Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 569: The unthinkable
The party was just starting indeed...
As the dust rose from every part of the court, one side, the northern one stood out with the color of the soot blinding everyone.
It carried these violet looking particles that mingled with the rest, but that wasn’t the most impressive thing about it.
All of the soldiers that nicked it seemed to drop to the ground one after the other like flies. Not one exception was made as every soul that entered that haze succumbed to its mysterious powers.
Only one silhouette stood tall among the ocean of slumbering men. A woman that Ada instantly recognized.
The scream intertwined with a laughter that she emitted came from the depth of her soul. Tears followed as on the other side of the court, towards the eastern wall, another woman held her own against an entire flock of soldiers that hurled themselves at her, trying with all of their might to cut her down but Allegra did not waver, cutting before they did her.
"Would you care for my grandson, young Lady?" Rubius towered over Ada, bending down to meet her eyes.
She hadn’t even noticed that her knees had touched the wood supporting their weight.
"He’s been catatonic since I first laid eyes on him after my return," the old man rubbed at his free, and very much unbroken, neck, "I doubt he’ll be able to fight,"
"Yes...Yes of course!" she leaped to her feet and ran over towards Arthur.
Taking a sword was out of the question. Ada never even learned how to hold one, let alone wielding it.
Edgar was a natural, swaying the weapon as though it was just another part of his own body, warding off every soldier that ascended the stairs towards them.
Rubius too held his own despite his old age, even though he did so a bit slower than Edgar.
Looking straight ahead at the platform facing them, the announcer as well as the dukes vanished. Only the Generals who rushed down to the battlefield and a frantic crown prince remained.
He was screaming something that no one cared to listen to even though he did so through the voice amplifier.
The scaffolding shook again, prompting Arthur to fall onto his ass. Ada followed, putting her arms around his figure to support him. In the end, considering he was much heavier than her, she only managed to lean him against her lap and kept watch for the soldiers that climbed the standing pillars to avoid the stairs.
Alpha Cynric, Allegra and madame Morgana were all busy ripping their way through those men. Edgar and Rubius had their hands full as well, leaving her behind, utterly defenseless.
"Edgar!" she screamed as two soldiers managed to climb their way onto the platform.
He looked back but was swamped, holding two men off at once. Rubius was not free to help her with the approaching danger.
"Run!" Edgar yelled back.
"I cannot leave Arthur here!" Ada cried, carrying him was out of the question too.
Not to mention, her bones still ached from the beating they had subjected her to starting from the previous night.
The fact that she had managed to stand at all was a miracle on its own.
The first one to step onto the scaffolding brandished his sword high ready to strike her down and ran straight in her direction.
Ada only had the time to throw herself protectively over Arthur and shut her eyes.
Seconds came and went and nothing happened. No devastating blow split her head into two halves, not a kick or a punch.
The longer it went on, the more something became more obvious... The quiet that claimed the space so that the sound of wind would be the sole melody maker.
Then came the whispers and... The choking sounds.
Ada reopened her eyes very slowly, still aware of the mass blocking the sunlight from reaching her.
It took her twice as long to finally turn around. The realization of who it was that stood behind her caused her hand to fly towards her mouth as she gasped.
"Oh Lord!" Ada cried, "You have finally come,"
"The silver warrior!"
"He’s escaped!"
The murmurs exploded into full blown howls as Silas stood there on the scene in his full glory, hand around the soldier’s throat but his eyes... His eyes went straight for Cedric.
"Do all of you finally see it?" Cedric’s voice rose again and for once, his words were intelligible, "Do you believe me when I tell you they have come to wreak havoc on our land? Do you agree when I say, they must be stopped! They must be put in the place where they truly belong!"
Without any effort from him, Silas tossed the man off the stage and turned to Ada, "Drink!" he ordered bringing his bloodied hand towards her mouth.
"What?" she squeaked, instinctively leaning away.
"It’ll heal you at once,"
She did not argue any further and allowed the surge of life to rejuvenate her streams. Her wrists, legs, face... Nothing felt sore anymore.
"Where is my wife? I can smell her but there is too much blood around. I am still a bit disoriented," he admitted with the blankest face to ever decorate his features.
"One of the Generals took her away," Ada stuttered through that one sentence.
By the time they raised their heads back towards the prince, the man was still going on and on about dominating and prevailing and whatnot.
"Get the weapons ready!" he finally screeched while Silas offered his blood to Edgar.
One look at the vampire and it was clear, he was getting ready to leap across the field and reach for the prince but before that could happen, the unthinkable beat it to the mark.
The deafening cry of a war horn shut everything and everyone up at once.
The sound came nowhere from the court or the stages aligned for his majesty but instead from one of the balconies that gave view on the rear court.
From the castle, and on that very balcony stood an older man, decorated with golden regalia. The most remarkable piece on him being the great crown atop his head.
