Chapter 69: Ronan Is Waiting For A Kiss

In the backyard of the manor, a dozen people were making frostberry jam from the frostberries they harvested from the forest behind the manor. The crowd immediately halted what they were doing when one of them noticed the presence of the king.

They all immediately stood up to bow respectfully to Ronan. Arielle, who was enjoying the Frostberry jam from her bowl, looked around in confusion. Then, her attention turned to the king who was walking towards her. Arielle stood up but did not bow like the others.

Instead, her attention focused on someone else.

"Hmm?" Arielle furrowed her brows when she saw a woman in a yellow dress standing not far from the manor door. Who was that girl?

Arielle’s attention was again distracted when Ronan cupped her face.

"How much have you eaten?" asked Ronan as he reached for Arielle’s bowl.

The man offhandedly gestured to Sebastian. He wanted the people there to give him a private space to talk to Arielle for a while. Both Tania and Sebastian understood their duty and led everyone working in the backyard to leave the place for a while.

Someone didn’t get the message, though. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Fiona Coley swatted the butler’s hand away when Sebastian also asked her, Duke Coley’s daughter, to leave the backyard as well. The woman ignored the man, kept on walking, and then stopped behind the king.

Ronan, who didn’t like his time with Arielle being interrupted, glanced back sharply.

"Don’t you know who I am?" asked Ronan. He gritted his teeth because Fiona didn’t want to leave the two of them alone.

Arielle, who didn’t understand what was happening, only glanced at the king and the woman in the yellow dress alternately.

"Sorry for my impudence, Your Majesty. But it looks like you have accidentally left this invitation letter," said Fiona. She held out her birthday invitation again.

Ronan turned to face Fiona.

"You’re interrupting my time just for this invitation letter?" Ronan, who was already irritated by Duke Coley, was increasingly disgusted by his daughter’s disrespectful behavior. He asked annoyingly, "Where is Duke Coley? Why don’t you come back with your father?"

"I intended to wait for you so I could deliver this invitation letter, Your Majesty." Fiona was quite stubborn.

Ronan snatched the letter from Fiona’s hand roughly and it took Arielle by surprise. She didn’t expect the king to act that way, but the man then tore the paper in front of Fiona’s face which also left the woman speechless.

Arielle was really taken aback by the king’s attitude just now. Her hand reached out to ask Ronan to stop this attitude. She noticed that Fiona’s face slowly turned red with embarrassment along with her teary eyes. Arielle felt bad for the girl but she was more surprised by Ronan’s behavior.

"Your Majesty, what have you done?" asked Arielle in disbelief.

Ronan ignored Arielle’s question. He stretched out his hand and placed the torn pieces of paper on top of Fiona’s upturned hands.

"Think carefully about your attitude. This is the last time you could ever act disrespectful in front of me," he said with a voice as cold as ice.

Fiona, who was still speechless, just nodded weakly. She stepped back slowly, turned around, and ran fast from the manor’s grounds. Tears started to roll down her face.

Ahh... she was too confident. Her father had forced her to come home with him, but Fiona insisted on staying because she thought she could melt the king’s heart.

It was all a big mistake. How embarrassing!

Even after meeting her several times and praising her as a polite girl, it turned out that in the eyes of King Ronan, Fiona was nothing special.

The girl was mortified by what happened! She immediately left the king’s manor.

"Your Majesty," Arielle called to Ronan while she looked worriedly at the woman who had run away from them.

Ronan turned around for a moment and hugged Arielle wordlessly.

"I’m in a bad mood. Let me be like this for a moment," he said. He tightened his grip around her and let out a loud exhale.

"But that’s no reason to be rude to other people." Arielle’s advice just now only passed through Ronan’s ears. He acted like he didn’t hear her. The man still embraced Arielle and felt his annoyance slowly fade.

Arielle then returned the man’s hug by patting on Ronan’s back.

"Have you had some free time?" asked Arielle.

Ronan still had to look at the land that Duke Coley had forcefully taken and given to the westerners, the land some of the original population had been driven out from. Ronan wanted to expel the westerners from his domain.

"Your Majesty’s work is done, right?" asked Arielle again.

Ronan loosened his grip.

"What is it?" he asked.

Arielle shook her head, she wanted Ronan to answer the question first. "No-no, you have to answer my question first."

Hm... Ronan paused to think for a moment. The man remembered the night he took Arielle to enjoy the festival night. Back then, didn’t Arielle kiss him for the first time as a thank you? Would she do the same because he allowed her to enjoy the frostberry harvest today?

Ronan smirked behind his mask.

"I always have plenty of time for you," Ronan replied coyishly.

Her confidence seemed to have increased at his answer because Arielle looked left and right to check the backyard. She coughed politely.

"Then can you take off your mask?" she asked him politely.

The man’s grin grew wider. He would always have plenty of time for that. Ah... her lips would taste so sweet after his bad day.

Ronan cleared his throat once to shake off his overly enthusiastic expression. The king bit his tongue to keep himself from looking too excited.

The man untied his mask and lowered his head slightly so that Arielle could reach his face. He placed his hands behind his back, and then he closed his eyes in anticipation.

However, the kiss he was waiting for never came.
