Chapter 600: Mother?

Neither had much to share since their conversation earlier that day. Although the silence between them remained cozy, Arabella’s mind rewound past that and straight back to the kiss they had the previous night... That one too was left undiscussed after the fact as their thoughts and emotions were left to each other’s imagination.

No aching plagued her heart, but the weight dragging it downwards persisted, nonetheless. The weight of many things combined.

Things such as the state of their relationship after everything, the state of her brother, the upcoming meeting with the council as well as the funeral of Reubon who had caused so much grief when his role should have been to strive for the opposite.

Sitting in a cold mind pocket of her own, she wondered how life would have panned out had she been born to a father such as Baron Ironheart.

"What goes through your mind?"

The question was enough of a reminder that Silas still ambled the hallways beside her.

Deep, steady yet warm his voice was, allowing her a gentle retrieve back into reality.

Her eyes landed on him, but no words followed.

"If you still have doubts, we can pay the doctors a visit right this moment," he added, "That should put your worries at ease,"

"No!" she squeaked, "I do trust your senses," she gave quick nods while turning to stare ahead of them, "Not to mention, Ada’s test results were convincing enough as it was,"

His diamonds followed her gaze after that as their feet led them towards the gardens’ doors.

"And...," he broke the silence once more. Only that time around, he sounded hesitant, "How are you feeling about the matter?" he cleared his throat at the end there.

The speed at which her eyebrows snapped into a furrowed position rivaled his own capacities as a vampire.

"I, most certainly, feel relieved and delivered, of course!" the indignation in her voice wasn’t as subtle as she tried to make it.

Of course! What else was she supposed to feel about it? Even seeing the expression on him led her to believe he had expected a different answer.

"That’s good," he nodded.

That was it and nothing else.

Her mouth opened then closed a few times without a sound ever escaping her throat. After all, how was she supposed to put it? If even he couldn’t speak his mind, what was she supposed to do about it?

By then, the two of them were already out of the manor, inhaling the very freedom that the night brought along.

Very noticeable in the distance, Grace had locked her arm with none other than Arthur again and dragged him around as she spoke without a stop sign in sight.

"Are you sure you do not wish to rescue him?" Silas spoke with the blankest of expressions as though most serious and yet his words were anything but that.

In reply, she chuckled, "I am afraid I’ve already done all I can for him,"

"Hopefully, the damage she’s causing him isn’t beyond repair," he added, "He still hasn’t said a word, has he?"

The smile on Arabella dimmed a tad, "He hasn’t," she shook her head, "I don’t know if he ever will,"

That mere contemplation set the screaming voices in her head back off.

Despite her previously joking about it, Arabella truly resigned to believing she had already done all that was in her power to do for his wellbeing.

So... Was that state truly what he was going to be condemned to be for the rest of his life?

Grace did not seem to pay much attention to their arrival in the gardens, however something else had clearly caught her heed.

Towards the tall trees lining the property her eyes shot at, mouth stuck agape and brows furrowing one second then climbing higher up her forehead the very next.

"We’ve got visitors," Silas captured Arabella’s attention next, his eyes on the same tall trees.

Since he was not particularly alarmed, she assumed it was no one that posed any danger to them.

The only person who would come through the trees instead of the main gates would be Remus but... He said visitors as in not a single visitor. Did Cynric tag along? That did not explain the rattled expression on Grace at all.

Before the question left her mouth, two silhouettes appeared through the trees. Too far and blurry for her eyes to fully discern but a few key details jumped out.

Namely, how one figure was much smaller than the second and how the taller one seemed feminine, wrapped around white covers that resembled the ones Allegra had on during their latest visit to the caverns.

"Oh my! Is it...?" she could not finish her question.

"It is," Silas nodded, following Grace who had made sure to untwine Arthur’s arm from hers before dashing towards the visitors.

Remus broke away from Allegra and did his usual dance of running at full speed only to halt right before wrapping his arms around Arabella.

"I am back!" he chirped, leaping in place.

The boy then took Arabella’s hand and tugged her towards Grace and Allegra who were already hugging and sobbing on each other’s shoulders.

It took them a good second, but when they finally set each other free, Allegra’s eyes immediately locked with Silas’.

The vampiress took a few, careful steps towards him at first, as though assessing his reaction.

When he did and said nothing to oppose her proximity, she took off his way, hurling herself only to cling to him and cry harder than she did before.

Silas stood still for a second before wrapping his own arms around her.

Arabella waited quietly for her turn to come until it did.

To a human such as her, Allegra’s scent had changed but only to a stunted extent. She could only imagine what the vampires smelled in her.

"Mother wanted to come see her family, so I volunteered to accompany her!"

All heads snapped onto Remus who had just spoken.

"Mother?" Arabella’s head tilted to the side.
