Courting Death System-Chapter 87: Bleep, bleep

"Cedric, have we finally reached home?"

"No time to explain, we’re under attack! Quickly arm yourself and head to the vault! It’s an emergency!" said the panicked Cedric before running away, leaving the drowsy confused.

<Get your asses on the fucking vault ASAP! The ship is under attack for fucks sake!> said Captain Bling through the speakers. The crewmates were startled before fumbling around like headless chickens and rushed off after Cedric.

Once fully armed and geared, they once again asked Cedric what was going on through the earpiece but Cedric didn’t answer them.

<Come to the vault, I’ll explain everything once you’re here!>

The full team was a hundred strong and entered the elevator that would take them straight to the spaceship’ vault where all valuables were kept, including the most valuable thing they’d obtained close to planet XX112, on planet XX227 to be exact and now, Rus was also coming for this treasure.

"Now that we’re here, what the fuck is going on?!" asked Juliet coldly.

"Let me start from the beginning so that you understand how we got to this situation. This all started when..." Cedric then quickly explained the whole story to the crewmates without leaving out anything.

"The reason I’m telling you is so that you don’t throw your lives away because of the captain’s stupid decisions."

"Cedric, I know you’re angry but you can’t talk like that about the captain, even if it’s behind his back!" said another crewmate. In response, Cedric laughed so hard his stomach hurt.

"You fool of a bootlicker, if his actions aren’t foolish then what are they?! Rus has already gotten the Space Rats Abilities, how are you going to fight something that can phase through walls and we also can’t see it? Tell me!" sneered Cedric.

"Cedric, calm down, we’re all on the same side. Just tell us what your plan is and we’ll follow through with it." said Juliet as she tried to calm Cedric down.

"Honestly, I’m not planning on attacking Rus and I suggest you do the same. Currently, we don’t have enmity with him and he seemed like a chilled person, attacking him feels like suicide and I’m not willing to take the risk. That bastard should take care of this himself. If you guys wish to die then I won’t stop you but I won’t be part of it." said Cedric before sitting down and closing his eyes like he was meditating.

The others were shocked by Cedric’s actions because they had never seen him act so cowardly. Even in unfavourable conditions, Cedric had always remained headstrong and optimistic, never succumbing to despair, but now...

"Cedric, at least tell us why you’re giving up without a fight," said another crewmate.

"Clarence, we’re under the effects of fifty times the gravitational force that we’re not used to, if not for our Battle Suits then we would have been crushed to death the instant we stepped out. This Rus guy can somehow travel in such a harsh environment without suffering any injuries and even go to the freezer to eat. When I said he had an apex predator’s gaze, I wasn’t joking. Now the ball is in your court, don’t include me." said Cedric.

BOOOOOM!!!

Suddenly, something landed hard on the vault floor and for a second, it could be seen with one’s eyes. It was about two meters tall from head to hoof, curved horns on its head, pitch black eyes, a fork tongue, human torso and mountain goat lower half. The crewmates had never seen something so terrifying and after a second, it disappeared.

"WHAT WAS THAT? WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?" shouted one of the crewmates.

"Rus, that was Rus that we captured on that barren planet." Cedric answered.

"But he wasn’t a chimera when we captured him, why is he like that, " another crewmate asked.

"Didn’t I tell you, the captain woke up the monster in him. Anyway, what are you going to do?"

"Fuck this shit! I’m not participating!"

"Me too!"

"Me three."

Almost all the crewmates had thrown the towel except for those who wanted to bootlick and obtain some benefits. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

<WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GUYS DOING? ATTACK! ATTACK THAT MONSTER THIS INSTANT!> shouted Bling but everyone just ignored him.

Rus ignored everyone and even walked past them but they didn’t feel him walking by and he even walked through the wall where treasures he’d never seen before filled the room.

’Ah, there it is,’ he thought.

At the centre of the vault was a hexagonal coffin made from very strong metal. The coffin was so strong that it couldn’t be destroyed nor forcefully opened by ordinary means. Rus finally turned off his spatial ability and touched the coffin. He tried punching it and his hand felt numb, he tried to open it but didn’t know how.

’If this also doesn’t work then I guess whatever is inside isn’t made for me.’ he said inwardly. His mouth turned circular, filled with razor sharp teeth like a leech’s mouth and bit the coffin. His teeth then slowly chipped away at the coffin and he’d swallow the bitten off metal pieces. The process was slow but it was working, while chewing through the coffin, Captain Bling came to the vault floor.

"Cedric, since you haven’t been following orders, you’re hereby dismissed off your duties!" said the captain.

"No problem." said Cedric, stood up and walked away nonchalantly which pissed off the captain even more.

Tsuuu!

An energy beam bullet easily punctured through Cedric’s chest from the back and out in front.

Plop!

Cedric fell heavily on the metallic floor, his death, only seconds or minutes away if he didn’t get any immediate treatment.

"Captain, why did you shoot him?" asked Juliet.

"Bitch, don’t ask questions you shouldn’t, just follow my instructions and you’ll be safe, are we clear? Are we clear?!" said Bling with a crazed expression, now, even Clarence was afraid of the captain.

"Now, prepare for battle, when I open this door, kill that monster for me! It’s better dead than aliv..."

Tsuuu!

The captain’s head then disappeared from his body, shot cleanly off by yours truly.

"If I’m going to die then I’m taking you with me you crazy bastard!"

"Cedric! Cedric! Hold on, we’re gonna get you medical treatment ASAP!" said Juliet and they took Cedric away. The other crewmates looked at the captain’s corpse and the elevator and the vault door.

"Fuck this shit, I’m going back to sleep!"

"Me too."

"Me three."

Many crewmates also left and only Clarence remained behind.

"Captain, what happened to you?" asked Clarence but he wouldn’t get an answer. He then sat cross legged and faced the vault door. A few minutes later, the Super Gravity was turned off and peace returned to the spaceship.

Days later, Rus finally managed to chew through most of the coffin and what surprised him was that the corpse inside the coffin hadn’t turned to bones, the person inside simply looked like he was sleeping.

"Wow, just when did you die, yesterday?" jokingly said Rus as he devoured the pale skinned, handsome man with red eyes and wearing weird but somewhat elegant clothes.

"Delicious." said Rus after completely devouring the man but soon after, he felt something invade and attack his consciousness, something powerful, very powerful.

ROOOAAARRR!!!

Rus clutched his head and roared in pain, he also changed into many creatures and crashed into the vault walls.

"GET OUT OF MY HEAD! GET OUT OF MY HEAD! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!" he shouted.

In his consciousness, a crimson bat-like creature was slowly devouring the myriad transforming Rus and he was completely helpless against it. He tried to bite back but the red bat would regenerate the missing body parts so it was a pointless struggle.

In his entire life, Rus had never come across something so terrifying and obscene, he’d never seen a creature that even though dead could still come back to life and devour the consciousness of its victims.

"Cedric, shouldn’t we stop Rus from obtaining "That" thing, the records clearly stated that once awakened, only blood and husks of flesh would remain."

"The Vampire King, Vlades Klepes. Don’t worry, if worse comes to worst, we’ll just self-destruct the ship to ensure our civilization’s survival. But I don’t think it will come to that. Rus is strong, very strong."

"Why do you think so?"

"His eyes. Those aren’t the eyes of a weakling, those are the eyes of someone who started low but climbed his way all the way to the top. There’s toppling him because people like that, resort to anything to remain up there, even if it means using underhanded methods. Once an apex predator, always an apex predator."

"You bastard! I could’ve just given you another body if you asked but since you chose to be my enemy... then go fucking die! ACTIVATE CONSCIOUSNESS ERASER!"
