.

It roared and swung a massive paw at the arrow, when they collided they met a brief statement then BOOOOM.

The arrow exploded, the explosion was louder and larger than any created by his former arrows.

A wave of flames looking mana spread out covering nearly 20 metres, all the undead around were destroyed to bone dust.

Then the shockwave followed, it spread out like a bubble ripping the ground apart and destroying the undead.

It stopped after spreading for nearly a hundred metres, a cloud of dust formed but his vision was not impended by it.

Through the dust he saw the mangled paw if the tiger but that was far as the damage went.

And this was only possible because he had a lot of time to prepare the arrow, had it been his normal exploding arrow, it might not have caused even scratch.

He turned and looked at Oriana, " Yeah we’re gonna die."
