Chapter 146: Burn Yourself Out

Leo ignored the agony and slamming his fist into the creature’s chest while letting out a defiant roar that was disastrous. An explosion erupted from the point of contact, a brilliant light that consumed everything in its path.

The devil let out one final, guttural scream while wildly slicing Leo’s body before being reduced to ash, the remnants scattering in the wind. He stood amidst the carnage trembling from the strain, blood dripping down his face as he collapsed to his knees.

His vision swam, and the world around him seemed to tilt. But his heart still pounded, his fight not yet over as the pain was overwhelming every sense. Astra and Veladra rushed to his side, eyes wide with shock and concern.

’’Leo...’’ the red-skinned woman whispered, her voice shaky as she knelt beside him.

Blood poured out of his body as the sound of the women’s voices faded just Astra took control, ’’Vel! Drag him back to the cave while I cover us. I have some mana left.’’

When Leo heard this, he reached out and grabbed the Demon Queen’s hand before sending a stream of mana into her body. This made her shiver all over as she protested, ’’Don’t do that idiot! You’re dying and can’t afford to waste energy.’’

Following that, explosions rang out as she kept the dungeon monsters away from Veladra with a fierce roar as her magic was killing countless enemies with ease, but she was burning through mana quickly.

’I won’t last much longer!’ she internally panicked but calmed down when a stream of pure mana flowed into her once again.

Astra spun around, her heart skipping a beat when her gaze met Leo’s faint, knowing smile. Worry flickered across her face, but she forced herself to push it aside. There was no time to hesitate.

The air filled with guttural snarls as a swarm of strange humanoid creatures hurtled toward Veladra. Without hesitation, the demoness raised her hand, summoning a towering wall of searing fire that cut the attackers off in an instant.

Astra surged forward, the ground beneath her trembling as she used the Hellfire Family’s secret spell. Crimson flames erupted around her, coiling like living serpents and infusing her with raw, blistering power.

Each step she took left scorched imprints on the ground as her magic burned brighter. Meanwhile, Veladra’s yellow eyes, piercing through the chaos, dragged an unconscious Leo toward the safety of their hiding place.

The battlefield roared with tension as a lion-like monster lunged at her from the shadows, its claws slicing through the air. Veladra quickly sidestepped the beast’s attack before unleashing a concentrated burst of fire from her palm.

Astra’s flames consumed the creature in an instant, leaving only ash in its wake. Seconds later, she fell back, her flames carving through the enemy swarm. Together, the two women retreated into the cave.

Veladra quickly created a dozen shields to protect them while they tended to Leo, who was bleeding out. The Demon Queen let out a breath but the red-skinned woman exclaimed, ’’We’re losing him Ast!’’

While this happened, Leo’s world faded to black as something pulled him somewhere; his mind clouded, and he found himself in his old house. He blinked, only to see the ceiling of his bedroom that he remembered all too well.

’’How did I get here?’’ he muttered before sitting up.

Leo’s head spun, the world around him blurring like a distorted dream. When his vision cleared, he realized he was in his room, the familiar surroundings grounding him for a moment.

’Did I die again?’ he mused.

Confusion knitted his brow as he stood, unsteady but determined to find out what was happening. Then, without warning, the world shifted. The room dissolved into shadows, replaced by a dense, foreboding forest shrouded in an eerie mist.

The air crackled that made his skin crawl. Before him stood a massive devil. Its crimson eyes burned like embers, its dark, hulking frame radiating malice as it let out a guttural growl that shook the ground beneath Leo’s feet.

’’My love,’’ a soft voice reached his ears as a pair of arms wrapped around his shoulders. ’’I tried to stop them, but there’s only so much I can do.’’

He knew it was the Dark Goddess causing him to reach up and touch her cheek. This made the beautiful smile as she rubbed against it as she continued, ’’Because a devil injured you. It infected you with its taint. Defeat it to wake up to Astra and Veladra because if you lose, it will take over your body.’’

Leo shivered as her words sank in, the weight of the challenge pressing on his chest. But before doubt could take hold, she leaned in and pressed a tender, love-filled kiss to his cheek.

Her voice was soft yet brimming with confidence as she whispered, "I know you can beat this monster, handsome. Show me how strong you’ve become."

A spark ignited in his eyes. He nodded firmly, his expression transforming into one of unshakable courage. ’’Okay,’’ he replied just as the devil let out a roar and charged forward, its footsteps shaking the ground like an earthquake.

Leo sprinted to meet the beast halfway, dodging a vicious kick with precision. The wind from the attack howled past him, but he didn’t falter. With a twist, he unleashed a devastating California Smash.

With explosive force, his fist connected, sending shockwaves through the air; the impact hurled the devil backward, crashing him through the trees like a meteor. Leo felt his power flowing through him.

’’That’s it! Show me what you can do!’’ the goddess exclaimed with a hazy expression which spurred him on.

Leo burst forward with such speed that a deafening sonic boom erupted, the force rattling the air and leaving the older woman stunned. Her eyes widened as she watched him fight the Devil General, her disbelief growing with every passing second.

The battlefield was a blur of motion as Leo darted around his massive opponent, his movements so rapid that they seemed to defy logic. Each time the devil swung its colossal arms or stomped with earth-shaking force, he was gone, reappearing at another angle.

With every strike, his punches landed like thunderclaps, each blow reverberating through the forest. The sheer power and precision he displayed were unlike anything she had ever seen. The Devil General roared in frustration.

The goddess watched as Leo pressed on, a whirlwind of speed and strength that left even the seasoned woman shaken to her core.’’He’s... unstoppable,’’ she murmured, her voice barely audible over the chaos.

’What have I created!’ the goddess thought as she watched him destroy the enemy that was much stronger them himself.

Her expression shifted as she felt the power emanating from him. His aura burned brighter, wild and unrestrained, like a storm threatening to break free. The surrounding air shimmered with chaotic mana.

’’He must have leveled up fighting the devils back in the dungeon,’’ she muttered.

Leo let out a battle cry, his fist glowing with a fiery intensity that rivaled the sun. She watched as he slammed it into the Devil General’s chest; the impact creating an ear bursting explosion that split the ground beneath them and sent shockwaves through the forest.

Earth cracked, and the once-mighty Devil was flung back like a rag doll, crashing into the distance with a thunderous boom. The goddess clutched her dress tightly as her dark eyes narrowing.

’’This power...’’ she murmured, her voice tinged with both admiration and concern.

She could feel the overwhelming force coursing through him, growing stronger with every moment. It was incredible, but it was also dangerous. ’’Leo...’’ she whispered, her voice laced with concern. ’’If this continues, you might burn yourself out, or worse, lose control.’’

The mature woman’s breath caught in her chest. She had seen many warriors, but none with this kind of ferocity. He was a force of nature, his power surging beyond anything she had seen before.

Leo let out a battle cry that echoed through the forest as he landed a final, devastating blow. The Devil General crumpled to the ground, defeated, its massive body collapsing like a falling mountain.

Without a second thought, she rushed toward him, her radiant form enveloping him in a wave of warmth. Without hesitation, she pressed her lips to his in a heartfelt kiss, a mix of triumph and relief in the embrace.

The goddess pulled away with a radiant smile. She cupped his face with both hands, her voice soft but swelling with joy. ’’You did it, Leo!’’ she exclaimed.

Moments later, she pampered him with love, brushing the dirt and sweat from his face, her touch soft yet filled with excitement. ’’You were incredible. I knew you had it in you, but this... this was beyond anything I imagined.’’

Leo was just about to reply, but something inside him started burning, causing a horrible pain to shoot through his body, forcing him to the ground as his muscles burned away and rebuilt themselves.
