Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 884: Decisive Point ()
Blood...it was everywhere. The courtyard was dyed red, and there were dozens of fallen shifters wherever one turned.
Neveah hadn’t hoped for this result. She’d done everything to avoid it. But here they were.
The moment the winter wolves arrived, the battle had escalated to carnage. The animosity withheld between the two domains had festered over centuries since the peace accord.
These shifters from the snowy deserts...they were merciless, swift and out for blood. The Eclipse wolves were almost immediately overpowered, but when backed against a wall with no routes of escape, they found renewed strength in fighting for their lives.
There had been no time for introductions or reunions. But Neveah knew Alpha King Nolan the moment he crossed her portal.
The eyes of the white furred wolf found hers first, and in that moment, she’d known, right before he darted into the frey, making a beeline straight for Alessio.
Alessio in turn had shifted, facing an opponent that was matched not in title alone, but surpassed him in skill and battle expertise.
Lucas Varleston and Dane Hunt held their grounds long enough. But victory or defeat would be determined by the fierce battle between the two Alpha Kings.
Or so she had thought. Until now, this moment when a slicing pain ripped down her side.
It was sharp and visceral, like claws had just raked down her side, tearing through flesh as easily as a knife cut through butter.
The pain radiated and pulsed around her left rib cage. And she felt a sudden dampness seep into her dress.
A gasp escaped Neveah, and she glanced down, watching with wide eyes as her dress slowly darkened in color.
She could feel the blood trailing down her hip, and she stared at the pool forming around her feet in disbelief.
She was hurt...but how? Scott had mounted guard a few paces away from her and no one had gotten past his guard.
The Eclipse wolves were too busy holding their ground to focus on capturing her as Alessio ordered.
So how...
Neveah’s thoughts trailed off when she caught a glimpse of Alessio’s wolf. He rose to his limbs from a crash, limping to right his balance as he faced King Nolan’s unrelenting onslaught.
He held his ground commendably. But the disparity between both shifters was clear. King Nolan had the upper hand.
But it wasn’t the battle that caught her attention, it was the rapidly bleeding wound down the length of his side, in the shape of a claw.
Neveah’s eyes darted between her injury and then Alessio’s. The similarity of the location was daunting.
Horror dawned almost instantly, as her mind recalled the fleeting glimpse she’d caught of a burn mark around Alessio’s neck, hidden by his collar.
But Alessio had been in the ritual grounds all along, he couldn’t have gotten hurt there...
She’d been the one who was burned. In that exact location, by Lothaire and the silver chains he choked her with.
Yet the evidence of that injury left a mark on Alessio, and now...
Another slicing pain lanced across her midriff. It came so suddenly, she couldn’t brace herself,
This time, Neveah cried out.
Scott whirled around immediately, his eyes scanning for the danger, only to find none.
His gaze dropped to Neveah’s hand clutching her bleeding side, and his eyes widened.
His mouth moved to form words but the chaos all around them swallowed them up.
Neveah could barely hear him. All she could do was gesture with a hand to the massive snow white wolf tackling Alessio’s wolf, stomping on his midriff and Scott’s gaze turned alarmed.
He said something again. But Neveah didn’t pick up his words, her eyes were fixated on Alessio in a bid to make sense of what was happening to her.
Scott must have alerted King Nolan because while Neveah still watched, he retreated from Alessio, his eyes narrowed and canines bared.
The shifters from both ends had begun to notice what was happening. A few like Dane and Lucas retreated to Neveah’s side, their gazes furrowed in concern.
Alessio’s eyes finally met hers. Smug...unfazed. Something in that gaze told her everything she needed to know.
He’d said he would never let go of her. Whatever he’d done, he’d made sure of that.
Karan was after all at his disposal and had been suspiciously absent this long.
Alessio had made sure he and Neveah were now inextricably connected, in life... and in death.
No one else would be able to hurt him. They wouldn’t risk it for fear of harming her.
Neveah acknowledged Alessio’s wit. He was a terrifyingly clever man.
But as long as Alessio lived, this war would never come to an end. Even if the winter wolves withdrew and Neveah left with them now, Alessio would always be in the shadows.
Always hunting her... she would never be free of him.
Such a life...was it even worth living?
"Tell Alpha Nolan to leave him be. No one is to stop him...this can only end between us." Neveah said as she called Scott’s attention.
Scott looked horrified at the prospect, but he didn’t protest.
Neveah righted herself, exhaling a sharp breath, she turned, her dress swishing around her ankles as she made for the palace entrance.
She dashed into the hallways, heading straight for the stairwell as fast as her legs could go.
She didn’t slow. She didn’t need to. She knew Alessio would give chase.
"Neveah!" Alessio roared, his foot falls heavier than usual due to the wounds he’d suffered.
The wounds he’d made sure she felt.
"Get back here! Don’t drag this any further!" His tone was an animalistic snarl.
The wound at her side pulsed painfully, like someone dug a finger into it.
Alessio...
She gritted her teeth against the pain, but she didn’t let it hinder her.
The highest point of the Eclipse Palace was an open rooftop garden and when Neveah emerged out of it, the battle below had reached a decisive point.
King Nolan and his winter wolves mercilessly ripped through the Eclipse wolves and their numbers dropped steadily.
Not long after, she sensed him.
She turned, their gazes met instantly.
Alessio exhaled a breath of frustration, running a hand through his hair. "You didn’t have to make things this messy."
"Today was our bonding ceremony! And look what you did!"
Neveah’s lips pursed at his accusation. "I would rather die than be bonded to you, Alessio."
"But you already knew that, didn’t you? Isn’t that why you went this far?"
