Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Jeff (1)

"Sir, all preparations are complete. We have taken all situations into consideration and we’re assured that absolutely nothing will go wrong. The project can start as soon as you give permission." A young man wearing a business suit said to the man sitting down.

This young man had a deadpan expression, he looked like someone who made a living from not showing an expression. In front of this young man was a desk made from sandalwood and there were also wooden chairs made from sandalwood. Sitting opposite the young man who remained standing was a middle aged man.

One could tell at a single glance that this middle aged man was neither simple nor kind even though he had a friendly smile and amicable aura surrounding his visage. His eyes were deep, sharp and showed signs of intelligence. He was also wearing a business suit but he wore a red coloured one. This man was Jeff, an entrepreneur and businessman who ran a very successful business.

"How sure are you of completing this project successfully? You do know that I spent years concocting the perfect plan right. Haste makes waste and I don’t mind waiting a little bit longer to increase my chances of the perfect plan. This project is my number one priority, nothing must go wrong!" said Jeff with a serious expression.

"Worry not Sir, your plan is foolproof and we’ve already obtained all the necessary tools needed to accomplish it perfectly. If he continues to wait then by the time we act, it might be already too late. I’ll personally take charge of this mission to ensure that nothing goes wrong."

"Jimmy, you’ve been with me ever since I came to this world and your performance has me in awe of your capabilities. I’d hate to have to get rid of you since you’re very competent. Make sure that the mission succeeds! My life depends on it, got that!"

"I won’t disappoint you Sir!"

Jeff looked at his System Notification with red eyes. He had started playing System Online from as early as when it was released. From a young age, Jeff has always wanted to be a powerful businessman with millions to spend but all business ideas in reality had already been started. Jeff didn’t despair since he was young, ambitious and a dreamer.

He grew up in the streets and the streets took care of him. He had saved up enough money to buy the game helmet since he couldn’t afford the pod even though it was relatively cheap in everyone’s eyes. With the cheap phone he had, he’d often read Manhwas and Manhuas about starting a business and managing it.

He also learnt his business strategies from them and thought of implementing them in the game. When he entered the game, he had initially planned on remaining low key while slowly building his empire and making money. But as soon as he entered the game, he was given the option to change his life and wasted no time in grabbing it with both hands.

It was his selfmade system, the Apocalypse Merchant System. He had created this system with the plan of teleporting to Taboo Lands where resources were scarce to do trades with the players there. Everything worked fine and he was making money. He could enter and leave restricted, dangerous and blacklisted areas and do trades.

Business was booming but unfortunately good things must come to an end. Jeff was suddenly met with competition from other gamers and even other NPC’s who wanted to monopolise his business. But it wasn’t competition from one player or one NPC but millions of them.

Jeff knew that this day would come and he had swore earlier on that he’d do anything in his power to protect his business even if it meant resorting to underhanded tricks. For a street kid, Jeff had no qualms about playing dirty.

He then left the game and started to track some of the players in real life and also joined a gang. The gang saw potential in him and decided to aid him in his endeavours.

The players that they managed to track down, were all brutally murdered and they had recorded the entire process and posted it on the internet with the caption, "Don’t mess with us!".

As all those who were murdered were merchants in the game world, it was easy to discover that this gang targeted them. Many chose to start over but a few weren’t willing and continued to be stubborn.

Jeff let these players do as they wished and bade his time, waiting patiently for a moment to strike. He was like a snake on the hunt for food. Then after a year of investigating, they finally managed to locate the stubborn players in real life, then they killed them and exterminated their families.

Finally those remaining quit the game all together and never wanted anything to do with it. What was even more shocking was the news that came after many players quit System Online. A week after the gang had killed these players and their families, there was a news report about a gang being completely wiped out.

All of them were found in their own homes with their brains fried into a fully cooked state. A message was sent by the game company that made its players sigh in relief.

[Player killing in real life will not be tolerated and this batch of delinquents will be used to set an example to the rest of you. Just because I keep quiet, doesn’t mean I don’t know anything.]

People thought that one of the game developers had taken revenge for the players and then sent a message. Not knowing that the game developers themselves were scared shitless by this message which was sent by the game to the public.

Only Jeff survived this incident and was recruited by another boss and mastered the art of gangsterism. From exploitation, all the way to killing and raping. He had become a fully fledged gangsta and just when he was planning on starting a business as the new gang leader, the apocalypse happened and he found himself in this world.

The first thing that happened to him when he woke up was the message he received directly through his mind.

...

Ever since he’d come to this world, he had been doing nothing but completing missions for the System which he remembered clearly. It was the system he’d created back when he first played System Online.

Never did he expect that the System he’d created when he was still young would accompany him to this world. At first, he didn’t know just how good of an opportunity he had until he started to experiment. It was only then that he realised the benefits of his system.
