Chapter 49: Chapter 49:Orientation [3]

With my head out the window, I could barely hear anything due to all the wind, but I swore I heard a faint and furious scream.

"THAT’S BECAUSE THEY’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO OPEN!"

Ignoring the carriage driver, Daisy pushed me aside and attempted to reach her head out the window, but she could barely even get her neck out.

Compared to my astonishing height of 5’9, she was three inches shorter, making me wonder if she was really older than me.

With both our heads out the window, Daisy expectantly stared up at me while mouing some words.

Again, I couldn’t really hear anything due to the wind, but with my lip-reading skills, I believed she said something like this.

"I just saved your life, and you really can’t even help me look out a window!?"

Taking one last whiff of the salty scent outside, I retreated back inside the carriage, immediately hearing a barrage of curses echo from the driver ahead.

He definitely wouldn’t be getting a tip from me.

Although I knew she probably couldn’t hear me, I still leaned down and counted down from three.

"3!"

"2!"

"1"

Then, using my awakened strength, I grabbed the bottom of her shoes, allowing them to rest on my palms, and slowly raised them upward.

However, at that moment, the carriage suddenly and abruptly halted, causing Daisy to go flying out the window.

Since none of her body was touching any part of the carriage, the sudden halt caused her to go flying straight out.

As a loud sound echoed from outside, I immediately reached my head out the window and looked forward.

Flying headfirst and straight into the concrete of the street, Daisy slowly raised her revolver before pointing it at the ground.

*BANG*

While the bullet of the revolver embedded itself into the concrete, the force from shooting the gun suddenly boosted Daisy up into the air.

Then, like an acrobat, Daisy did a flip in the air before perfectly landing on the ground.

Before I could even show any reaction, a hand suddenly appeared in front of me with a furious voice following.

"The fare and window repair fee will be one silver coin and three bronze coins."

Letting out a dry cough, I found a folded-up piece of paper on the ground before removing my pen from my pocket.

Then, actually using the pen for its intended purpose, I scribbled on the paper the following words:

"Official Check of one silver coin and four bronze coins from Bertus. Intended recipient: ____"

Bertus was a rich guy from a very wealthy and high-class family who joined the hero’s cohort at the academy, so he could definitely muster up the money.

Handing the confused taxi driver the paper note, I opened the carriage and jumped out, immediately embracing the sea-salt smell of the sea.

Looking forward, I realized that I was no longer in the capital city, but now, standing on the famous bridge that connected the city to Glaive.

Ignoring Daisy, I rushed to the edge of the bridge and peered over the railing, watching the waves of the ocean rush against the shore of the capital city.

It was...memorizing.

Being from a very populated town back on Earth in the middle of the country, I had rarely gotten to see the ocean.

Even back on Earth, I would have had the same reaction upon seeing the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean.

Snapping me back to reality, Daisy’s voice echoed ahead.

"Academy check-in is at the gate, and now that you’re here, my job is done!"

Although the ocean surrounded the Glaive island, this was probably the closest I’d get to it for a while.

Once you entered Glaive, you wouldn’t be able to leave until the first break, and there were dozens of barriers and security measures to prevent students from sneaking out.

Smiling, I turned around and headed forward, already seeing carriages with students arriving behind me.

I had already forgiven beauty and fun.

Despite my mind’s opposing thoughts, I had chosen strength.

Evangel needed someone to fight at the end of her long journey as a hero, didn’t she?

After a silent five-minute walk across the massive bridge, I finally arrived at the academy’s entrance gate.

Rather than being heavily guarded like airport security, it was more like the security system of a subway or train station on Earth.

Blocking the way ahead, a large and horizontal metal bar stood, and while you could easily duck or jump over it, I didn’t dare to.

Following the other students ahead, I simply placed my hand on a flat metal podium in front of the bar, allowing a bit of mana to leak out.

While controlling mana was extremely hard, an awakened individual could easily lose or let their mana leak out intentionally by pretending to activate a skill, even if they had no skill.

I had simply told my head to activate a mana-using teleportion skill, which I definitely didn’t have, and thus, with nowhere to go, my mana simply left my body.

As a droplet of my ocean-blue mana touched the top of the podium, the bar immediately swung upward so that it was vertical, revealing the view of the academy ahead.

Instead of fingerprints in this world, mana was used by the government and military to keep track of enlightened and awakened individuals.

Walking past the point of no return and through the academy gates, I was immediately confronted with a long staircase.

On both sides of the metal path and staircase ahead, there was a massive forest that seemed to encircle the entire island.

Following behind the students, who were similarly dressed to me, I walked upward.

And, there in front of me and atop the staircase, lay the infamous academy plaza, surrounded by buildings on all sides except the front.

Usually, it would be loud and full of students, but today, hundreds of chairs were lined up in front of a massive stage.

The usual busy and famous shops and restaurants within the plaza were closed, and on the stage lay a banner that read, "Orientation starts in [00:01:02]"
