Chapter 44: First night (1)

"It is not too late to get out of this. I work in the court so I have a way to end this marriage in secret," Isaac offered Selene.

Even after attending the small ceremony on Xavier’s estate, Isaac was yet to get used to the fact Xavier was now married to Selene of all people.

Isaac would have never thought of Selene among the women to marry Xavier.

"Thank you but I want to stay in this marriage. You should be careful since Xavier will hear you. I want to thank you now for attending. It was too short notice for my friend to attend so I am glad Xavier had a friend to attend," said Selene.

"Oh, you are mistaken. I am not friends with Xavier. We meet to speak of matters concerning the kingdom at times."

"Then, if you have met many times and you have attended his wedding, aren’t you friends?" Selene asked, puzzled by the relationship the two had. "Is it bad to say you are his friend?"

"It is. The king would call upon me to know about Xavier and quite frankly, I would like Xavier to stop finding his way to my side. Trouble follows wherever he goes with his enemies becoming mine. I was waiting for him to go into a long slumber. I had the wine to celebrate ready but those plans have changed,’ Isaac sighed.

"I can hear it in your voice that you partially blame me. I am sorry he won’t be going into his coffin right now. I will send a gift to make up for it," Selene offered but she believed there was a chance Isaac might miss Xavier if he were to sleep.

Isaac held up his hand to stop Selene. "That won’t be necessary. You keeping him busy is all I need."

Selene smiled since she was going to disappoint Isaac with her answer. "I am looking forward to the days you keep him busy. I am thanking you ahead of time."

"Me? Why would you marry him just not to enjoy his company? Your arrival is the one thing to make up for him not going to sleep. Why can’t you be around him? He is kind to those he cares for, protective, and a wonderful soul to be around," Isaac praised Xavier.

Isaac closed his eyes, regretting his words because of Xavier’s arrival.

"I didn’t know you thought highly of me. You once said that I didn’t have a soul. It is true but it is good to know you think I have a soul. I did not think you would say it to my wife but not to me. It is good that I have good hearing. Thank you," Xavier patted Isaac’s back.

"It is time that I leave. Congratulations on your wedding. May it last a thousand but if it does not, you still have the coffin. I can take some time away from the court to help you with anything you need regarding the coffin," Isaac offered but soon took his hand off Xavier.

"You are wishing for my marriage to be ruined though it just started? How rude of you. I should kill you for that," Xavier said, but he wouldn’t go so far. "You are lucky that I like you."

"Lucky my ass," Isaac muttered. This wasn’t luck at all.

"I don’t want any more blood spilt on my wedding day. We are lucky to have not done all parts of the blood wedding. It was lovely to have you here, Isaac. Be safe on your way back." Selene sent Isaac off.

Isaac was more than happy to leave. Xavier was in Selene’s hands now.

Selene waited for Isaac to leave to then ask Xavier, "Did you see your mother off?" freёnovelkiss.com

"Yes. She was in a rush to leave so the wedding night would not be disturbed. She also wants to keep an eye on my father so he will not come here. Even if he makes it so far, the guards will take care of him," Xavier promised Selene.

"Yes, your mystery guards will take care of it. I will find them one day. It is just the two of us left now," Selene said. She looked down at the black dress she decided to wear for her wedding. "It went by so fast."

Xavier knelt before Selene so he would be at the level of the chair she sat on. "It was small so there wasn’t much planning to do and our guests were gone. What would you like to do now? Distract yourself with the gifts prepared?"

Selene glanced at the gifts Josephine was kind to bring. Since there weren’t any other guests aside from Josephine and Isaac, Josephine acted as if those who couldn’t attend sent gifts. "The gifts could wait for later. I need blood and to get out of this dress. It is beautiful but it is far too much to wear for too long."

"Agnes has moved the last of what I was using to your- Our room," Selene corrected herself. "I should go there now to get out of this wedding dress. I think your mother made a stop in the room."

"She is doing what she thinks will bring a grandchild for her sooner. I will have it taken out of the room. You should go ahead to get changed and then go to bed," Xavier said as he stood up. He offered his hand to help Selene up.

Selene looked at the evening sky before she accepted Xavier’s hand. "It is too early for a pureblood to go to bed. I will open the gifts when you are ready and have one last look at the decorations before they are taken down. We will have our dinner together, right?"

"Why would it change tonight? I will be there to sit with you. Your maid is waiting," Xavier said, taking notice of Agnes but his gaze was still fixed on Selene. "You should reconsider my option of getting a portrait done. You look too lovely in the dress not to."

"It has been some time since I did one. It would be good to have one. I will leave it to you to arrange the painter you use to do our portrait. I am not doing it alone, right?" Selene asked, not wanting that.

"No. I will join you. You should go before the dress gets the best of you."

"Right," Selene lifted the dress to make it easier to walk. She headed to Agnes so they could go to her new room.

Agnes helped to lift Selene’s dress for her. "If only you could wear this a little more. You were so beautiful today."

"It is beautiful but it is starting to become uncomfortable. I need something light I can walk around in for now since I am not ready to go to bed. What is it?" Selene asked after noticing Agnes had a question.

"Forgive me. I was thinking that this is your wedding night. Should I prepare you for that as well?" Agnes asked.

"No. Just prepare me for bed as you always do. Do not speak of it until we reach the room," Selene said, wanting to avoid anyone eavesdropping from hearing how she would spend the night.

It was expected that she and Xavier would be intimate but that was far from what would happen tonight.
